You should be able to lock both search targets and tracked targets if they are on your FCR but for some reason this isn't the case in DCS and we are waiting for a White Paper to explain why this is Correct as is

Thx.  I did see mention of an impending "white paper."  I hope it turns out that this will be changed because it's not a very intuitive way of managing radar contacts imo.

  2. Hi all,

Just wondering what's going on with the bricks when using RWS in a BVR engagement.  At a certain point (somewhere around 45 nm for a co-altitude MiG29 heading directly at me for instance), I get a search target brick like in the attached pic. null

My understanding is that at a certain point, as the track file is built, that there should be a visual cue represented by a chance in color/size of the brick in order to bring it to the pilot's attention that the search target is now a track target and they should be able to bug it at that point.

What I'm seeing instead is a brick that never changes color or size that I'm suddenly able to lock, but only after TMS up'ing multiple times and allowing it to get within roughly 37 nm (again in the instance that same MiG).

Is this now considered "correct as is," or will it be changing sometime soon?

    Thx.

Well, I have a WheelStandPro Warthog setup with my joystick stuck right in between my thighs and my chair right up against the aft frame so my knees are at a comfortable 90 degree angle. Why you all stretched out? You normally wouldnt have leg room in a tiny cockpit like a helicopter or a military aircraft. An airliner, YES. Anything smaller than a CRJ 200 will start getting cramped up front. Im picturing you driving through downtown Dallas with the seat rest all the way down...

My apologies, I meant 90 degrees.

You could get the combat pedal set instead of the full foot pad included in the crosswinds kit. I placed mine in the full upright position and it felt like using the gas and brake pedal in my car...but less distance to travel.

Unfortunately, I'm already using the combat pedals.  What angle is your knee when using the toe brakes?  Mine's around 45 degrees and I feel like to apply full brakes, my calves are having to flex way too much, making it very uncomfortable to hold the brakes down for any length of time.  I'd estimate the travel is about double of my saitek combat pedals, which I've had for like 12 yrs.  I only got the Crosswinds because I was getting a little knee pain from Apache'ing so much.

  5. Thanks for all the comments.  I ended up getting the Crosswinds and as rudder pedals they are exactly what I was looking for.  My problem now is that I find the travel of the toe brakes is about twice longer than I'm used to and pretty uncomfortable when taxiing.  Is this at all adjustable?

MFG Crosswinds will be worth a look.

They have a centre tensioning spring that can easily be removed to adapt them for helicopter flying and they are solidly put together.

Are you saying that you can basically adjust the force required to get full deflection to almost zero?  I don't see the ability to remove the spring  mentioned in this video. thx.

  7. Hey Guys,

Just looking for some input as to what are the best pedals to use with the Apache considering I'm using Saitek Combat pedals now and they are a little rough on these middle-aged knees.  Anything really solidly built with very little force required?  I looked into a Virpil set that was recommended to me (spring can be removed) but 53 cm is a bit wider than I'd like (but if they're good enough, I can prob get it to work).  Thx.

  8. In a PvE environment I've noticed that using the jammer all but guarantees your radar won't support any locks for very long, often dropping lock before your slammer can go active.  I really don't see the point of using it in a BVR engagement as its currently modeled.  Of course I might be missing something and if that's the case, I'd love to know how the jammer can be of use.

When things like this are added, do they typically update the manual?  I'm really not complaining here; I'm usually excited to see new features and toys - I just feel like unless Wags makes a video, we have to figure some of these things out for ourselves.

I really appreciate the DCS community going out and testing these things.  You guys are much more patient than I am.

I asked nineline about this last night on discord and he said they’re working on updating it as far as he knows.  Totally agree that with the amount of new features,  letting the manual go by the wayside since October really isn’t acceptable.

Maybe I missed something but isn't that accurate and also working like this since the release of the A-10C 10 years or so ago?

exactly, isn't that working incorrectly? Should give only bearings...

"A/A T/R. TACAN operates in Air-to-Air transceiver mode and provides bearing, range, deviation, and station identification with a TACAN-equipped aircraft."

  11. Hi Guys,

Was just wondering what the purpose of having 5 numbered ECM buttons is.  Does each cover a certain range of frequencies?  Is there any advantage to not energizing all of their corresponding modules?  Any info would be much appreciated.  Merry Christmas!
