Just want to thank all the folks in here: I'm an old simmer, never did like the original track IR, but I bought the latest setup for BS and I'm gonna try an get setup in the next few days.
The info here is really gonna help.
-
I was going through all the BS real life shots on you tube.
This is my favorite
-
Well I was bummed thinking no training missions till almost spring, so even though I just shelled out 30 clams to learn the russian alphabet a week ago, I'll gladly send some more to ED.
It's not so bad compared to what I'm spending for hardware to run it, hehe (2700 in the last two weeks.)
I been training on the rig below while I build a new one---it's not pretty.
-
users of CH manager had to update newinput.dll to get multiple keystrokes---I did anyway---will this be necessary in the current english download?
-
I love this entry:
Falcon: Operation Infinite Resolve was developed by Force 12 Studios and was due to be published by G2 Interactive in 2002.
Status: Cancelled
-
ED ought to put up missions for english users who have bought the russian version.
They won't loose a sale---in fact they would probably sell more of the english release.
And they would make us all very happy.
-
wow shows how awesome 2.0 really was--that was my first version.
-
I may not be understanding this well, but why are you not using the deactivation option?
In my case, it's the points thing. Deactivate on your old machine, activate on your new, you still loose one of only three chances, because a CPU is 13 points. I think many are finding they burn through activations for simple hardware changes, because of the points system outlined in the FAQ.
If we knew worst case we could contact DCS for a new key with proof of purchase, as is possible in FC, this would not be an issue, and you would have many happy customers.
Quite a few are upset about this issue.
-
Y wish DCS-ED could be kind enough like with FC and send more activations if you show they a proof about purchase and you have spent all.
That's such a no-brainer.
I bought rus version. I will buy eng version.
I have old computer, to weak to run BS except low on everything.
I am building new computer shortly.
So I figured, install on old, learn, deactivate the reactivate on new. NP
Then I learn about the points. WTF.
I don't care about SF or whatever, and I'm really psyched about BS, but this even has me pissed.
-
Will an english download be available prior to DVD release?
-
My highest priority is FPS, I'm sure the xfi will be better than onboard in sound quality---but would it also effect fps in DCS BS?
ty sirs
The answer is YES with 0.9 probability.

Even when I switched from onboard audio to Audigy 1 the stuttering when I was passing a column of tanks at very low alt was not the case anymore.
Two more interesting replies.
What is your OS Bucic?
I'm looking for the best solution in vista64.

Vista does not spport the radio voice comms in Open Falcon multiplayer sessions.
TY sir.
Ordered one more thing today. I was gonna use my old coolermaster praetorian case, but I had worries about fitting the 4870x2 and cooling.
Found this at newegg:

what do you guys think I should do about sound? the asus board has decent on board, but wondering what would be the best thing for performance in DCS?
-
AFAIK there is only 2 solutions solutions for vista.
It's ALchemy+X-Fi/Audigy2 and 3DSoundBack+RealtekHD.
So if you want correct 3D sound - you got limited choise :)
Thank you for excellent input---I'm way behind the curve, this will be my first vista build.
I'll be using the asus P5E, with ADI AD1988B audio chipset on board.
for xfi the X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional is 139.00 at newegg.

I'm building a system now for DCS, vista x64.
I'm wondering what to do about a sound card for it.
I was looking at x-fi options but hear mixed reviews
alot of people seem to like this card:

any input apreciated.

Well, this may not exactly be a professional opinion, but perhaps a kind of endorsement...? ;)
I watched that--wish I had some russian. Can you give us a synopsis?

I have the 30" samsung LCD and I am running it at the 2560 x 1600 resolution. I have everything cranked up on nhancer and in the game and boy is this game beautifullllll. It's not great fps but it is playable at an average of 24 fps. My system is getting dated. I set the game to run on all 4 cpu's after startup which helps.
Intel Quad 6600 2.4ghz @2.8, 4GB Kingston1066 @875, 768gb8800Ultra, and my crappy asus striker extreme board that I need to change.
I have all my hardware on the way as noted above, but I still haven't pulled the trigger on the 30". You don't seem toooo dated there, hehe, but maybe the 4870x2 will pull up my fps a bit from your 24 on that big screen.
I think you've inspired me to do something foolish.
PS I did it.
-
I would really like to see how BS behives on your system. I ordered almost identical parts and waiting for it. Though I'm getting 3x1gig 1600 corsair. I'll be using XP 32bit due to the Vista IVC problem in Open Falcon.
It's funny I've been thinking about F4 also in relation to vista. What is the IVC issue in OF? I'm reading that AF will work on vista64, though perhaps I would have problems with cat drivers on the 4870x2 card.
I been grounded a long time so I'm trying to catch up.
-
any chance that somewhere down the road we will figure out how to do it automatically?
-
TY for all the info guys. BTW i still have my original track IR, which I never could get to work right in IL2
But I'd like to try freetrack with BS.
I have a wii remote.
can I get it working in vista64?
some posts mention ppjoy, which I know will not work in vista64.
I will be using russian version for now.

In the first itteration of DCS you can pretty much forget about PvP combat, unless you want som less then realistic Ka-50 vs. Ka-50 action.
Well it could be pretty fun anyway. I'd like to see a dogfight server up, hehe
-
Afghanistan.
F-16
Su-27
Choose versions to give us the fairest fights, hehe
-
Well let's be realistic, the Su-25 was DONE---I mean it was really a finished product, so seems like it might be able to get in BS.
Nothing else has advanced flight model built---I'd say F-16, since it is in wide use and does everything, and then pick a russian counterpart that will make for some fair fights, hehe. Does the su 27 totally over match an f-16?
-
OK I'm about to order
E8600
Asus P5e
4870x2
Velociraptor
4gbs corsair dominator
etc.
Vista ultimate x64
TY for all the great advice, fingers crossed, no DOAs
on my sig below is the last gaming rig I built, hehe. Been out of flying anything for 3 years or so, but BS has me fired up!
Now I have to dust off the CH hotas and get some help with that crazy stuff.
-
At that high of resolution you would benefit from any dual GPU setup.
I got this from tomshardware.com, been using it as a refrence for 10+ years..
I do have some misgivings with ATI as I've had 3 of their products over the years and have always had terrible driver support. 2 of 3 of their cards I've owned ended up with bad video memory after a few months and had to be replaced..
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Best PCIe Card For Over $350:
Good 2560x1600 performance in most games, some with lowered detail
In this author’s opinion, with exponentially increasing prices over $350 offering smaller and smaller performance increases, we have a hard time recommending anything more expensive than two Radeon HD 4850s. While the 4870, GTX 260 and GTX 280 perform impressively in multiple card configurations, there’s just not enough of a gain compared to two 4850s in Crossfire mode, unless you’re playing at resolutions beyond 1920x1200.
Then again, while we often recommend against purchasing any graphics card more than $350 from a value point of view, there are those of you to whom money might not be much of an object, who can afford a 30” LCD monitor
, and who require the best possible performance money can buy. For those of you, we recommend the Radeon HD 4870 X2, the fastest video card on the planet:
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You can't go wrong with either 2 of the 4850's or 2 280's
You'll need a big PSU.
The thing is with dual GPU(or quad) is you will become CPU limited because it will not be able to process fast enough to keep these cards loaded up. You need a minimal of an x6800 extreme to feed these things the E8600 should be ok for this.
On NewEgg you can get a quad core 9550 for $319.00 and the E8600 is $269.00 personally I'd go for the quadcore. Eventually the DCS engine will be upgraded to take advantage of multicore processors any way.
TY for excellent reply.
The thing is the 9550 is 2.83GHz, while E8600 Wolfdale is 3.33GHz, and from what I'm reading here, 2 cores is good, and GHZ makes a big diff. So i figured go with the fastest dual core, use x64 vista and the affinity thing.
Please correct me if I have that wrong.
Considering how long it took to get the sim, I'm not expecting quad core support for quite awhile--but maybe I'm mistaken.
all input greatly appreciated.
BTW 4870 X2 again I'm hearing this is the thing if I want hi rez on big screen, but wondering if DCS really uses both GPUs?

Black Shark Hardware
in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Posted
Well, I finally have the thing together, up and running, specs in sig.
It's incredible. Using affintiy 2, very smooth fps all high except water and med distance 2560x1600 on the 30". It's my first real test so I'll have to play with settings, but I'm VERY smooth now running on both cores, no overclock.
Friggin gorgeous!!!
I will add xfi next week. 4870 ran a bit hot at 25% fan, but I bumped to 75% and she cooled right down.
Total hardware cost around 2900 (including 1100 for monitor) plus another 130 for latest track IR.
Build was easy really, only glitch was the supremeFX onboard sound which is a nightmare--unusable with current drivers on vista64--2ch only---hence xfi coming. P5E confused about e8600 at first, but booted--flashed bios and whoosh.
Anyway thank you everyone for all the great advice.
and it's acutally QUIET with ati fan at 25% and the 5 big fans in the tempest case!!!
I been saving since flaming cliffs for a blackshark system, and of course you never know if it will really pull untill the money is gone.
SO I'm pretty damn stoked. THinking of sending the Svkal to my 20", hehe.
