charlie78 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Need an assist sorting out a problem with the Mission 7 navigation challenge in the Campaign module. While trying to climb to the 20,000 foot gate, the P-51 supercharger auto function is completely inoperable. Attempts to select either the low or high blower settings manually are also inoperable, and are generally accompanied by engine audio that sounds as if total engine destruction is imminent. Either way, auto or manual, if I persist in trying to reach the 20,000 foot gate, the typical response from my computer is eventually a total shut down, accompanied by a white screen, and a very loud buzzing. Nothing will kill the buzzing (e.g. a ctrl/alt/del exit from the program) short of having to unplug the computer. I have with total success however, been able to select the solo takeoff mode in the Training module and reach altitudes in excess of 30K, with supercharger high blower operation engaging at 17,600 feet and the high blower mode status light on. Looking forward to a cure. Thanks, Charlie Charlie
tintifaxl Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 This has always been a nasty mission. What helped me in version 1.2.4 was keeping the speed up >200mph, manifold @46 and manually engage supercharger high blower @13k feet. But all of this could be obsolete in 1.2.6, of course. Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.
charlie78 Posted January 22, 2014 Author Posted January 22, 2014 Yes I agree and have tried that. The main issue of course is the lack of a normally operating supercharger. I've even gone to the extent of circling in a very shallow climb. No good. Lack of boost eventually results in a full blown stall with the gate at least 2,500 feet above me. Charlie
StitchJones Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 The crosswind take off mission reports the wind from the wrong direction. The briefing reports winds from 017 deg (almost North). The plane is lined up on runway 10(almost East). That means the wind winds should be from the left. The winds are actually blowing from the right I am guessing from 197deg. The error contributed to me crashing several time because I kept putting in the wrong wind correction. I makes a tough mission even tougher. Please investigate.
lycos Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Mission 7 - How to climb up to and past 20,000 feet This is in another topic as well, but I missed it when I fell into this problem myself - the bit we missed to climb high was changing the fuel mixture from FULL RICH to RUN. I felt like such a noob when I realised this. (Page 81 of the manual if that helps you any more.)
POLARIS1 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 My tip for the navigation mission is make gradual calculated climbs. I never once used the wap during the mission and watched 3 parameters the whole time: 1. Air speed - the steeper you climb the more energy you loose until you eventually stall. 2. Temperature - as you get slower the engine gets less air and thus oil temperature rises...open the oil radiator door until cool enough and then move the switch back to auto. 3. Rate of climb/ vertical speed - the distance between gates is far enough to make slow calculated climbs. One more tip that helps me...can you fly level without watching your dials? Eg how should the horizon look and be placed on your HUD/ canopy when you fly level. When you get enough practice you can also know by eye just from looking ahead how much you're pitching your aircraft (that goes for any aircraft). And...patience...it's a long mission with not much happening but if you're too hasty you shall pay.
