  1. Hi there, I've been keeping an eye on these forums since the beta and haven't said much/ if anything on here so i thought id introduce myself now by showing you people a tribute I made for this wonderful sim :) Enjoy.

  5. The WH is a great HOTAS, more precise than a NXT modded cougar with less play on the stick. The all metal stick construction and industrial buttons are awesome. The throttle isn't as well constructed but the switches and buttons are still military grade (probably). They feel like they've been ripped from the A-10. My brother got the x-65F and I've had a play with it. Not a bad stick at all. The rotaries and FS would be the main selling points particularly if your main sim is BMS. It's got enough buttons however it's lightweight compared to the WH. You have to stick the throttle down with something else and probably the stick as well if you get too forceful. After a while you forget that the stick doesn't move as the force sensing can be calibrated and switched on the fly. It responds exactly how you expect it to. Need to AAR? just down the sensitivity. My bro cheats a little bit in BMS by upping his sensitivity when flying CAT III with a full load while I'm still left feeling like an..... A-10! SST software is junk for advanced programming and Saitek support leaves a bad after taste, when they're actually there to serve you. Last note on the X-65, you'll have to reg hack to get your ministick to work as a proper slewing tool for your FCR functions. It's a mouse by default and because of the rotaries and dual throttle there is a Windows limitation on how many axis you can have. You'll have to sacrifice one axis to enable the ministick to function as one. Again, not a problem if your main sim is BMS where it's a single engine aircraft. The left throttle axis is disabled on my bro's X-65. Also note that the X-65 is not as popular as the WH so finding a good script profile for BMS will be difficult. I've looked and have yet to find one. The best advice was to map the buttons yourself from a clean key file. Meanwhile I've tried 3 WH scripts up to date until deciding on the last one is the one I'd keep. Never had experience with a FSSB cougar but I imagine that that would be ideal for BMS - you get the full F-16 replica then down to the force sensing stick. All you need to do is give the stick a little play (as in the real Viper) and you'd have it exactly as the real thing. Personal preference? given that I've only had experience with the X-65 and WH, I'd still get the WH. The all metal construction, the weight, the precision, the military grade buttons/switchs, better programming and just general badassness of it. It would be nice to have rotaries for radar but that'd be mainly for BMS and i play other sims with the WH as well. End of essay :)

  6. After playing around with overclocking my I7 920, I'm posting the results. My specs: Coolermaster CM 690 case with 1 frontal and 2 lateral 120 mm fans. Corsair HX620 psu Corsair H60 cooler Asus P6T Deluxe board Intel I7 920 C0/C1 cpu GSKILL Ripjaws F3-12800CL9T-12GBRL 12GB DDR3 1600MHZ (9-9-9-24) memory (12 Gb is overkill but sometimes I need memory for huge data quantities or databases) As I can't boot in Ubuntu/Debian (my main and work OS) overclocking with Intel Turbo Mode (20 to 21 multiplier), I disabled this feature when overclocking. Not sure about the reason, but probably something about the linux kernel. I'm using XMP memory profile. Hyperthreading and Intel Turbo mode disabled. Tests on Windowze: 1) Internal Base Clock (BCLK) 200 MHz, all other options AUTO, Intel Turbo mode ENABLED, hypertheading disabled (4 threads). Results: 21 x 200 MHz : 4200 MHz, Core voltage 1,432v, maximum temperature 78ºC after 15min on Prime95. 2) Conservative aproach. Core voltage 1,3v (Manual), Internal Base Clock (BCLK) 190 MHz, all other options AUTO, Intel Turbo mode disabled, hypertheading disabled (4 threads). Results: 20 x 190 MHz : 3800 MHz, maximum temperature 67ºC after 1 hour on Prime95. The bottleneck is my graphics card: Asus 9800GT 512MB. I'll substitute the card to a Nvidia 570 (ATI has bad support to Linux drivers), in three months, when my budget permit that. I noted FPS improvement and reduce of stuttering in DCS A-10C with Shadows medium, Water low, MSSA 2x, TSSA on, VSync on, Grass/clutter 300m, Trees 6000m, Cockpit Shadows on; all others options High. Variation in FPS in Weapons Training mission: 14 - 30 fps ( to 40 - 50 in open sky). Turning Cockpit Shadows off, 15 - 34 fps, but more fluid.

  11. Anyway, as far as I can tell, there aren't any major bugs with the beta 5 version. So I could hold on to it for a while longer until I get some decent guides completed, but I might as well upload it in case anyone wants an early look. Additionally, I am uploading a work in progress target recognition mission. Though it's mostly done, I am not quite done completely with it, but if you want to verify that slmod is working on your computer, just load up the target recognition mission, fly to the range, shoot some friendlies, and make sure that Arnie yells at you (hint, shoot three friendlies and Arnie gets really mad :)) Anyway.. NON-Servman, manual installation: Manual installation: 1) Download these three files: MissionScripting.lua slmodbeta5.lua server.lua 2) In C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\Scripts, rename "MissionScripting.lua" to "MissionScripting_original.lua". Next, drop the "MissionScripting.lua" file you downloaded here into that same directory. 3) Unless, you already have a server_original.lua, rename "server.lua" to "server_original.lua" in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\Scripts\net (NOT C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\Scripts!!!!). Next, drop "slmodbeta5.lua" and the new "server.lua" that you just downloaded into that same directory, C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\Scripts\net. Anyway, no Servman version or Modman packs yet- I'll get to those as I get to the manual. However, if you really, really want to install it on Servman, just install the MissionScripting.lua and slmodbeta5.lua files as instructed for the non-servman version, install the servman_server.lua file from slmodbeta4, and then change the very first line of servman_server.lua from dofile('./Scripts/net/slmodbeta4.lua') to dofile('./Scripts/net/slmodbeta5.lua'). That SHOULD do the trick... I haven't had to make any other changes to server.lua IIRC. But just make sure your server.lua file in Scripts\net is the original, unmodified server.lua file or you will get an error! Anyway... if anything that was made with for an old slmod version stops working with this version, let me know, as that would definitely be a bug. 12. Yeah I put it off for a long time too - very disappointed they released the game with an incomplete key map. Choosing keys for damn near everything took as long as the script. Also it looks like clod only supports Ctrl Alt and not left or right Ctrl Alt so there is less combinations available. PS I just updated the CloD script and keymap ini to fix some minor things

  13. Vault, it is not the fan that is the target of maintenance, it is anything and everything in the computer. Learn to live withthe fact that other people have different priorities. ;) Also, you fail to be consistent. Every die is different, yes, but he has given data while you have given none at all. Intel has the statistical data on this, you do not. And for the record, every single review i have seen has shown the same result as in Pilots graph. And finally, the thing that has the most impact of everything is stepping, which you conveniently ignored throughout this. The die to die differences are minor imperferctions having a microscopic difference, Steppings are entirely different masks, sometimes even architecture changes and/or process updates. That is why we talked about D0 step 920s earlier, they are much better overclockers than other 920's. Go ask on your overclocking forum about that. :)
