  1. As far as central trimmer goes I realised a couple of weeks ago that the default ffb friendly option is way better for me. I thought the fact that mode "doubles up" as you hit force trim would be really bad, but it seems you get a short while to centre before that happens. Now I don't have to put up with the occasional disaster of inputs being ignored because I was busy and didn't centre properly after force trim.
  2. Reading the discussion here I think the "one trick pony" comment could simply be taken a little too literally. It's not like the 3D can't do a decent job of non VR stuff, its just not its strength and there are better and even cheaper alternatives which excel at certain other tasks. I also took it a bit too literally. To me a one trick pony is absolutely useless at anything else, not just worse in comparison. I know what you mean though @Hiob
  3. For anyone still on the fence. There are rumours of a 5900X3D
  4. One worked, the other I seem to recall the Heli didn't wait for my comms to go. I'd have to test that, not done them much. Need to try the final again too, got a "success" but sammed into the side of a mountain
  5. I think it's probably not a coincidence the original Apache version seemed to work first time. It's probably been tweaked since release. Just finished Royal Hammer now tho and enjoyed the non support stuff
  6. I thought I'd try the Georgian Hammer Apache mod this is based off I think? Went to one of the missions where you support an advance and sure enough, it was the first time I'd ever had the messages about them reaching the first one and awaiting orders. I could see them advancing on the F1 map. Something seems off with the Royal Hammer version unfortunately. They seem to always be stationary and not reaching the points. I'm deep into that and basically have to skip all the support missions after giving them a go and maybe getting a draw.
  7. What cooling are you using?
  8. Thanks, it might be interesting for others but don't go to any big effort for me. I haven't decided if I'm upgrading yet and don't even have VR! What you've said would be enough to convince me to spend the extra on the X3D as I will inevitably try VR eventually, however, what puts me off a bit is that I've heard it runs quite a lot hotter than the 5900 so would probably cost more for better cooling also.
  9. I'd like to see DCS VR and non VR on both the X3D and the 5900x as the latter is cheaper and needs less cooling.
  10. Mostly the problem has been the escort to two waypoints yes. I can get them to move to the first but then I've never seen an advance to the 2nd. This is in 2 or 3 different escort missions. I did have an issue also where supporting another heli go somewhere, I didn't give the order but they went anyway and died, which was weird. I'm up to about mission 11 now I think and everything else is great. Yes I wasn't using the support flights right early on but then figured it out. The last time I made a point of checking why the group wasn't moving and I don't know if it was coincidence or not but one had crossed a bridge and the rest were still the other side. I've also noticed that I can load up on hellfire, make almost every shot count, but still need to go and rearm again to finish off in a few of the missions. I don't know what that is, again I'm fairly new to all this since the Apache released so I might be missing something. Thanks.
  11. Ah ok yeah maybe that's it, although I didn't ask them to advance until I thought it was safe. Loving the campaign. Just a few missions seem to be write offs unless I'm just crap
  12. I'm tempted to do the same because in the UK the 5900x is about 100 less and I think I'd need to buy more expensive cooling for the X3D.
  13. As far as I can see there is Comms for advance to Utah only. It stays that way. I had to go back and rearm to stand any chance of taking on the further north tanks. I'm enjoying the mission so will keep trying but I've never seen an option to advance to the next WP4. I forget the name. Alabama maybe. Update: Maybe I'm just not very good but I've done this mission (6-1) about 8 times now and at some point the advance always stops dead. I'd need to load up fully on hellfires 2 or more times to take everything out with just the two Apache. Assuming red forces still existing is the reason the advance starts but then stops.
  14. I'll have another look myself. I think they advanced but then stop short of the WP in the built up area before the runway. Enjoying the campaign! Update: I assume there are triggers to destroy certain enemy before the advance can happen. On mission 6 I can tell them to advance to utah but they wont go to the next one. There are still targets at the second one so I guess the radio options will change if/when I can take out the 2nd batch of tanks.
  15. In the (maybe 2nd) mission where you support some tanks and apcs reaching texas, has anyone found the tanks just dont advance even when there doesn't seem to be any enemy? I've done it about 5 times now. Not sure what I'm missing. Thanks. Update: I just skipped it. Missions after that seem to be working better so far.
  16. I asked exactly that sort of thing because of my springless dampened VKB EVO in discord. I think generally speaking the view was that I could just not bother with force trim but I would technically not be doing it the way its designed. Perhaps it would have an undesired effect on stability authority but thats over my head. That said, how can you unless you have a no longer produced or very expensive force feedback. Most peoples set ups are a compromise compared to the real thing ofcourse. I went back to springs because I find it easier to be honest and centre trimming works fine (recent patch flight instability aside). "Nudging" the controls and having them return works better for me. If you force trimmed in a real apache I think you would then have even linear magnetic force in all directions from that new "centre". So I would argue using springs and the centre trimming is actually nearer to that compared to a stick which stays where you put it but with no even and increasing resistance from that new location. Unless you held force trim every time you moved. Maybe that is the correct way I don't know. Marketing sticks with the option to go springless and dampened as being "just like a helicopter" is debatable from what I understand now. Depends on which helicopter. I dont mind though as I wanted a VKB NXT anyway, just so happened the EVO replaced it.
  17. I found my frame rate tanked when things kicked off in mission 3 sadly. Not had that in any other missions yet, but they've just been smaller none campaign. To the point I couldn't fly it. Not sure if it's a particular setting which makes that likely with so many targets and fire going on.
  18. The issues are still there but for me for some reason it's not quite as bad. Still a constant fight against it but I can get near the ground without ploughing into it wrestling the controls. I feel like they've decided it was a bit too easy and made it harder to tame. I didn't do a repair. I am trying different axis tuning though and new pedals. I used to be able to handle night mission evasive moves but now that's a serious challenge. Feels like it needs repeating for some here, we're not talking about flying technique/skills. This is about the view that it got relatively harder with 2.7.14.
  19. Maybe its me imagining things but I thought, even though the patch released today doesn't mention anything about this I'll give it a try as they are probably still working on it. First test flight just now I didnt get a long warning in 5 mins and landed twice where I wanted to. Too early to say but I'd be interested if anyone thinks it's improved a little.
  20. If anyone wants to see quite how drastic it is (or isnt) for them. You can revert to the previous one. (copy your savedgames dcs folder first. this is at your own risk.) (open a command prompt) cmd cd d:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\bin> (or whereever you installed the game) dcs_updater.exe update 2.7.12@openbeta Then say no to updating if it asks when you start. When you want to return to the latest for testing you just allow it to update on starting, or run the DCS updater.
  21. Yeah. Really struggling here. Night and day for stability etc for all the reasons discussed. I appreciate the advice but most of it is stuff the majority of us already knew. This is about a distinct change between patches. if I revert I'm fully in control and enjoying missions. Let it update I'm rocking all over like a boat in choppy waters and not helped by the new iteration of att hold.
  22. I've just received the Virpil Ace Torq Pedals so will see how they help Was using the paddles on a TWCS before.
  23. Agreed with everything you said except for me the ATT Hold before this patch made a world of difference. I think it just happened to correct in the places I needed it. When I found it I went from all over the place at low level forever clipping the blades to a new found ability to put her down anywhere no trouble. That's what I've lost now. I wasn't bothered that it couldn't do a 0 speed positional hold (although thats cool). I used to be able to slow down a bit, whack att hold on and safe enough to do TSD work etc. Now it feels its all too sensitive and easy to disengage. I'll play with curves and my control and no doubt get it but it was a big change to its ease of use.
  24. Thanks I will keep that in mind when trying more. Yes I'm always playing with curves and saturation etc. I had it dialled in nicely until now. The fact is I found the previous att hold really useful and this one is not helping me. That might just be because of my current flying style which might be wrong but it was quite the dramatic change between versions. I'm forcing myself to not revert at the moment but its hard as flight was easier and att hold was great then. I never really felt the need for perfect hovers so it worked very well for me as it disengaged less often. Now not only does it disengage a lot, I get beeped at when I'm not even using hold modes. Had I not modded the sound I couldn't bare it.
  25. I'm fairly sure hold modes should permit cyclic etc without disengaging as much as it is currently. When I revert to the previous patch att hold is reliable and really useful when combined with a semi stable trim. Now it disengages a lot.
