  1. Can someone post this file without the compression? I'd love to have a fix as I have the same problem with disconnecting from busy servers but I don't have the program that unpacks this file.
  2. I have both but am into the F-5 more for some reason. I'm guessing it's because I'm still pretty new to DCS and the F-5 is an understandable plane to fly, if still quite complex compared to the virtual flying I am used to (War Thunder, Strike Fighters 2, Il-2 Sturmovik w/ simple engine management). I do wish the F-5 had capacity for more A to A missles and a CCIP would be nice. Something about the F-5 though - it just makes me want to fly it even though it may not be as capable in some ways when compared to the Mirage 2000C.
  3. It's too bad as it mars an otherwise great model and experience. I bought the Mig 15 a week ago and marveled at the model and cockpit, but then turned around and saw that flickering. I reinstalled different version of the Nvidia driver in a vain attempt to try and fix it. I still really like the plane but if this bug has been around for a long time and hasn't been addressed... Well, that would be a consideration in buying another module from these guys unless I was truly head over heels for the particular plane being modeled. Has the flickering stuff behind the canopy ever been acknowledged by the developers? Have they said it's on their to-do list to fix it?
  4. Ok, thanks Art. I fired up the F-5 to make sure and yeah, it's just the Mig 15 that's flickering. Too bad they don't fix that as it is such a nice plane visually!
  5. That is good to know, Zhukov. I think I was under the impression that some of the planes in Flaming Cliffs had simplified flight models but they've probably been redone by now. I'll have to give the FC planes some time then, should be fun. Have to admit I'd rather have the option to flick the switches and click the buttons though! Maybe someday they will redo those aircraft in the clickable cockpit standard.
  6. Hi everyone, This seems to happen in multiple aircraft and definitely in the Mig-15. In outside view, the top of the fuselage behind the cockpit looks normal but while in F1 view when I turn my head and look backwards it is flickering. It looks like possibly the 3D geometry of the fuselage behind the pilot's head is having issues being displayed - it creates the effects of flashing flat shadows that back there. Everything else in the sim looks great. I'm running a fast PC but with the stock video card that came with it which is a Geforce 960. I tried updating to the newest drivers but that did not help (the in cockpit shadows looked worse though). I've tried no shadows but that did not help. It doesn't appear to be a shadow issue going on back there, but who knows? The 960 drivers I am using are 391.24 and were released back in late March. Thanks for any help! Chris
  7. I get the sentiment and reasoning of the OP, believe me I do, but ultimately I feel it's not a good idea. I bought the original Lock On and then also Flaming Cliffs 2 and 3. I barely touched them due to firing them up and then getting overwhelmed with the complexity compared to what I was used to. I seriously had both of these games for 14 years and never really touched them. I just knew that I loved military aircraft and would eventually get around to learning them. I bought the F-5 a few years ago and same thing. Opened up DCS and got immediately felt overwhelmed by it and then shelved it. I have cognitive issues from multiple sclerosis so that doesn't help either. I flew a bunch of War Thunder sim mode the last few years but then decided about two weeks ago that I wanted to see what the best simulation available had to offer, so I made some time to finally bear down and wrap my brain around the F-5. I'm amazed, absolutely stunned at what I've been missing. I've bought the Mig-21, 15 and M2000C + NTTR during the sale. It's a whole new world of simming enjoyment and I wish I had not of waited so long. I find I could get the new aircraft I bought up and running enough (in sim mode, not game) to take-off and then shoot down a transport plane inside of a half-hour of purchase. That's due to me bearing down and learning the basics of the F-5, I'm sure, as the basics translate across different airframes for the most part. Now I am working on radio use and navigation. I'm having a blast. It's probably really good for my MS because any type of a cognitive challenge will stimulate new connections within the brain and thereby hopefully aid in healing a bit. That's my excuse for flying a bunch of DCS but there's likely some truth to it. Now I look at the FC3 aircraft I have and never flew and am just not as excited to try them out, knowing they aren't full fidelity like the new modules I have. I love the fact that I can study the planes and continually get better with them as a result. It feels like I've got endless replay value due to the complexity, there's always more to learn. I take notes, I study the flight manuals and I practice. It's extremely fun and rewarding. But I do understand the OP's point of view. I guess I've just jumped over to the other side and am love with deep simulation now. Chris
  8. Awesome guys, very helpful. Thanks!
  9. Hi there, I'm using a Saitek x52 yoke and Logitech Wingman Extreme for my flight stick. As I dig into this sim for the first time and try to learn it, I'm wondering what others deem critical as far as HOTAS controls. I do have Track IR. So far I have elevator trim, vertical radar scan slew up/down, radar acquire target, weapon release, and guns. I'd love to be able to map the site mode to a wheel on the Saitek throttle but I am not sure that's even possible. Same with radar scan range. Most of my Logitech joystick buttons have no mapping. What else would you all suggest I have mapped? Maybe air brakes and clipboard? I'm just not sure what's critical enough to have mapped on my HOTAS as I have little experience flying this demanding (and fantastic) sim. Thanks, Chris
  10. Ok, I will try that. I use a 42" LCD for a monitor so hopefully that will help me track targets.
  11. Thanks Falcon. That seemed to work as my usually butter-smooth framerate took a noticeable hit now with DSR enabled and running 4k resolution in game. It did not make the gauges any clearer so I guess I will just have to zoom in for now.
  12. Hi there, I'm not sure how to go about getting Nvidia DSR to work. This is on a 1080p monitor. My goal is to get the gauges to display a little more clearly if possible. I set DSR Factors to 4.00x (native resolution) which in turn automatically switched DSR - Smoothness to 33%. This is all I've done so far. Do I need to switch the in game resolution to that of a 4k monitor? I think I tried that but then only the top left portion of the game menu was being displayed. Also, I've got a fast rig with a so-so video card, a GTX 960, so when I get this to work maybe I should be setting DSR Factors to 2.00x? Thanks for your time, Chris
  13. Turing off FFB did the trick. Thanks Yurgon!
  14. Hi there, I'm new to the F-5E and trying to set up my controls. I am using a x52 yoke + Logitech Wingman for the stick. I want to get away from using keyboard commands for basic and often used things, so I assigned my view hat on the Logitech stick to control elevator trim but it does nothing in flight. Thanks for any ideas! Chris
  15. Ah, that could really help so thank you. Escorting B29s in an F86 sounds like a good time.
  16. Ok, thanks for the info. So it sounds like the main thing you would do in with this module is fight Mig-15s and just enjoy the flight simulation aspects of learning to fly it? I'm sure you could fly it online vs. all sorts of enemies but fighting non-historical engagements doesn't appeal to me much. Chris
  17. Hi there, I am interested in this module but I am wondering if it is just the model but not much else. Are there decent missions for it? Are there assets from the time period in game such as B29s and other aircraft? I know there is most likely not a Korea map. Thanks for any info, Chris
  18. I am curious about this module, especially with the sale, but are the missions consistent with the combat environment the F-86 flew and fought in? Or do you have to fly against the more modern units already in game. Thanks for any info, Chris
  19. Thanks, but I am not looking to fly training missions - I can't fly the plane at all in 1.5, just 2.0. The plane doesn't seem to exist in my 1.5 install.
  20. Hi there, I have the Mirage 2000 working in 2.0 but in 1.5 it is not listed (quick missions). I have run the dcs_updater.exe but it just launches the program. Within 1.5 it says my version is 1.5.2.48162. Thanks for any help! Chris
  21. Yeah, I actually started as a kid with a flight simulator on the Apple IIc. I think it might have been the first iteration of Microsoft's Flight Simulator? Also there was something, called "Jet" I think, that I played on my father's work computer at HP - simple wire-frame models etc.. Then onto the early Falcon on Mac and some Harrier sim that was also wire-frame I think. You get the picture! I have been eyeing DCS for awhile now but I knew the complexity would take some time to really learn and I wanted to more jump in and fight. As Strike Fighters 2 ages, and with nothing else out there with much an aspect of realism, DCS is becoming the only real option if I want combat. So now I am taking the time and am surprised by how rewarding I find it. I just have to break it down and really learn it, system by system. A-10A cannon, bombs and general flight control are enough for a start! Fun stuff, keep it up DCS devs!
  22. Oh, I already got the bug - I can feel it. I am focusing on the A-10A alone right now, really learning all the systems and weapons. Just running practice missions against vehicles alone is enough challenge for now. Those BTR-80s with their 14.5 mm MGs are my nemesis, I can't even wrap my brain around going against true AAA and SAMs yet but I will get there. I do want to learn proper flying as well, taxiing, the HUD waypoint and landing modes etc.. All the gauges and warnings, the whole deal. Believe it or not, the simplified systems on the FC 3 aircraft are actually quite complex to a newcomer. They are manageable though.
  23. Thanks. I went with buying the Mirage 2000 and Nevada. Along with FC 3 I should be set for awhile :). I usually fly more casual sims like Strike Fighters 2 and War Thunder on "simulator" mode, so this level of realism will take a bit for me to adjust to. I love it already though!
  24. Nevermind, I think I figured it out. Getting DCS 2.0 at the moment.
