Frostie, thanks - you've got me up and running on TS3 (and with a better understanding of it!) The other thing that I figured might be an issue is Firewall (running Windows 7 and have Kaspersky firewall running). Do I need to disable/enable something for my connection to online play? Regarding ping, I figured I'd run a test to see what mine is but all requests timed out so I got a 100% loss - is this related to my question above?

Thanks Kuky. I've got TS3 up and running on my PC and thought I'd see if I could plug into a server to see how to connect. Should I connect via the TS3 window and look for a server to connect to? Or is there another way? I see some online squadrons list TS3 servers as IP addresses - do I dial this IP via my browser or should it be done via the TS3 window?

I'd be grateful if anyone could point me in the direction of a 'how to' guide for multiplayer. Each year of simming that goes by I read more and more about how great it is and I figured its about time I stepped out of the dark ages. I've had a scour through the forum plus other sources and haven't really got anywhere other than figuring out that I need to hard wire to my router (rather than wireless) but am not sure what opening ports is, ping rates and all that. I've also had a good go through the multiplayer notes in the DCS GUI guide and will be getting TS3. Any assistance gratefully received. Timc

Comparing 1.2.0 World to 1.1.2.3.6451. or whatever it was of DCS: A10-C, AI taxi into the HAS after landing. Doors open for them and close after entry. HAS looks much better too.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Tried using the rotary and that works well.

Does anyone know how to get the slider on the throttle or one of the rotaries to control the RPM lever? I've created top and bottom bands on the slider to correspond with page up and page down (keys for RPM up and down) but its too abrupt and difficult to control accurately.

Gents (kind of assuming that's the case here...) Thanks to all for your help. Mustang, it's good old BT alright. I'm in Twickenham and can get some decent speeds but hadn't appreciate that they throttle torrents at certain times. Been down to 0.5kB in the last hour shoeing a completion time of 3 weeks! I'll stick it out; everything I've seen so far on this aircraft looks very impressive. How is Essex? Family are out that way and they've been complaining about the appalling rain. It's not like we're got a drought on or anything.

Anyone out there able/happy to do some bit torrent seeding? I'm 11 hours in and have 3 days to go. Not sure I can wait that long! Using fairly decent UK service with ok speed but could be that:cry:

Cowboy Well said. My sentiments exactly.

The typical (or standard?) set up for the SA-11 appears to be acquisition radar platform (grill pan?), command centre a number of launchers. Am I right in thinking that even if I disable the radar platform the launchers are still capable of tracking and launching the missile? I have read that the missile has semi-active radar guidance but am not sure what this means. Thanks in advance.

Do tell more! Out of interest, I was considering the TM Warthog but do I read right that it doesn't have a twist for rudder capability?

Ditto. About the UK squadron and having not flown online before. And the kids. And the wife.

For the love of God, please dont. The last thing I need is you boys putting MORE detail into the sim that will screw up my half baked attempts to refuel like a line caught tuna on speed.

Very useful - thanks +1

@ronht: LMAO!

Approach plates and SIDs are available for Batumi, Kutaisi and Tbilisi from EAD Basic. You'll need to register but its free. PAMS light gets you to charts - seach for Georgia and you'll get a number of files. http://www.ead.eurocontrol.int/publicuser/public/pu/login.jsp

\caveat on: I'm not in the sim so cant verify this but my crusty brain thinks its true so therefore it is.... \caveat off. Switch the Page dial on the AAP to Position (or use the UFCD) and I think that it displays height above ground.
-
These are great. For anyone who is interested, EAD Basic (registration free) will get you access to approach plates and other airport information on Kopitnari/Kutaisi, Batumi and Tbilisi.

It's helped me loads. I feel so much better.

I think we need some more seeds or something. Current ETA on download is 4 weeks, 1 day for me! Not sure I can wait that long....
-
Ah, that would be one of the twenty or so methods I didn't try! Thanks - I'll give this a go later.

Can anyone tell me how to input lat and long waypoints into the CDU? I'm trying to create new waypoints within the CDU system rather than mission editor and have named a new waypoint in the relevant mission slot, set the elevation, but I cant enter the lat and long details. There's no degree symbol and I just cant work out how to input something like N31[degrees sign]15.500. Also, and this is a daft question, but how would I convert the lat long format from something like Google Earth into the format used by the CDU? ie something like 36[degrees]39[minutes]44.06[seconds]N, 115[degrees]01[minutes]19.52[seconds]W Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Having loitered around a few sim forums over the past years I've seen all manner of advice in relation to getting into something new. This post is one of the best I've read.

Its systems detail that I like so was impressed by the things that I didn't expect to work, such as: - Cross gate working - in a dive or climb with the gate open, seeing fuel flow into the lower tank - Engine windmilling in flight with fan speed shown on fan speed dial. Fan speed will increase in a dive (ie with an increase in IAS) - Emergency flap retract works slowly when stationary on ground but quicker in flight due to aerodynamic forces - Flight seems more 'squirrely' with pitch and trim SAS turned off - Yaw trim control working as advertised (although its not enough to control the yaw produced by an engine out)
