  1. Hi all, Quick question. I bought a new computer and am setting up the controls for the F-16 again. I remember being able to dispense one chaff and one flare with a single "release" button press if I set the selector knob to "bypass". It doesn't seem to work now (unless maybe I am pressing the wrong button to release, or something like that). Hitting release while on the bypass setting will dispense a ton of chaff and flares continuously. Did something change? Is it still possible to do single releases without programming via the LIST button? Thanks! Chris
  2. Thanks Northstar. I will try your suggestions. I've also started loading missions into the mission editor that seem to work well with the AI and look at how they are set up.
  3. Thanks Bpremus. I am actually getting it to work OK with my older specs and no frills graphics, but sometimes the planes start ghosting (immersion killer). I think I will play around with the Mig-15 and Mig-29 since I have both. I may have to load NTTR again too. Thanks again.
  4. Does time of day (in the game world) affect others' FPS as well? I can make a mission and have it run smoothly at 90 FPS, then change the mission start time from noon to 8:40 AM and then the mission mostly runs at 45 FPS. Is that because of the sunrise colors/effects? Is there a setting I can flip somewhere to help with this? I can make all my missions for 12 o'clock noon if I have to, but I'd rather be able to mix it up without ghosting and FPS decreases.
  5. Hi there. I have made a small mission where I and an AI wingman, flying F-16s with 120s and 9Xs, scramble to intercept 4 Mig-21s about 60 miles to the north. I made this mission in order to learn the wingman commands, but it seems like the wingman will only rarely engage and fire on the incoming Mig-21s? I have tried locking a target at 15-28 miles out and then hitting "Attack my target". I also tried "Cover me" and "Attack bandits". I'm not sure how this works because most of the time the wingman doesn't really do anything but provide himself as bait. Every once in awhile I will see him shoot something down though, so it is confusing. I think I am using the "easy communications" option. Does anyone have any tips on how to get wingmen to fight reliably? I have my wingman set to "veteran" skill level, if that makes a difference. Is there something in the mission file that I need to set? Like a waypoint option or something? Thanks, Chris
  6. Hey everyone, So after fiddling with settings and overclocking I have gotten my CV1 to run DCS decently on some pretty outdated hardware (6700k, 1070ti, 24 GB RAM on an older SSD). The graphics are set almost as low as possible with 1.2 super sampling in OTT. It’s not pretty, but it works well enough to have some fun. 45 or 90 FPS depending on the usual factors. Not much blurring or ghosting, but there is a little bit and especially online. Anyways, I’m sure I’ll upgrade soon enough, but until then: has anyone gone through the different modules and maps and done a general survey as to which ones run best currently? I’d love to buy a new map as I only have NTTR, but I am afraid they won’t run well. Do the Flaming Cliffs planes run the game better because they might be simpler and therefore less resource intensive? Thanks for your time/thoughts on this, Chris
  7. The MiG-19 was half off, so your math is wrong. And you are presuming it is about affordability when it is not. I’m struggling for a polite way to put it that doesn’t sound like I am bragging, but I will just say that money is not the issue here. It is an issue of customer expectations. I went to go buy it and the price had doubled unexpectedly. So they didn’t honor what they said they would do with their sale and in return now I will not buy the product. I am having a blast relearning the MiG-21 though. DCS is an amazing game, but they really should honor the sale dates they publish.
  8. Oh, that’s too bad! I was going to buy the MiG-19 but was under the impression that I had until the 19th to get the sale price. That’s weird that the sale ended early. I guess I will wait and see if I still want it at Christmas time.
  9. I was hesitant to buy it due to reports of the flight model not being what people expected, incomplete systems, etc.. I impulsively bought it on a whim yesterday and am glad I did now that I’ve spent some time in it. I think it’s a blast to fly. It’s certainly got enough weapons to play around with for now, and the flight model is just fine IMHO. I just really like it. YMMV but I’d say give it shot at $40. You’ll probably like it too, and also be supporting it’s development.
  10. I love the Sabre but the lack of content around that time period in DCS holds me back from getting it. It looks really fun though. I'm kind of afraid I will have the same feeling about the F-16 due to it being incomplete. It's only $40 though. I just spent $30 at the grocery store on two bags of pistachio nuts. I'm sure I could get $40 of fun out of the F-16 over the long term. More fun than those pistachio nuts! (I almost returned them, didn't realize the price.) The Huey looks great too. Glad to hear it is fun. A lot of people seem to love it. Makes me want to try it.
  11. I have the F-5, Harrier, Mig-21, M2000, Mig-15 and FC3. I can't seem to stay away from the F-5 though. There's something about it that makes it the most fun to fly that's hard to categorize, but I think it's the fact that it is a "capable underdog" combined with the fact that it is less complicated in general. You can absolutely fight Su-27s and Mig-29s in it but it's quite challenging. The AIM-9Ps aren't bad missiles... But you only get two and you have to line up the shots right. Ground attacks without the modern HUD and systems that go along with it are satisfying when you get it right. It does not have long legs so you must manage fuel consumption well. It has a hard time in dogfights as it bleeds energy easily that is hard to get back - yet it is maneuverable and pretty fast. That said, it always leaves me wanting more thrust. Which makes me pine for the F-16. I'll always love the F-5E for what it is though. I want the Mig-19 too. Even though it's an old second generation fighter... I just can't believe someone modeled it in high-fidelity. And it's the P model, no less. That's just so awesome and odd. I want to support it and fly it! I could get by easily with what I have though. The F-5, Harrier, Mig-21... They all are a joy to fly. One more would be nice though! I think the F-16 is going to have to be my next choice. I really want to have a modern fighter with datalink. I think ED has hired another team member for it, so that should help get it going more. Have fun and good luck with your choice!
  12. I think I’d better save up for faster hardware as my performance in VR is degraded from what it was a year ago. Still might buy the F-16 as I love that plane. But I’d have to fly it offline in small missions If I want the VR experience to be any good.
  13. Hi there, I've just redownloaded DCS after not flying it for about a year. My performance in VR is not good like it used to be, but 80% of it is fixed by turning off the shadows. What's also new is that enemy planes are shifting positions randomly in the sky. It's pretty drastic too. This not stuttering or ghosting, although they do that too now, they literally blink a few hundred feet to a new position. Makes gunnery tricky :P Anyone else have this problem? If so, is there a solution? Thanks, Chris P.S. I will try running a repair just in case it was something I changed while trying to get it to run better in VR.
  14. That's an idea! I used to LOVE Jane's Longbow back in the day. Huey would be fun. Turning off all shadows helped a lot too. Almost back to where I was performance-wise. Decisions, decisions! edit: I am having planes warp position a few hundred feet in the sky randomly. This is in single-player. Going to hold off on any new purchases for now as DCS has just gotten too buggy. The new performance problems + warping planes is a bit much.
  15. Awesome man! I will try that. Maybe it will make it so I can justify getting a new bird. Thank you!
  16. Hi all, I recently downloaded the sim again but the performance in VR is not what it used to be on my rig. I still want to support ED (and have some fun during quarantine!) and buy a new plane to play around with. Since my FPS has been cut almost in half, I really need one that plays nice with VR on a modestly specced machine. I am wondering if the Mig-19, F-16 or F-14 might fit the bill? I already have the Mig-21, Mig-15, F-5E, AV-8, M2000 and FC3. Sadly, the F-5 is my favorite ride but doesn't seem to work well with VR. I get a lot of ghosting of planes that I'd never seen before in DCS (seen plenty in the 'other' sim). Thanks for any insight! Chris
  17. Yeah, that occurred to me as well but I guess I was checking in a roundabout way if there some bugs introduced with bombing like there have been elsewhere recently with the Mirage. Like the bug with nose wheel steering. I hadn't flown the plane in awhile but I remembered bombing being quite easy and was confused when it wasn't. Anyways, thanks for the help.
  18. I see. So no rocket+bombs loadouts then. Thanks for the help! I will try it with the snake-eyes.
  19. Hello, I've read Chuck's guide and watched the one-minute Youtube tutorial but I can't figure out how to get the Mirage even into CCIP mode. Flip the master arm switch, click the BL1 button, set the radar to EM and then switch on the (radar?) altimeter beneath the gun sight. The sight doesn't change and I cannot drop bombs. I've tried setting the bomb's fuze, amount and spacing as well but nothing helps. What am I missing? I can shoot the guns, rockets and Magic 2s just fine. Thanks, Chris
  20. I agree! Please make it a priority as this ugly model problem has been here too long. It’s such a great aircraft, it deserves to have a bug free model! Thank you.
  21. Nevada map crashes me to desktop after update but Caucasus runs fine.
  22. I am fairly new as well and was overwhelmed too. Using Lwin + Home keys to start the plane was a big help. Then I just studied the different systems one by one. I started with the F-5E first as it was a simpler plane than the Mirage and Harrier that I bought. Break it down into bite-sized pieces is the best way. First I just wanted to take off successfully. Then I wanted to employ guns and shoot something down, so I made a mission where I hunt a transport plane (with labels on). Then it was radar... Then bombing... Then turning off labels... Then radio... Navigation, etc.. Making my own missions in the mission editor is very useful now as I practice using the RWR, coutermeasures and SEAD. Little steps add up. Now I fly online a bit. Have fun and ask questions!
