Dynamic Campaign Discussion Thread
J. Heller replied to winchesterdelta1's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Dynamic Campaign All this time... Where is it? Put this game down two or three years ago due to the boring, repetitive, and scripted missions. Nothing has changed, will it ever change? I am still using software from 1998 that provides more replayability than this "modern" sim. Thats my one wish, a dynamic campaign. Everything else is just... repetitive. -

All this time has passed and still no DC in this sim... Still playing Falcon4, but I would put it down in a heartbeat if we could finally get another sim with a real DC in it. Lets get on with it already. -
The view I'm talking about lets you adjust so you can see the mirrors and everything without making the cockpit look like its microscopic, and when you adjust the zoom your head stays against the seat and everything moves with you so you dont get that weird mile away look. I dunno, I'll play with it more tomorrow, I have to sleep. I read your post Peter... I assure you what I am looking for is nothing so complicated.
-
Press keypad enter and turn your head...the friggin seat IS A MILE AWAY STILL! You see what I'm saying here? Zoom in so the seat is close, now you turn back around and the panel is in your grill. Zoom out and everything looks far away... There is a way to make this shite go away and all I need is the right key combo... I'm not mad anyone here but I am getting frustrated with this to the point of quitting if I can get this view thing sorted. The worst part is I KNOW FOR A FACT IT EXISTS IN THE STOCK GAME, I just cant remember how to do it. For the love all that is holy there must be someone who knows...
-
There is no listing of this command that I can find... Believe me I looked. And the only advice I got was key pad enter or get a mod. Can I just ask a question? No one know wtf I am talking about? When you are in the default cockpit view mode everything is far away, turn you head and you will notice the ejection seat looks like you are sitting forward in it like two feet. There is a certain key combo that gets rid of this type of view and makes it much more natural. When you look around everything looks closer like it should, the seat looks like your head is resting on it. Its unplayable with the stock damn view... I'm about ready to just call it quits and fire up Falcon again. SOMEONE MUST KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT, PLEASE!
-
So, no one is gonna help here? I do not like the view that it gives you standard upon entering the cockpit... There is a certain key combination that gets rid of the strange distance in the standard cockpit view and makes it look more like you are closer to everything. This is not zoom in or out but a new view mode itself. I have tried every godamn thing I can think of and nothing is working. I know this command exists because I used it before. Does no one see what I am saying at all? The standard view is just plain weird and there is a way to correct it... someone must know what I'm talking about.

No it isn't a mod, I was doing this when A-10 first came out. And what is "KP-Enter"? There is a simple key combination to fix the view in the sim...
-
Decided to get back into this thing but I can't figure out how to change the view in the cockpit from the default and some what odd perspective. This is difficult to explain but the default view makes things seem far away. For instance if you turn around and look at the seat it looks like its two feet away from your head, not a few inches like it should be. Sure you can zoom in but then you can see anything else. I know there is a key or combination to fix this and make the view more normal but for the life of me I cant remember what it is. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about and how to change to the better view? Also, I'm not using a trackIR at the moment. Thanks for the help.

Yes you can, I'm even dreading having to install alll this stuff again AND semi-re learning the A-10 since I have been AWOL for some time:pilotfly:

Hi, maybe this question has been answered before but call me lazy cause I didn't search for it, sorry. I need to know how to use the Steam version of DCS A-10 in DCS World. Can I just download the A-10 files from ED and then use my Steam product code to activate it? I just thought I would ask before wasting my time, I dont have a lot of it at the moment. Thanks.
-
Ok thanks guys. I'll just wait for it to be released as an actual installation package. Beta's arent really the thing for me.
-
So I have to pay for P-51 to get DCS world? I dont want no stinking WW2 aircraft. If not then great and thanks!
-
I own A-10, how do I use this DCS world thingy? Is there some installation or something? Is it automatic? I have the steam version, dont know if that matters. Could use some insight into what I'm supposed to be doing with DCS world. Thanks.

Dynamic Campaign Discussion Thread
J. Heller replied to winchesterdelta1's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Any closer to a dynamic campaign? Havent been to this forum in awhile, and have in fact put down A-10 due to the fact that I have played the SP campaign and am not interested in MP. Seems like the only sim like this out there anymore but for all the aircrafts greatness the environment really sucks. Are there any new SP campaigns? Is a true dynamic campaign ever going to come? Oh jesus, if it wasnt for the awful graphics I would still be playing Falcon 4... Someone tell me there is hope. Immerse me in the conflict I beg you! These scripted SP missions are boring the hell out of me. -
No one uses the FMG? Guess I will just have to play with it a bit to figure it out...I dont really have time for this...
-
Who likes to get down and dirty, upclose and personal..
J. Heller replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Returning the aircraft to base in one piece is my main priority, if it is safe to do so I will roll in with rockets and guns but otherwise it not worth it to have a 5k dollar manpad missle destroy my multi-million dollar aircraft. -
After giving some thought I decided to use the FMG included with the sim to get a bit more out of it. I selected a medium difficulty setting and left everything as far as force levels were concerned set at medium for both sides. Heres my problem: By the time I got airborne ( which wasnt very long since I am familiar with the A-10) all the enemy targets had already been destroyed and JTAC had nothing for me to do. Heres my question: If anyone uses this FMG what settings give the best results as far as creating "realistic" scenarios? I dont want an entire cluster**** of enemy targets that I have no hope of destroying but also I dont want to get in the air only to have the mission already be over. Any suggetions?
-
Well, heres hoping the next iteration of DCS has more to offer...
-
I want to use this sim again, I just cant justify wasting time on the only worthwhile campaign in the game since I already played through it once. Are there any plans for a new campaign to be released? Please dont direct me to the user files in the DCS site, there is nothing there as far as campaigns go.

The SA-10 is indeed a very deadly threat, terrain masking is the only way to deal with it. The missiles range isnt so much a problem as is its stealthy engagement pattern. One small blip on the RWR and the missile is on its way, then nothing until about 10 seconds to impact and you will see another blip. At that point you are probably going to be dead very soon from a collision with an explosive tipped telephone pole. The SA-10 uses a unique guidance system that relies on its onboard active radar only twice in its engagement sequence. Once on launch and once on terminal target aquisition. Everything in between is passive guidance provided by local search radars so, perhaps,(if this is even modeled in the sim)destroying any local search radar will limit the "stealth" ability of the SA-10 by forcing its onboard guidance to go full active to track your plane. Also I believe the on-board guidance system of the missile has a very limited range, thus makig the local search radars even more important. I could be wron about this though. Even though you may be able to make the missile easier to detect and track it is still just best to avoid the thing all together in such a slow and Wild Weasel unfriendly plane like the A-10. No commander in his right mind would send A-10s into an area known to have any SA-10 threat anyways, prior SEAD strikes would have to be carried out to eliminate them. We will find out how to really handle these things when DCS:Hornet gets here, although my experience with them in Falcon should help some. Stay low, real low and then pop up and send a maverick or HARM into the launcher. The real issue is that SA-10's can be placed so far behind enemy lines and still be effective over the FLOT, getting to them is half the fun sometimes. For those who fly the A-10, just stay away from them, period.

Thanks, thats all I really needed to hear. That there will eventually be a DC is good enough for me, now to just wait... -

I dont know why I keep coming back, lol... Why does everyone on the ED team constantly dance around the issue? These fabricated missions we have in DCS are good for ONE go only, maybe two if you didnt get it right the first time. After that wheres the excitement? You already know whats going to happen, where and when it going to happen and how its going to happen. As for the random mission generator, ok it works but there is no feeling of accomplishment when you complete the mission since it isnt really conected to or affecting anything. Just one example of how a DC makes the sim more immersive and FUN: I was flying a DCS campaign, on the way back home (from the same mission I had flown successfully 3 times by then)I notived the airport near my airbase had been pretty much blown all to hell. I mean the whole terminal was blown up... I start up the next mission, which takes place later that same day, and fly over the same airport to find that god himself has resurrected the airport from ashes... I lol and exit DCS. Can anyone on the ED team at least admit to the advantages of a DC, if only to give me hope that one day we might get one for the DCS series? What good is realism( a term that scares me, since it seems those here think it means flying the same pre-made missions over and over again) if what happens in one mission has nothing to do with the next? Let the flaming begin (Tharos, Eth, anyone associated with ED). -

And the thread goes round and round, why even bother with this discussion? Guess I will just have to wait for some other company to make a modern air combat simulator with a dynamic campaign, thanks for the effort though ED. -

Your post reeks of insult to those who choose to fly offline, or agains AI opponents. In truth, for me at least, none of the things you have said is true. It is ALL about being the one little piece in a very large war machine, that is what makes the DC so valuable. With your argument you have basically stated that all DCS missions are Red Flag exercises, and you would be right. Well, I dont need/want no stinkin' exercises, I want an experience. And as of now I have nothing left to experience, play with or explore. Repeating the same campaign over and over holds no appeal, same with the single missions and, for now, DCS is on the shelf. Just for your benefeit, flying an airplane is nothing even close to brain surgery, though for those of a limited capacity I can understand how they might make the comparison. -

Obviously you dont know me well enough to make that statement. I have been flying airliners on VATSIM for years and offline with aftermarket ATC programs before that, believe me I know how ATC works.
