Request - G940 Tips/Tricks Compendium
Nose Nuggets replied to Nose Nuggets's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
SWEET! Thanks so much for that. -
I have a G940 showing up today and after trying my hand at the search function and recalling information read in HOTAS threads i am completely lost. There seems to be varying information regarding 'slop', curves, force feedback settings, and button assignments. I also recall a thread were someone made an addon/plugin that bound the 8 buttons on the base of the throttle to AP and weapons buttons but now i cant find it. Being that this particular model HOTAS has a fair amount of discussion here, i politely request people post threads they have used to complete their G940 configurations, as well as other tips, tricks, or plugins being used with DCS products. Thanks, Tristan

Two windows OS's can still transfer files between their partitions. It would behoove you to wipe the driver entirely and start fresh, less you risk re-infecting your system from the infected partition.

You can task the PhysX device for all sorts of things. Ragdoll is one common feature, but it can calculate location for any dynamic world asset, like a box that gets blown into pieces, or a window that shatters, or a crumbling wall; these are all dynamic physics driven events. I watched a tech demo for Mafia II, which is coming out pretty soon (sandbox, GTA style game) and they have the PhysX device driving the protagonists trench coat. looks pretty cool. running around makes it flap in the wind. even nearby explosions toss it around. well, that was longer a than intended description. -
Thought it was high time we make a collection of video sweetness, I'll start. IFOYmeiY4jA&vq=hd720 uJaVnwX_x4M ykI7-vG7Nos y0kOfRaTsYs

firstly, windows' determination of system health is irrelevant. its less then relevant in fact and can be counter productive if used to assess system health. secondly, saying everything meets reqs except the CPU means you dont meet reqs. the CPU is debatably the most important part. you could have a quad SLI system but its all worthless if the CPU cant crunch the numbers fast enough. lastly, even with proper and minimum req gear drivers have the potential to cause all kinds of havoc. DXDIAG or bust. -
YEAH! Although, the debate in the comments seems to edge out over the video for pure entertainment value.

Thanks for all your help today speed! The manual to auto-hover's are getting easier and easier. I have a full understanding of how the AP and FD systems work, what they do, how much they do it, and how to fly with them. Now that i have started using the AP on and the FD off and making inputs with the Trim held down my overall flying is more consistent. I have not used the collective break at all yet, although i know what it does. with the altitude AP on i have been doing okay but i do need to start incorporating the collective break. My main issue is over/under correcting when moving back to level flight from a turn or correction. also, not being precise with the inputs, and focusing to much to correcting one plane of movement at a time instead of using all the HUD and gauge information adjust all planes at once seems to be lingering. these are probably more of a practice thing then a technical deficiency thing though.

I think i'll take you up on this. What training vids have you watched? All i have really found are the producers notes on YouTube. The rudder seems rather important, even for basic flight. Are you sure learning without it would be helpful? Right now im just trying to get a solid feel for slow, controlled movement and i usually have the AP setup just as you suggested while trying to slowly taxi around the airfield. Hahaha, yeah my current 6 hours is probably spread over a week and a half and i just fired the canon for the first time last night after re-watching the #6/7 producers note on YouTube. But i have still shelved combat entirely for now. not being able to put the aircraft where i want it is a huge hindrance that needs to be resolved first and foremost.

Can anyone provide a resource for basic flying help? I cant seem to cure this sensation of being 2 second behind the helicopter. I havent even really fired any weapons yet. i have been happy as a clam just flying the thing around. but after about 4 hours of flying about 6 total hours in game i dont feel like i have progressed much. i have a feeling my joystick might be an issue as well but i hate jumping to blame equipment. i have a pretty basic logitech wireless joystick with the twist rudder and i think im twisting a lot when i dont intend to. any help would be great!

i bought mine on Steam! i <3 steam

They are also entirely different games IMO.

thats weird, i had the same experience as the other guy. when i took control of your track and turned all the AP off it was almost impossible to crash the thing. it just returns to a level hover no matter what you do with the inputs. QuickSilvers CrazyTrimming track is pretty damn impressive, though. It has helped me out a lot.

WOW! Thanks so much for the tips guys. I'm going to try all of these suggestions over the weekend. Do you think the trackclip pro would make the overall tracking smoother?
