Amazing video as always this time of year! SO many great things like DC, Eurofighter and (OMG) F-35! We can't wait for the specifics of "when" for . For me the holy grail of DCS would be the spherical world - the ability to fly and fight battles anywhere on the planet and we haven't seen anything about it. Is that still a thing and if yes is there any estimate?
-
I was thinking more of a feature that would permit parts of the terrain within a zone to be blacked out instead of a total blackout . Wasn't aware that this was already requested, but maybe my post will act as a reminder to devs if it's doable and the community wants it. Thank you all for your replies.

Hello, Sorry if this has already been mentioned or if it's already requested, I couldn't find any similar topic to this: It would be great to have an option to "disable" night lights on terrain via the mission editor (using a "disable_terrain_lights" action in a zone)? This would enhance immersion for example a bombing mission to a power station which if bombed an area will turn dark in a night mission? Not sure if current terrain architecture would even allow a step further with an option to select complete (100% darkness and not a single light) or partial darkness (most lights off apart from some random remaining ones in a city). This would simulate some residual lights in a city with buildings having generators - eg hospitals etc.

I was a bit disappointed that there was no reference at all to the spherical/world map in the "2024 and beyond" about progress or any estimated timeframe. I understand that currently, it's Vulkan and ray tracing, rendering, and cloud improvements they are focusing on (neither of which is a small thing!!!) but still, it would be nice to get an acknowledgment of progress update and maybe some teasing details!

Hi all, Unfortunately, 2.9 is quite a disappointment graphics-wise, at least from what I've seen in the forums for people like us having Oculus Quest 2. Don't know how other VRs with OpenXR perform for them but for me it's a blurry/ghosting mess. I've tried all different variations so far, the one that works best for me is DLAA without any DLSS. Ghosting is less but still 2.8 was much better visually in VR with the same settings. I hope it will be fine-tuned in the future. EDIT: I switched back to MSAA which restored DCS as it was. No ghosting and smooth now.

Indeed, which I believe hampers the potential for a truly open world combat sim, ultimately keeping their profits down as well in my humble opinion. The community with mods could have taken it to the next level (or levels) - the community already enhances it even with very limited tools at their disposal! Imagine if someone develops a combat sim which is open to modding, and covers the whole globe. I would be the first to jump jump ship! See MSFS, with all those quality addons like Fenix and PMDG which I have bought. Not to mention numerous sceneries from third parties. Why still all the limitations with DCS? Anyway, I feel I'm digressing. GO SPHERICAL EARTH MAP!
-
Dare I say....even release tools for modders to improve scenery! MSFS is fully moddable and open, SDK released and still there are tons of 3rd party companies developing constantly and making money! Imagine the added value and playability of making it open! Bring us the world as soon as possible! I have seen other sims in the making (eg NOS....however I'm afraid will not be commercially available, but you never know) and they will be modeling the whole world (NOS with Unreal Engine 5!) I would be more than eager to jump to any new combat sim that will simulate the whole world for ops, even if sacrificing whatever I have paid so far in DCS.

According to their announcement and previous interviews back in November 2021 it will be filled properly like msfs. What we don't know is will it be photoreal needing internet connection or more like p3d with autogen and generic mesh textures? Will we be able to use in mission editor? How will the aircraft maps in navigation/situation display work? What's the weather going to be like/set? How will existing maps be incorporated? How CPU/GPU/RAM demanding is it going to be? And most importantly..... what's their timeframe estimation for initial release? How close to a beta stage are we?
-
Hi all! After the "2023 and beyond" update I cannot stop thinking about the spherical earth map that will cover the entire planet. For me this is the biggest thing to be hyped about as for me there will trully be no limit for DCS then! I'm searching each day to see if there's any update, any estimate for initial release, any more details about its technology/quality, will it be photoreal with satellite images or pure autogen like fsx/p3d! Will 3rd party developers be able to enhance it (eg ORBX like in MSFS) with payware addons? So many questions...I really cannot remember any other time being this hyped with a DCS announcement!!!

Same for me, labels only render on one eye

Thanks Buzzline! Seems to be working fine!!! (sorry I marked your last response as a solution and not the one above!). Last update seems to have messed up the end-of-mission report....no kills showing and end mission button still not working. I used your logbook lua file and works perfeclty now!
-
Thanks BuzzLine, sorry I just noticed the response - Unfortunately I have reverted back toi 2.7 and then again back to 2.8 and tried plebty of scenarios so log file is no longer an option. But many thanks for this fix, I will give this a go and let you know. Much appreciated

investigating Large performance drop in VR after updating to 2.8
Antonisrho replied to some1's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Hey folks, same here with huge FPS drop (I have an old I7 4770K processor topping at 4.2 and a 3080, oculus quest 2 and 32 GB of RAM....I know time for an upgrade!!!). I was having the same issues but having such an old processor my performance drop made the game unplayable. So I reverted back to the last 2.7 version. Then after reading about people trying this and the other I though to try 2.8 once more. Since I updated to the last version (which included the hotfix) I didn't have such a bad performance anymore! There was some loss but not as bad as before (having gone from latest 2.7 to 2.8 and then to the hotfix). Having a Quest 2 I also followed this tutorial below and my performance has jumped to 2.7 levels....or even better I know we shouldn't be going through all this tweaking....but what can you do so maybe try to revert back to latest 2.7 and then try to update again to 2.8 (which now is cleaner as it includes the hotfix). Obviously do the necessary deletion of FXO metashaders2 etc.... -
2.8 loading textures takes a loooooong time.
Antonisrho replied to Das Boot's topic in Game Performance Bugs
Same here, World preload from 0-60 takes minutes for me now - used to happen in 4-5 seconds in 2.7. Also my RAM usage is ridiculous eating away all free RAM in the system while loading (between 18-21 GB which is signifficantly more than 2.7)!
