Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
ThePlainsman replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I'm glad the F/A 18 won the poll. I'd like to have it (with full flight deck ops) next, followed by the Apache Longbow. That would be heavenly. -
This one is even better Try this one...it's better still:

Changed My Mind about Battlefield BC2 and COD Modern Warfare 2
ThePlainsman replied to ThePlainsman's topic in Chit-Chat
I'm actually enjoying the single-player of MW2 just as much as BFBC2. The graphics are definitely better. I'm running both at 19 x 12 and 8 x anistropic. BFBC2 looks great; but MW2 looks amazing. I'm geting frames way over 100 on BFBC2, not quite as high with MW2. But I can't stand MW2 multi; it plays like a console game. I don't like ARMA. The single-player game sucks. I don't like the multi-player either. I don't like taking "orders" from some person I don't even know and be told what to do and when to do it, competing for a place on some platoon totem pole, or being confined to a particular "role." Screw that. I have both ARMA 1 and ARMA2. I don't play either of them. I actually find Op Flash: Dragon Rising more enjoyable than the ARMA games. Again, I'm talking single-player mode. MP in OFDR also sucks. A bunch of tin-horn dictators who think they are real platoon leaders telling you to "go here" and "watch the woods over there," and "don't leave your post!" Screw that. -
I dismissed both games as "arcade" and, therefore, not worthy of my money and time. I was wrong. Yes, both games are arcade action, but no more than R6 Vegas 1 and 2. Yet, somehow, both are fun, at least in single-player. Understand, I'm a Tom Clancy, slower, TACTICAL, classic Rainbow Six/Rogue Spear/Ghost Recon type gamer. The run 'n gun stuff usually bores me to tears because there tends to be very little thinking and an overdose of heavily scripted action. I hate scripted. I don't like not having squad control, setting waypoints, etc. I actually enjoy PLANNING. And MP was always so much better in a Clancy/Red Storm tactical shooter than run 'n gun MP. Those shooters are the best because of excellence in both single player AND multi-player, instead just one or the other being good. I"m not a big MP gamer unless it's a classic Clancy shooter. Anyway, I've actually found the single player MW2 and BFBC2 to be kinda fun. It took me a long time to acquire these games because I was initially suspicious given their run 'n gun reputations. I play each one in about half-hour sessions, every other day. They seem to be very long (for me) and some of the amazing stuff that happens in each one (tanks, helicopters, buildings crumbling, stuff blowing up, etc.) adds to the overall atmosphere. Multi-player is another story. MW2 is straight arcade action in MP and boring as hell. BFBC2 is better in MP, not quite as run 'n gun. I'll stick with the single player for as long as it lasts with both games.

Not for a 920. A 920 stock runs at 2.66GHz. For a 975 it would be. Besides, I have no idea how to overclock. The manufacturer did it at my request. The overclocking is covered by the warranty because the manufacturer did it. I think my system is only a bit above average. There are much faster gaming rigs out there. But this was all I could afford.:(

I keep hearing people talk about sticks breaking. I've been PC simming since the 80s and have never broken a joy/flight stick. I don't understand.

Do I still need to leave the original LOMAC on my HD?
ThePlainsman replied to ThePlainsman's topic in Bugs and Problems
Thanks! -
Can't you turn up the resolution? I have no idea if my AA is even on (I haven't turned it on, so it must be off) but I hardly notice any jaggies. Run at 1900 x 1200 and jaggies should go away or be so small you don't notice.

I bought my PC 3 months ago. I'm running FC2 at 1920 x 1280 with sliders on High for textures, scenes and everything else. I'm getting fps way over 100 with clouds everywhere. I"ll admit it surprised me. I don't have a state of the art machine. It's probably above average: i7 920 quad core @ 3.7MHz, Noctua super air cooler for i7 chips, 6 gigs of 1600MHz RAM, 750watt PSU, GTX 285, 1.5TB HD(Extreme Speed), Win 7, 64 Bit. So, a system like this might work for you. No need to go overboard. No need for water cooling, thousand watt PSUs and all that. It's a waste of money.

How Many Dual Core Users ??
ThePlainsman replied to MonnieRock's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I have both a P4 @ 3.4 with a 8800 GTS card (640MB) and 2 GIG of 800MHz RAM and Win XP3, and a i7 920 @ 3.7 with a GTX 285 (1 GB) and 6 GIG of 1600MHz RAM and Win 7, 64 Bit. The DCS sims run on both of 'em. -
All I have is Lock-On 1.02. FC2 installed and runs without a hitch. I just have to get the programming straight for X45.

My ground doesn't look like that. It's very crisp and detailed.

Yup, that's where it is

I'm getting frames well over 100 with clouds everywhere. That's at 1920 x 1200 x 32. The frame rate is spectacular. I'm very pleased.

Okay, I downloaded the three files. One is a 1.29 mb setup file. The other two much much bigger. Both are something called "Bin" files. WTF is a Bin file? Calmly....1. Which file do I click on to install first? 2. Why does my PC not recognize a BIN file? How do I fix this? 3. Why was asked to "insert Disk 1?" What kind of question is that? LOMAC only had one disk. Please help. How do I install this puppy? My specs: Lock-On 1.02 (installed). I have Flaming Cliffs 1.0 but not installed. I don't like the Starforce.
