Once you press weapons release in 3/9 or 5mil modes the pipper does not represent the actual bomb impact point. The impact point will usually remain out of sight in these modes. I think you are confusing this pipper with the MAN CCIP one.
edit: also try the (beta 2) unguided munitions training mission, it's very good.

With the HUD as SOI you can slew the mav seeker around but it's not nearly precise enough to get it tracking. You can use it to get the seeker in the general area.
But if you look straight down in the sim you'll notice that your 'head' is almost as far forward as the edge of the seat iirc...
edit: at work now, will provide a pic when i get home.
Thanks for that, I just bought myself a shiny 26" 1920x1200 LCD and could use a bit of backing up the view :)
That's how I roll. Feels more natural too.
Wow, I think my very first sim was Secret weapons of the luftwaffe, although I remember little of it. Then Chuck Yeagers air combat, Eurofighter 2000 and Falcon 4. Good times.
Simhq has a great article on ccip bombing

The thing that struck me most is that you're not supposed to use the rudder for aiming.
Or use the mode switch on the throttle. This way you can assign three different functions to every button/hat (on the throttle AND the stick), and keep the pinky for NWS. I'm planning for a startup/takeoff/land/shutdown mode, nav mode and combat mode.
Sometimes you can remedy this by just continuing the mission and the training will continue from certain points like passing a waypoint or activating this or that system.
Huh? I'm not questioning you but how does this work when the engines are situated higher than the fuel tanks?
Also, first post :)
