X850 Pro Fan only at 67% max?
walternowi replied to Jetfire's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Look under Hardware->Overclocking Settings..., and click on the fan tab. Select the "Manual Speed" button, and then modify your fan speed percentage in relationship to GPU temperature. By the way, I am using version 1.03.755, yours might be a little different. Hope this helps. Nowi -
X850 Pro Fan only at 67% max?
walternowi replied to Jetfire's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You can try ATI Tray Tool. http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=733 You can set a profile to change the fan speed with GPU temperature. Your temperature looks fine. There is nothing to worry about. Nowi -
I've tried gunzo with the Su-27 against F-5, F-4, F-14, F-16, F-18 and Mirage 2000. IMHO, the Mirage 2000 is the toughest. If I get too aggressive and bleed my energy too soon, I got nailed. I have too try against the F-15 some time and see how it goes. Also, in gunzo for the Flanker, never carry more than 60% fuel (~ 5 tons).

What is the best joystick for LOMAC
walternowi replied to BigT's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
CH Products gears are the most reliable. My gameport setup (Fighterstick, Pro Throttle and Rudder) lasted 6 years and was still going strong. Because Windows XP not longer supports programming through the PS port, I retired them and upgraded to the USB setup. I owned a few Thrustmaster FCS and Pro FCS in the past, but none lasted more than 2 years. Just my 2 cents. -
What Ironhand did was to increase the distance that the AIM-120 has to travel to reach him, thus depleting its energy (it slows down as a result of drag), while still maintaining lock to guide his missile. He shot two missiles, one at maximum range and the other about 15 seconds later. The first one has very little chance of getting a kill, but he did this to force the bandit into a defensive posture. The second one has a much higher Pk (Probability of Kill). To evade the AIM-120, look at the RWR at the bottom right hand side of the cockpit. Maneuver to put the red circle light (the missile) about 30 degrees off your nose. Keep the speed up. Wait until the signal strength is about 4 - 5 ticks from the maximum. Bank towards the missile. When the signal strength reaches about 1 - 2 ticks from the maximum, pull to perform an orthogonal roll. Dispense chaffs rapidly (There is no point in saving them if you are going down). The key to getting proficient is practice. I remembered after I watched Ironhand's missile evasion tutorial, I had to practice 20 - 30 times before I get the hang of it. Also, since you are just starting, don't try to go against F-15s. Try against Mig-23s, F-5s or F-4s. Focus on one thing at a time, either F-pole or missile evasion. Hope this helps. Nowi

I don't know about "dynamic", but ATI Tray Tool can overclock/underclock. It can also control fan speed based on GPU temperature. Hope this helps. Nowi

How about using ATI Tray Tool to set AA, AF, etc. instead of ATI Tool? Would that help? Nowi

First click Windows XP Drivers and Software, then get the 11.7 MB Display Driver only here: https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=293 That is 6.2 without CCC. Nowi

Yeah, the 7800GT is the best bang for the buck at the moment. However, for absolute performance, ATI 1900XT (XTX) is king. Seriously, just try to use the display driver only (without CCC), with ATI Tool or ATI Tray Tool. Also, get Catalyst 6.2. This seems to be better than 6.1. :) Nowi

Intel is nice if your room is cold. The heat generated by the processor warms up the room nicely.

slewing view with CH pro throttle/fighterstick?
walternowi replied to a topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I used the following script to control the mini stick on my pro throttle. script CMS.B1 = [JS2.A1 < 63]; // Mini-stick left CMS.B2 = [JS2.A1 > 192]; // Mini-stick right CMS.B3 = [JS2.A2 < 63]; // Mini-stick up CMS.B4 = [JS2.A2 > 192]; // Mini-stick down endScript JS2 corresponds to the Pro Throttle. A1 and A2 are the horizontal axis and the vertical axis for the PT respectively. Within the CH Control Manager, under the CMS controls tab, define the action for CMS.B1 to CMS.B4. Say, you want mini stick down to look up, set CMS.B4 to the KP2 key. If you give me your email address via private messages, I can send my Flaming Cliffs map files to you so you can go from there. Also, the forum at http://www.ch-hangar.com is a great place to ask questions. Hope this helps. Nowi -

An alternative to the Athlon64 X2 processors are the socket 939 Opteron 165 (1.8 GHz) and Opteron 170 (2.0 GHz) dual core processors. Both have a 1 MB L2 Cache and both are greater overclockers (> 2.6 GHz at or close to stock voltage). Prices are very competitive relative to the X2 processors. Cheers, Nowi

Performance Comparison of Aircrafts
walternowi replied to walternowi's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
britgliderpilot, Roger that. However, after a hard day's work, it is very satisfying to gun down an opponent :P As for IL Compare, it is a utility that compares performance of aircrafts modeled. It compares turn rate, climb performance and top speed, etc. Attached is a screenshot that compares the Bf-109G-2 against the Spitfire Mark VB. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c323/walternowi/ILCompare2.jpg Cheers and have a Happy New Year! Performance Comparison of Aircrafts
walternowi replied to walternowi's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Kula & Gazehound, Thank you for your responses. I already have the links that you kind souls provided. I am looking for something like IL Compare that was developed for Forgotten Battles/Pacific Fighters. Cheers and have a Happy New Year! Nowi -
Can any kind soul tell me where to find performance comparison charts for the aircrafts modeled in Lock On? I would like to find charts such as the turn rate VS airspeed curve to better myself in guns only fights. Thanks in advance. Nowi :)
