  1. I recently got around to buying the FC upgrade and found my self wanting a good quality keyboard layout based on a US keyboard, which I haven't been able to find. So, I decided to create one, based on Tomas Friberg's excellent FC layout including the extra info on RWR symbols. I have uploaded it to LockOnFiles if you're interested: http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=97&lid=978&title=Lock%20On%20Flaming%20Cliffs%20US%20Keyboard%20Layout#dldetails ----------------- Update: rev.1 released: - Renamed zip container to clarify this layout is for Flaming Cliffs - Renamed pdf to match zip container name - Versioned release - Fixed "Rejoin form" key (s/b Alt+[, not Alt+]) - Renamed "Tight form tgl" key (Shft+]) "Toggle form" Should be appearing on LockOnFiles soon, but if you don't want to wait, you can grab it here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?automodule=downloads&showfile=5173
  2. heh - my wife will *never* understand. I got stoked by TekaTeka's Structures Visibility mod and decided it was time to upgrade from Lomac 1.02. Gotta brush up a bit before I go online MP. Haven't been in the saddle for quite a while and am probably darn rusty. I would be easy to get behind in a guns turning fight, but once you're on my tail, I could still probably take you for a good ride trying to line me up. See you on Hyper Lobby when I'm ready to go. ;)
  3. NM - CD arrived today. Shipped on August 14 from Cambridge, England.
  4. w00 h00! CD arrived today. Shipped on August 14 from Cambridge, England.
  5. Well, since this post appears to have been utterly ignored by ED in the Payment Issues forum, I have decided to cross-post here and extend this question to anyone who has ordered (and received) the CD version of Flaming Cliffs from the ED E-shop/PROTX: How long did it take to receive your CD after your order was processed? Where are you located? Mine was processed August 13 and I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I am trying to get an idea of when I should start watching my mailbox. Thanks in advance.
  6. Hi, I purchased the CD version of Flaming Cliffs on Monday, August 13 from your E-shop/PROTX and was happy to see the order was processed, sent and updated on my Transactions History within 8 1/2 hours - good work, ED! I am curious to know though, where is the CD is being shipped from, how is it being shipped and when should I expect it to arrive here in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada? Thanks in advance. p.s. My nickname on lomac.co.uk is yllekm.
  7. Hey Souless, I'm with ya, brother: http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?t=11004
  8. I am dealing with it, the only way a consumer can - I am voting with my pocket book by not buying. ;)
  9. It works all right, as long as the Gods of Computing are smiling down on you at 2:00 AM on Saturday morning: http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?p=112243#post112243
  10. Well, they're not SELLING their product to me, with crappy pop-ups and frame rates and a DRACONIAN copy protection system. Sure it works, if you do it right. But we all know about the Gods of Computing (you know, sacrifice a few vestal virgins, light a black candle, spread some chicken blood around and hope that your install works, that all your drivers are compatible, that something isn't messed up in your registry, that there aren't some lurking corrupted bits on your HDD...). ALL of us have had problems installing products, having to reconfigure hardware, doing a late night Winblows reinstall cuz we were dumbasses and messed up our system trying to tweak it, etc. Doo-doo happens, and the last thing I want at 2:00 AM Saturday morning is a product that won't register itself, whether it be running out of serials (yeah, I know about the registry backup thing - doesn't help if you've reconfigured your hardware though), coughing on some bug that won't allow it to recognize a valid installation key or whatever (see Gods of Computing above). And don't even get me started on the stutters introduced by Starforce because its paranoid little self needs to keep checking to ensure my CD is in the right place. The bottom line is, I have been a Flanker cheer leader for years, until FC, and now...well, I think you know how I feel. If they want to SELL their product, they gotta IMPROVE their product, else I'm not buying, this one OR Black Shark. p.s. I know Igor is not my *dude*. He can choose to read this or not.
  11. I would agree with you if I *was* flaming, but I'm not. I am a long time ED customer who is trying to send a message to the developer about what they should do to improve their product so that I will remain a long time customer. If they want to sell more product (so that they can keep developing their product), then they ought to start listening to their long time customers that have helped them build this product. I am not the only one here unhappy about the graphics issues and, ugh!, STARFORCE!
  12. Have a look here: http://forum.lockon.ru/showthread.php?p=112230#post112230
  13. I sure hope Igor Tishin reads this! Bwhahahahaha!!!! I had completely forgotten about this thread. Been flying F4 AF for weeks now and LOVING it! No, the terrain isn't as nice as LOMAC/FC, BUT there ain't no pop-ups, my frame rate is great and, MOST importantly I am getting the immersion fix I need to keep me coming back. Heh - and even better, NO friggin' Starforce to deal with on their CD and they're selling tons of their product (so much for the logic that you must copy protect the hell out of your product to protect sales). :P I don't get it, ED - you're product has so much potential but you ignore obvious problems with it (see above for my graphics beefs) AND you gotta go mess up your CD version with Starforce. Igor Tishin says Starforce is necessary for the download version - why does this blight on honest customers have to be imposed on the CD too? I have bought every ED product since Flanker, until FC. I won't be buying FC and won't by one more byte of code from them until they start listening to their customers. Buh-bye! KaBoNG aka "Falcon Fan Boy" (now, anyway)
  14. okay peeps, just for the record... I ain't no hateboi (and I haven't a clue who Bard is). I ain't no Falcon fanboy either. I have bought every version of the Flanker series and always flew them as my first preference sim. I've clocked tons more hours in a Sue than the Falcon. Yeah, the F4 graphics are not state-of-the-art, but the friggin' pop-ups and crappo frame rates in LOMAC aren't what I would call state-of-the-art either. Whether you are on low approach to a city target or wasting a convoy with cluster bombs or flying a mission with heavy weather, there are many times when flying LOMAC that my shoulders sag and I have to sigh in disappointment of what this version of the series *could* have been. If the developers had any intention of fixing such obvious problems, I expect they would have done it for 1.1, but that hasn't happened and I'm not holding my breath any longer. There were many posts about these issues on the Ubisoft forum and several here as well. God only knows why the message never seemed to arrive. I don't care how fancy the graphics are, if the framerate isn't reasonably (i.e. at least 20 fps+ at all times) smooth and I have to continually contend with object pop-ups, there is *NO* sense of immersion for me. I gotta look elsewhere for my combat sim fix. FA AF may not be it, but that doesn't change the fact that ED isn't getting any money from me for LOMAC 1.1. p.s. And don't blame it on my hardware, look at Jason's above - he is still contending with sub-20 fps performance using some damn spiffy silicon.
  15. My rig is not exactly "way back" - P4 3GHZ, BFG 6800GT OC, 1 GB RAM - which makes the pop-ups and p00py frame rate all the more maddening. Yeah, the buildings in F4 may not be pretty, but at least they're there all the time and the new upgrade will improve things. Like I said, I won't be buying Lockon 1.1.
  16. Which is precisely why I will not be buying FC. Framerates still suck and the developers have ignored several comments/complaints from users about the pop-up problem which first appeared in v1.02. It astounds me that they (apparently) think this isn't important. For me (and I'm sure many others), having several building simply appear out of nowhere when inbound to city targets blows the suspension of disbelief completely out of the water. This is a simulation - it is supposed to have a high degree of reality. Buildings don't just appear in real life and they shouldn't here (or at least go back to the v1.00/v1.01 method of fading them in). I've decided that the real solution to this problem will arrive in June, in the form of Falcon 4.0: Allied Force. cya ED
  17. Bumparooni! (for pop-ups - GIVE US A FADE-IN OPTION IN V1.1!!) :D
  18. Fixes in the demo patch? Anyone got a list?
  19. bumpalicious (for pop-ups - any response ED?)
  20. Nate--IRL--: Thanks for your suggestion but this is not a fix (some objects still pop up and horsey needed to run it). Why can't ED just go back to the old fade in method in v1.00/v1.01 or at least give us an option to render this way???
  21. Actually, my plan was to have fun w 1.01, since 1.02 messed up ground object drawing, and...ED doesn't get what they want, a sale of their upgrade to me (and quite a few other users, judging from the backlash here). toodles!
  22. hello? nomad? hello?... Firstly, it's a FREE DEMO. Why on God's earth is a CD/DVD checking driver necessary for a FREE DEMO? Secondly, it installs a driver without the user's knowledge and runs without the user's knowledge. I don't care if it's checking for an authentic CD/DVD or taking my CPU's temperature, it's a virus by another definition. Thirdly, more drivers = more chance of system problems. Ever wonder why they removed the copy protection from Half Life 2 or a raft of other games within weeks of release? Because the copy protection system was preventing paying customers from using their software the way the developer intended and/or was causing serious system conflicts. I don't care how much testing Starforce or anyone else puts into their drivers - you can't test for every configuration and inevitably someone somewhere will get stiffed by them. Fourthly, ever have one of those nights when you are doing a hardware upgrade that takes you umpteen attempts to get right? You know, you install the new hardware, start the system, fire up your favorite flightsim (i.e. LOMAC) and boom - CTD/lockup/BSOD, etc. So, you shut down, tweak/swap hardware/swap PCI slots/etc., re-boot, fire up, crash, repeat,... Well, with Starforce, you get the privilege of a whole new layer of frustration heaped on top. Every hardware change requires a new activation key and the number of new keys are limited (rumored to be 3 for LOMAC 1.1). Once you hit your limit, you have to go back to the developer for a new product serial. JUST the kind of frustration I want at 3:00 in the morning when I've been fighting with my system all night. Fifthly, and then there's the security problems reported with certain versions of StarForce. What's to say that some ingenius hacker won't find a way to back door one of the "fixed" versions? Even Microsoft, after releasing their much heralded SP2 security update for WinXP, is scambling to fix the multiple GAPING holes they left open in that fine piece of code! Ya, I've read about StarForce, and the more I've read, the less I like it. Why don't cha slide on over to gamecopyworld.com and take a look at where a "cracked" exe for v1.1 will be posted within hours of its release for every pirate on the Internet to download and use with an ill gotten copy of the game? Copy protection only hurts paying customers, period.
  23. Re: How many times have you installed LOMAC on your system? Don't you really mean, "How many times have you made system changes since buying LOMAC that would have triggered the stoopid StarForce protection coming on v1.1?" In my case, at least 1/2 dozen times - processor (once), RAM (twice), HDDs (twice), vid card (once), CD/DVD drive (once), the kitchen sink... Just say NO to StarForce! It only hurts paying customers. If ya don't believe, just slide on over to gamecopyworld.com (where a "cracked" v1.1 exe will probably show up within *hours* of the release).
  24. ruggbutt, LOMAN is what I was using when I spent all those days tweaking. Never found the right balance. Yes, I could push the pop-ups out, but they still popped up and the frame rate sucked even more. Why didn't ED just go back to the old way of drawing ground objects (i.e. fade in) and stop annoying "so many people"? p.s. Would you mind sharing the LOMAN settings you use to eliminate the pop-ups? That is, assuming you don't have an uber system - I only have a measily P4 3.0 GHz, 1024MB RAM and GeForce 6800GT OC.
  25. I had soooo hoped that ED would address this bug (or is it a performance enhancing "feature"?) in 1.1. I just can't stand coming in low on a ground attack and watching ground objects suddenly pop-up as I approach them. This first appeared in the v1.02 patch (presumably one of the performance enhancements). In v1.0 and 1.01, ground objects did a smooth fade in and the pop-up effect was far less noticeable. Yes, I have tried to tweak around this but after spending days at it on 1.02 and then reinstalling 1.01 and seeing the fade in, I was convinced I was wasting my time. It took me about 10 seconds to see that 1.1 behaves just like 1.02 in this respect. This absolutely destroys the immersion factor for me. If this is representative of the retail version of 1.1, I'll probably be spending my cash elsewhere. Oh wait, and hardware keyed Starforce protection too??? (not to mention Starforce in the demo - now that's just plain dumb)...I WILL be spending my cash elsewhere.
