  1.

Can you do push/pull actions with the controllers? For example the Hornet hook, parking brake, or radio channel controls? Also flipping the INS knob is incredibly awkward because you have to move your right hand back and rotate it palm up to move that switch. I'm just wondering if there's something I'm missing.

In the f-18, you use the thumbstick..

Point and grab, then push or pull the switch with the thumbstick.

I use a razer gaming pad for slew controls, but the f-18 is fully flyable with just the touch controls.

Its hard for two weeks, then its easy. I don't even use my HOTAS anymore- unless im on the harrier..

  2. I have been trying DCS for a while now, but I only have a crappy old flight stick. I can fly but it’s not that great. There are no ThrustMaster warthogs available, the ones overseas would take just as long if not longer to get. I like flying RC helicopters but with COVID I thought I would get back into flight sims. Problem is Microsoft came just at the wrong time for me, that program looked cool but when I saw DCS I said, now that’s for me. But it’s just been too hard without a proper Flight stick setup, I’m thinking of packing it in. I’ve been trying to buy a good stick, but I refuse to pay 1200 for something that sold for $450 or less a few months ago. Too bad I really liked this game. Advice anyone. To me it seems I need a good throttle with a stick, I just can’t land right, I can get the plane on the ground but not smooth, landing on a carrier even harder, refueling forget it.

try a vr headset with touch controls.. you may be surprised..

  3. Honestly? I have a Logi G940, and had a Warthog, the feedback from VR is more like a 'sense', than a feel..

There's a deeper connection to the aircraft..

If I fly the the F18 with my HOTAS, i feel like im in control of a machine, if I use the Touch Controls- I feel like 'i am' the machine..

Then there's the huey, which is magical..

There's a two week discipline,if you put your HOTAS away and use the touch controls for two weeks, you'll not go back..

If you 'give it a go' for a couple of days, you'll end up going back to your HOTAS.

I argued that my warthog, was miles better than touch controls, until I gave it two weeks, and air to air refuelled with my touch controls.

Everyone with VR has the controls, but no-one can air to air with them..

Plus, I've no more cables around my desk, which always annoyed me.

  4.

I tried the Touch controllers once - it was enough of an experience for me to never try them again. No way they can compete with a good HOTAS. Happy to keep using my TMWH. I don't use a deadzone either, used to use a curve but also removed that - prefer the 1:1. Found that I was "losing" some performance with having curves.

    Cheers,

    Ziptie

I can appreciate what youre saying, I think its the skill and achievement factor, anyone can air-to-air with a HOTAS after an hour of practice, but not everyone can do it with the Touch Controls, I like that elitism and now ill argue that a HOTAS cant compete with the touch controllers ..

When ive my headset on, i just feel totally immersed.. But i can understand its not for everyone..:pilotfly:

  5.

Old Warthog? Deadzone? Why do you feel the need to set a deadzone on this controller? Only thing you need a Deadzone for is the terrible slew controller.

A tiny bit of a curve for Pitch and Roll helps with precision arround 0, but this depends if you have the stick extended.

TrackIR AAR hurts my neck. Is doable on all airframes, but I cramp up for some wierd reason. VR is much more relaxed and full refuel in one go is the regular thing for me.

No daily training needed IMHO. Just put in your regular flightplan, try hook up once or twice and continue your mission. Try to stay relaxed as possible and only use your fingertips for your joystick.

I dont use a deadzone in when i fly in VR with the Touch Controls..

The warthog just didnt feel right after i started to use the touch controls, I still use the HOTAS for the Harrier, But after using VR touch controls, its more difficult..

  6. Sure. I have a group of 109s vectoring to an allied convoy to attack it with bombs. I would like the dropped bombs to have a (random) chance of hitting the ships but not a 100% chance of hitting a ship every time. Currently each bomb drop results in a direct hit which makes the mission unrealistic and too predictable.

I get you, i had the same issue with a B1 bombing unguided on a moving convoy.

    I had three options,

one, set the convoy to hold at a waypoint until i flew into the trigger zone, activating them on a flag. This resulted in a bombing drop quantity of 'all'- killing most of them as they moved to there next waypoint at 2 knots.

two, divided the convoy into three groups of two, the AI bombing the middle convoy on unguided resulted on the last two groups being destroyed as they moved to the next waypoint at 2 knots.

three, set up the convoy to arrive at the waypoint 5 seconds after the b1 started its bombing run on a 'attack map' objects, command- resulting in random some might be destroyed or all might be destroyed conclusion.

If i changed the plane to an F15E, i could change the accuracy again with altitude and making sure that they werent 'dive bombing..

If any of the aircraft are set to dive bomb, the accuracy is near 100%.

I can increase probability of damage with larger iron bombs, and i can increase accuracy with altitude.

If you pick 'ground attack', and select 'bomb map object' its more or less, going to give you a more random event.

  7. I always struggled with air to air refuelling, i could do it, but i found my limitation in my HOTAS.

After i switched to VR, i put two weeks into touch controllers and in my opinion, the sensory change in using the touch controllers is in my opinion hands down easier.

The throttle response is smoother and finer, and i can change up a knot or down a know, with more accuracy, and using the VR stick just feel more precise.

Maybe my old Warthog had seen better days, or my deadzones were too large, but i still struggle with my HOTAS now, and use touch controls only with the F-18, F-16, and Huey.

  8. You require a FARP object, FARP fuel/tanker and FARP Ammo, M818 etc. not sure about the exact units required for what. You are required to be "on"/touching the FARP object (may have changed in one of the last patches. Need to check).

Okay, ill have a look and try a few things out, What about the AI, how do i get them to land on the 'Road side FARP'?

  9. Sorry guys, what i mean-

I make a mission where im on the ground. Literally in the middle of a field far far away.

    Can i refuel?

What statics? Or ground units would i need, to enable me to refuel from that point?

Also, what happens to my wingman?

And how do i have him set down in that field with me?

    Many thanks..

    You sir.. Are my saviour!!

    How can i thank you?

  11. I was intrigued so I tried the Huey & FA-18 which both worked (Reverb).

Neither the Viggen nor Mirage seemed to allow control. Then again nor did the MiG-19 for me.

I certainly wouldn't swap the controllers for the Warthog but they work ok. There is a world shortage of HOTAS at the moment so if you really never plan to use it maybe now is the time to seel it!

you've really done me a big favour!

    I appreciate it..

I said the same thing, I gave it a full week, then tidied the hotas away.

    mig19?

i only use the beta, if that helps?

im not going to sell it yet, every now and then I get into the harrier..

so, ill sell it when that goes full vr..

    thanks baldrick33!

  12. How do you deal with all the buttons and HAT switches with touch controllers? Also not having any tension to the cyclic and stick. Everytime I grab the cyclic with my touch controller, it snaps into position making my Ka-50 wobble.

I know this is not answer to your question but was curious.

So ive always used a Razer Tartarus even when i had my HOTAS set up, its incredibly handy with the Ka-50, but i honestly never use that module, I use the Huey, nearly every day, as you can fly that fully compatible with the touch controls (with the exception of rudder), all you need do is trim left rudder, get into a hover, trim a little until correct. Then go fly your mission..

A friend of mine convinced me, and i was blown away by the improvement on stick and throttle accuracy, versus my HOTAS.

After a while, you feel a sort of instinct kick in, where you know if you pull quick and sharp on collective, the torque spins you.. If you drop the collective quick and sharp, you spin the other way..

Once you get that 'instinct' you kind of feel the aircraft through your hands, and the sound of the rotors, within a week of starting i was landing in stupid places just for fun.

If im on a huey mission, ill only press the keyboard once to trim rudder.

If i fly the FA18, i use the Razer but only for weapons and NWS, i can use rudder- stick and throttle on the FA-18 through the touch controllers, so its easier to taxi, takeoff air-to-air and land with the touch than it is on my HOTAS.

Ill do all my flying 'in cockpit' and only ever really use the Razer to turn off NWS, and after ive switched on AutoPilot in the cockpit, ill use it for the TGP and/or weapon release..

The VR in the F-18 is still pretty early on, so im looking forward to see where it goes in the next few years, the Harrier 'Nozzle' control was able to be VR touch controlled last time i checked, so im sure that module will soon be implemented.

But ive heard great things about the Mirage, and the Viggen, and it would be great if someone could tell me if those modules are 'touch compatible' (ie fly them by grabbing the stick with my virtual hands like the FA-18, because they are next on my list.

The Mig-19 is, but the Mig-21 isnt, so having classification on the modules that do and dont work, would be perfect.

I dont want to buy a module, and have to set up my HOTAS.

Do you have the Mirage? Or Viggen, could you tell me i they are Touch Controller compatible (ie grab the stick and throttle with the VR hands)?

  13. yeah, I know.. I've a warthog hotas sat on my shelf..

After a month using the touch/hand controllers to fly the f18, and huey I just can't go back..

    the immersion isn't there..

do you know, if the mirage or viggen are touch control compatible?

ie, I can fly the stick and throttle with the touch controls?

I really want them, but I don't want to have to use my horas, id rather ebay it.

  14. Nearly all ED modules can use VR controllers, the team have been working through them all, there maybe some tweaks needed on some modules.

    thanks

    Yeah, thats what i said.

Really appreciate the reply, but will the VR control support move to third party modules?

Its not a big deal, but it would be great to know.

Also, where is the profile for the VR controls? How do you remap them?

    Many thanks..
