Overall, I did not like it. It was very much hyped by the producers to be on par with Top Gun Maverick in regards to the flying scenes, even to the point of featuring one of the same actors. Therefore, my bar was set high enough I went to see it in the theater. It wasn't even close. Maverick did a great job of making even the CGI overlay stuff look accurate, and it totally worked. Among other things, Brown's comically long approach to the carrier, Corsairs launching off the deck and climbing like an airshow Hornet.. it just became uncomfortable. I really don't know Brown's history, but the story really made him come off as an unqualified sub par aviator. The emotional connections between the actors was flat, I simply couldn't make myself care for them. It was a missed opportunity for a great film about great men.
