So, on a whim, I went and grabbed a QP today to give it a shot versus my G2. I used your settings and, honestly, wow. Visuals, much better. FOV, much better. Performance was better too! Native ASW seems to work pretty well, if not for a slight delay in kicking down to 45fps sometimes. I need to solve two things though, since I am not familiar with Oculus: 1. Is there a way to use quest link without having these damn controllers on all the time? Doesn't seem to want to let me just use the mouse. 2. Since I was using OpenComposite with my G2, I wonder if I need to remove anything in order to prevent any issues with the QP. I will dig around for that one. But yeah, preliminarily, big step up in visuals and performance. The audio is kind of bad though, may have to try my headset over the top. Edit: The experience kind of reminds me of when I tried the Aero out. Very noticeable uptick in visuals from using the G2 forever.

I’m going back and forth on this (did the $30 reservation because why not). I tried the Pimax 8kx at one point and it was a TERRIBLE experience. Most uncomfortable headset I’ve ever worn (and I’ve had most of them), issues with the cables, which were replaced, only to continue having issues with a brand new PC build. I did not like the software and the customer service to get a refund was an absolute nightmare to the point that I had to open a PayPal dispute to get them to move their asses. All of that makes me want to avoid this device. But that FOV and resolution is so enticing. I am also concerned about the battery nonsense… even when it’s plugged in you can theoretically outplay the battery charge and have to swap them? What?! And will they degrade over time, as all batteries do? Real sour taste in my mouth on that particular point.

1. This is subjective. Many (myself included) find anything less than 90 fps to be a stutter fest and an unpleasant experience so we stick with motion reprojection. If you can stomach it, then that is your call! I prefer unlocked motion reprojection via OpenXR toolkit at the moment because it allows me to have all other settings at high/ultra and remains smooth throughout game play. 2. AF 8x to 16x is a marginal performance cost IIRC, so whatever looks better to you. 3. Again, it boils down to which sharpening you prefer the look of. Some like FSR better than NIS. 4. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think the SMT ON vs OFF subject is really a big deal anymore. Seemed to be more of an issue having it ON in the past, but I don't think that is going to make much of a difference either way with your specs. I have the same GPU and a 7950x3D and we are both going to be pretty much GPU bound until DLSS or Vulkan. A lot of your questions will just come down to what you prefer tbh. I currently run DCS 2 ways with my G2: 1. All settings high/ultra, unlocked motion reprojection, nothing else going in in OpenXR toolkit. I can even bump MSAA up to 4x in this situation to be honest. 2. Following this user's settings at I haven't decided yet which one I prefer but both options have good performance with high hardware specs. A lot of your questions will kinda just boil down to what you like the look of better. Congrats on the 4090.

Using the native OpenXR? I believe this is a reported bug. I am using the original OpenComposite method still because of this. -

Interesting read. So if I understand correctly, you've settled on running the MT version with the 7950x3D working stock (no manual core assignments, game bar on, etc etc)? I noticed a reference to something about core parking via the registry? -

Are you opposed to motion reprojection? I can’t stomach anything under 90fps and, to be honest, the unlocked motion reprojection available with openxr toolkit is fantastic. I have all settings on high or ultra as well as msaa x2 and everything is smooth. I have the g2 as well and don’t have any issues with artifacts or the screens looking funny due to motion reprojection. -

Yeah, so I just fired both executables up in 2D and confirmed what you're saying. Despite both of them definitely having "this is a game" checked in the game bar, it appears the MT launcher is not parking cores. Which basically renders my whole "benchmark" moot lol I went back to the original launcher last night anyway. We are GPU bound at this point so I'm not going to tinker with much until DLSS or Vulkan becomes a thing. -

The v-cache performance is still better but only marginally so in terms of average FPS. FRAPS doesn’t allow me to benchmark things like the 1% lows so that could be a bigger improvement but overall if you’re on a 7000x3D series CPU you’ll want to use the v-cache cores I have everything high with unlocked motion reprojection as well but never thought to try and upscale… I may have to give that a go Are you using the reverb G2 as well? If so I will copy your render resolution first. -

I am wondering if we have just hit a wall in terms of CPU performance with the 5800x3D and now the new Ryzen 9 x3D chips. I am seeing the same results as you with the 3-4ms range with high settings so maybe higher end hardware just isn't going to see as much benefit from the multithreading update as some of the lower hardware specs. I am a little disappointed that the 4090 can't get under 10ms. -

It is a little disappointing to not be able to hit that sweet, sweet 90 fps with maxed settings yet I can do it in IL-2 and it is a fantastic experience. Hopefully when Vulkan or some kind of DLSS in VR becomes available, that will be the last little boost people need. I really don't want to buy any new hardware for a long time if possible. -
I can also confirm that I am now GPU bound (with a 4090) while my CPU (7950x3D) is performing in the 3-4ms range in initial testing in low level Persian Gulf flights. So it's a great update overall but still sucks for the golden goose that is 90fps without any settings concessions.

That is really odd that the game bar setting isn't working out for you! I know that I had to do it twice on one of my other games before it actually "stuck" and I could verify that game bar was seeing it as a game. On the other note, it certainly does seem that the CPU is no longer the problem! We can all now be GPU bound now and struggle with that -
What VR headset do you have? If you are locking the Reverb G2 to 60hz, you can experience flickering. Also, Turbo Mode is experimental and an as-is feature. I'll repeat my prior post that you might want to give motion reprojection (unlocked) via the OpenXR Toolkit a chance. With high settings + MSAA, DCS is smooth and looks good. https://mbucchia.github.io/OpenXR-Toolkit/other-features#turbo-mode

[FIXED] VR MT Can't run any missions
DirtyMike0330 replied to prestonflying's topic in Virtual Reality
Did you do the standard method of: repair/clean and deleting of fxo and shaders in saved games when you updated? -
Basically if it is an application/game that you want to only use the v-cache cores, you check the box that says remember this is a game and then restart the game/app. On the next start, the correct cores should be getting used by your CPU. You can confirm that via Windows resource monitor or (my preference) MSI Afterburner/Rivatuner for the on screen display. On my post here you can see the on screen display indicating that the v-cache cores are being used for DCS and the other cores are parked.

This is a fantastic video on it:

You're going to see stuttering or ghosting to the right and left if you can't maintain 90fps. Use OpenXR Toolkit and enable unlocked Motion Reprojection. If you can hit 70 fps than you can surely maintain 45fps with MR and crank your settings up! There are a lot of posts regarding VR tweaking - nobody is going to hit 90 fps right now without motion reprojection (unless you have a low res headset and kill all your graphics settings... which at that point why not just fly 2D?)
-
I confirmed that core parking is working with the new MT patch. I did have to open game bar and manually check "remember this is a game" for the new launcher.

I haven't done testing before so I threw together what I could using FRAPS and running the same low-level path in the Persian Gulf Instant Action Free Flight. This was in the Hornet module. On every run I turned in, hit the deck and took the same route through the initial big city. Benchmarks ran for 3 minutes each time. The attached picture has my settings. The only settings changed during testing were shadows, clouds, MSAA and will be mentioned below. The CPU was rocking during these tests and held the 3ms range admirably. I saw a spike to 4ish in the heart of the city but it was in the 3ms range for the most post. Unfortunately, the GPU wasn't getting sub-10ms until I was out of the city or away from a lot of ground objects. It stayed mostly in the 12-15ms range.

Do you have SMT disabled? I just disabled it and it seems to break the core parking in gaming Edit: Actually, that only seems to happen in Warzone for some reason (all 16 cores get utilized instead of just 1-8). I tried two other games and they are parking 8-16 as required.
