Unofficial mod not working since the last update
Captain Chuck replied to waliburnsilenzio's topic in DCS Modding
EDIT: I think SkateZilla is just using the ED Updater right? So it's prolly got nothing to do with you. I think your DCS Updater is still linking to my C Drive. Is there an option in its settings to change that... I couldn't find one. -
Unofficial mod not working since the last update

OK if you want to look at it that way. Then it's a Windows problem if Windows is not directing DCS or any software to the default Saved Games folder in the drive of the consumer's choice. -

Yeah the saved games folder was originally moved with the correct method you describe here, however, it was taken out of one PC and installed in the new PC.........and there was another saved games folder on the new PC Drive C with nothing in it. ED was confused by that I guess. But this is not the first time a software has ignored the orders and placed things it shouldn't on Drive C after a correctly done default relocation to Drive D. Crap just seems to appear in Drive C over time. Anyway, I've since straightened all this out and there is 100% no Saved Games folder or anything ED related on my C Drive now. Drive D saved games is the Default. And Drive E is Default for New Apps. I'm trying to keep Drive C so that there won't be anything besides the OS on it that is important to me and that I don't care if I ever lose. -

Actually, it was ED (and/or possibly Windows itself having some blame) and I know this because DCS was not downloaded into this PC, it was entirely located on my D Drive from another PC and then physically hand placed into a brand new PC with a virgin Windows OS on a virgin M.2 stick by a professional computer tech and it was working perfectly till the update. There was nothing on Drive C connecting it to DCS. There should not have been a DCS folder installed on Drive C anywhere. It was likely as far as I can figure, put there by ED installer without asking me where I wanted it first because the installer was not programed to ask first, I think. And I think that is what happened- because that is how all my HOTAS mappings disappeared after the Update. -
Unofficial mod not working since the last update

UPDATE: I restarted PC and it hasn't crashed on MP since. I also put back or undid some the folder shuffling around I did because it turned out I had my HOTAS mappings in there somewhere. I've given up on getting the A-4 to work. I'll wait at least until ED does something about the new things they broke in the last update. Maybe this nag screen will go away too. null -

Yes I do have the Super Carrier. Something else has happened ...with all this messing with files DCS just now started crashing on startup. I'm running a slow repair right now. -

No that wasn't it either. In the DCS Installed modules I noticed that there is a selector to turn on and off each aircraft ....I didn't have the A-4E selected. So now at least the A-4E shows up in my DCS lineup as installed and that popup is gone but I still can't select and fly the A-4E in any missions and Instant Action And there is another problem I didn't yet mention. Though I just bought the 9 dollar update for FC3, every time I startup DCS a nag screen tells me to download it.. and something else "a/c Jet 1" again. a/c? aircraft? Don't know it it's relate3d -

There is an empty Saved game folder still in the C Drive. And then I found another also on the C Drive - Users - Default - Saved Games ....... Maybe I should delete those? Oh I also found one in the bin-mt folder for some reason. I deleted that one -

I guess that wasn't the problem. Now I get this popup. I have moved Saved Games folder to my D Drive btw ......where DCS is. All the A4E folders and files are there in Saved Games on D Drive. Maybe DCS is still looking on Drive C for Saved Games. If so how do I direct DCS to the right place. Btw.......A-4E was not working when they were in Saved Games C Drive either..... but I was not getting this popup either. On my past PC I successfully moved Saved Games folder to the D Drive with no problems. null -
The thing is I set Windows to make my E Drive the default so things are going to get messy. I think I am supposed to eventually delete the entire Saved Games folder in C. This is a new PC I have so I am still setting it up. Rather slowly.

I'll try the same. I just have to find the install files. I dont remember where I got them from. -
OK I figured out what happened. Somehow the update put files on Drive C though I have the DCS Sim on Drive D. So DCS is using the files in Saved Games on Drive C insteard of D. I copied the Mission files from the Saved Gamed folder in Drive D to the Saved Games folder in Drive C..........and they now appear in DCS as they should. I'll figure out how to get everything onto the D Drive later. Thanks

All of my Maps are active and working, though! So back to square one I guess.

I actually found that they are already in my Saved Games folder as Miz files but they don't appear in My Missions.... if I actually want to load one and fly it.

Does this apply to the third party A-4E mod and the Su-30? Both of those have disappeared from my list of available aircraft. -
My mission files have all disappeared since the recent big update. At least I think that's when they disappeared. They are not in the folder when I go to My Missions, and I must have had about 30 of them. Perhaps they were misplaced when I placed the M.2 drive which DCS is on into my new PC. I'm not 100 % sure because both the update and the new PC came close together for me. I must still have them somewhere. How do I find them and where do I put them?

Does anyone else see bogies sometimes as either white or pale green dots in the sky? I don't know if it is in my settings or what. I'm flying on the Normandy Map on the Project Overlord WWII server. What's up with that?

Advice for New PC Needed
Captain Chuck replied to Captain Chuck's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The cost of a 4070 Super, in my particular case, would cost me about US$120 more to the cost of the entire build. I've already checked with him. Apparently, he suggested the 4070 regular to me because he has a number of them in stock that he bought earlier a discounted price that he could pass on. In any case, I'm not trying to build the town's best PC here, I am just trying to minimize the mistakes. To put things into perspective....My current rig is a broken 17" laptop with a GTX 1660 ti in it, and I was always in WWII Multiplayer with it.....getting shot down mostly! -

Thanks so much for that. Due to my particular circumstances a 27" Monitor is as large as I can go. In fact, I originally thought that I would use a 24" Monitor. But 24" is hard to find around here in 1440. Don't forget, I have been using only a 17" laptop for DCS now for at least 8 years. I don't know what kind of shock a 27" will cause me to go into when I eventually get this rig put together. -

I think I'm just gonna do like Luc suggested earlier and stop overthinking this and go with the original build. Now, I'm going to look at some mid range 1440 monitors. ... and a monitor arm to hold it long enough to reach my position. I won't be facing a desk. My chair faces parralel to a bench on my right that will have a monitor arm attached to it so that the monitor will swing out backwards from the mount to face me. I can just push it aside when I get up. The Mrs is gonna freak when she sees this setup. I'll just tell her she's lucky it's not a VR rig. -

This is build another offered: What do you all think about this compared the original in my first post? Does this motherboard have enough M.2 slots? I'm hoping for 3. Is this one just too low on VRAM. I don't do VR but I do Multipayer servers.
