  1. I hate to bump threads, but @Capt Zeen, can you help me figure out why my second profile isn't working?
I'd love to be able to set it up to switch between Pilot and RIO pits in the Tomcat, or even be able to use it in any other plane.  The Helios control panel appears to be designed to support this, but it doesn't work in game.

The log is in my post above

Hello i want to export the Left MPD when i changes seat i want also to change the view. Is  thi possible? Because i can see only the co-pilot MPD

from what I've been able to tell, it doesn't distinguish between seats.  But, you can switch profiles manually when you change seats.  Under preferences in the control center, you can set a hotkey to bring up the control center window, then you just switch to the other profile and click start.

    EDIT:

Unless I did something wrong in the setup, it appears that Helios does not support on-the-fly switching between layouts.  This profile loaded fine by itself, but after I loaded a different profile  and switched back to it, it gave me an error:

  3. I'm having trouble getting Helios to work.

I'm trying to get it to display the F-14's HSD on a small screen, but the HSD is not showing up when I load a mission in DCS.

I've tried a couple of tutorials, but they all seem to go way to in depth in creating custom profiles, but don't cover the basics.  Maybe I'm missing something.  Here's step-by-step what I did

    • I setup Helios profile editor and configured it to see the DCS install folder
    • I clicked Add Interface and selected the F-14B.
    • Double clicked the monitor I wanted to add the display to.
    • Found F14B Unmodified F14_HSD in the Simulator Viewports Tab of the Toolbox and dragged it onto the monitor.  Resizing to fit.
    • Saved Profile
    • loaded Helios Control Center
    • tabbed up&down until the name of the profile appeared in the box
    • clicked start
    • Loaded DCS and started a mission

At this point it should have populated on the screen, right?  I also tried setting the background to black or a static image, and that showed up on the screen, so I know Helios is talking to the screen.

What am I missing here?  This should be as simple as it gets.

I've included the profile I attempted to make

Edit: I found a tutorial by Overkill Simulations on Youtube that went over setting up a simple profile from start to finish, I was missing the whole monitor setup step and didn't have the right viewport interface loaded, and I had to configure the DCS settings to use Helios.

PS.  It would have been nice if the Monitor setup interface stuff was loaded automatically, since it is something you need to do on every profile.

  4. I'd actually recommend no curve at all with the Tomcat.  Since it isn't FBW, you're better off with 1:1 response along the entire throw.

The tomcat also responds better to slow stick movements rather then fast or jerky ones.  Remember that the tomcat does not have a G-limiter like the Hornet.  If you jerk it back too fast, the cat will gladly pull enough Gs to snap the wings and instantly knock the pilot unconscious.

You can still pull high Gs, just pull the stick back gently.

She also doesn't like combined inputs.  If you want to do something like a banking turn, roll first and then pitch.

I definitely agree that you should adjust curves in DCS rather then the joystick software though.  Each plane is a little different, and DCS allows you to tune each one individually.

  5. I thought Anderson was supposed to be a somewhat bumpy field.

It's an easy way to show to the devs exactly how, where, and under what circumstances damage is occurring, which is presumably why Flappie is asking for it. A coordinate - while it points out the bump - doesn't do that.

Taxing on A to B (abeam parking spot 65, N13 34 37/ E144  55 37) the ground is so rippled that it damaged the landing gear and I was forced to either repair it or get a new.  I seen that others have complained about the unevenness of the surface on this map, so I doubt that this will be addressed. "It was a free map, so why are you bitching!"

Your GPS coordinates aren't all that precise, a Track file will give them the exact spot.  IIRC, it could be anywhere within a hundred feet of that spot.

Do not move the wing sweep handle all the way forward from oversweep, it will not move if you do that, as you shown. I always only bring it to 68° position push it down and press master reset. Never failed to move for me that way.

It will only re-engage the detent if you go full forward.

  7. The Kuznetsov model is more or less an afterthought addition to the supercarrier.  (in fact I thought it was also included with the FC3 pack).  They may update it at some point, but the main focus of the Supercarrier is the blue side carriers.

  8. UPDATE:  Non MT Will not run either all of a sudden.  It was working before I installed the new Sinai map.  The non MT shortcut is giving me an error that says "The application was modified"

UPDATE UPDATE:  It seems that windows just decided that it didn't like my SSD, everything installed on it was giving the same error.   Restarting seemed to fix the problem.

Default is "off". At least for cold start.

Everything is set to OFF in cold start.  That's why setting AIR SOURCE to BOTH is part of your Engine Start Checklist.

If you have a hot start or an air start it defaults to BOTH.

Doesn't work after the last patch

    what exactly doesn't work?

I just tested it and didn't have any issues.

I was only quoting the Hornet coz we see Finnish pilots doing it with their Hornets and even in sometimes we do see even in the Super Hornet doing aerobrake landing by USN pilots.

Despite NATOPS manuals saying otherwise, some pilots do this when landing on runways.

It is also SUPER hard almost impossible to do a long flare nose up with the Hornet in DCS. But with half flaps it flaring and aerobrake is easy.

that's not really the same thing.  In the second video at least, he doesn't really flare much at all, he just is balancing the plane on the main gear after touchdown like in that Tomcat video.  Just because they have enough angle to not make a 3 point landing doesn't mean they are flaring.

  12. 11 hours ago, jojyrocks said:

Finnish air force does it with their Hornets too, flare and aerobrake a bit. In DCS flight modelling on that is a bit off as it is impossible to land with aerobraking on Hornet.

Supposedly, in the Hornet you need to land with some force just to get the landing gear to engage properly.

I know, i made so much screen like this (for SA map also) and for private mods, but it's a real bother to need reloading it everytimes theire is an update, especialy when using OB. Those screens are remplaced by the originals at every update and even hotfix, even when using JSGME... 😉

you could always use a different user theme.  I had the same problem, so I downloaded a different menu theme from user files and installed it as the "USER THEME."  Doing it this way means that it won't be replaced every time the game patches.

Yeah, that's the case.  I'll try removing the 2nd stage.

    Thanks.

remove the first stage.  You want it to fire when you squeeze the trigger completely, the first stage would start the gun camera rolling.

Pretty sure air source was set to both.  I was able to fire the gun after all, just there was no pipper.

See video here, scroll to 21:35:  you will see I have selected A/G, turned master armo on, ORD is in the HUD uncrossed, gun selected, G in the HUD--but no pipper.  I was able to shoot and hit my target by best guessing it and the ADL cross, but had no pipper or ranging.  Another go at 26:00, another at 27:50,  Oddly enough I was even able to fire the gun with "ORD" in the HUD at one point.

judging by the fact that your HSD is non-functional, I'd guess that something on the jet is bent, probably your INS or your radar.  Did you take damage or overstress the jet before the strafing run?

I don't use Standalone, so I don't know if this will actually do the intended behavior of updating without running the game, although this is the method I use for my dedicated server.

Make a shortcut of the DCS_updater somewhere, like on your Desktop, and then right click and choose Properties. Then update the Target like so.

Note, don't just copy & paste this. <DCS_INSTALL_PATH> needs to be a fully qualified path to your DCS installation folder. The main parts are update and --quiet. Also, be sure to have a space between update and the quote at the end of the exe path.

    "<DCS_INSTALL_PATH>\bin\DCS_updater.exe" update --quiet

wouldn't that just run the single thread bin?
