I'd just like to bump this thread because it's still an issue and it's something I'd love to see get resolved. I can report that the issue exists even in Nvidia quad-SLI as I now have two GTX 590 cards but the performance takes a dive at 5760x1080 with every frame mode on.

Kuky, I didn't even have the chance to try doing strafing runs on people over and over as he made it sound. I had turned around and was doing a low pass. Everyone was on the ground, I was waiting for them to take off so I could follow someone to the targets. Before I could even fly past the planes on the ground I was kicked, then he kicked me non stop from that point on as if it was his life's dedication to do so. This specific mission had everyone start in the air with instructions to land, rearm, refuel, and then fly west. I had just as much time invested as everyone else. As I mentioned before if I was out to kill people I had 4 clusterbombs available. I also wasn't in a good position to strafe people anyways, EAC was turned on. Thanks man, I'll keep an eye out for your server.

Yes that's me (as mentioned somewhat in the OP). I've seen Null several times before in servers, I wouldn't see why he'd consider me an unknown person. Heck, he probably read some of my coverage at VE especially the interview with Wags not too long ago. I've been all about making sure that people know about DCS: A-10C Warthog, and have done as much as I can to support it. I do goof around sometimes yes, but by no means was I trying to teamkill anyone. He makes it sound like I was actively attacking people on the ground. The truth is I had just turned around after reading the briefing again and realizing that I had no clue how to get to the targets. It was literally the first "low" pass I was making towards the airfield, and absolutely no one on the ground was at risk of dying. I was kicked before I was even close to the A-10s. It just makes no sense. The real kicker though is how he happily spent the next 20 minutes or so kicking me, even after my client crashed 3 times during reconnects. Aren't we adults here? It's not like I was capable of jumping right back in and griefing people if that's something I was actually doing. He could have acted like a mature adult and said "listen man, here's why you were kicked I don't want you on my server." Getting back to the whole point of my rant though anyone that hosts a server has a responsibility to act as an ambassador of sorts for the DCS community. Null's server was up for over 6 hours and was nearly full when I saw it indicating to me it'd be a good server to join if I wanted interact with more people. He has a responsibility to protect the players in his server sure, but he had equal responsibility to represent the community's standards if he actually suspected that I was going off the acceptable path. Again, I caused zero damage to the other players, and had just as much time invested as them in landing, rearming, and refueling. If someone was complaining to him that I had gone and carpet bombed everyone over and over again I could understand some aggressive admin behavior. That wasn't the case. I spent a chunk of time (nearly a half hour) following the mission guidelines just like everyone else. I wasn't trying to ruin anyone's night, but he saw fit to ruin mine. I've seen trigger happy admins before, and given his attack against me in this forum he's the absolute definition. New blood won't put up with it, I can tell you that. Lose the new blood and you're stuck with the old timers who can only sustain a community for so long. New players are bound and even the most likely to make mistakes, but they need to be guided not blacklisted.

You're absolutely full of it. I was making a low pass in the direction of another player, but I was not attempting to teamkill anyone. Occasionally I will goof around and shoot a significant distance away from a player, yes. You're making it sound like I went off an attacked players. If I had wanted to teamkill people I had four clusterbombs loaded, and I'm no slouch on the GAU-8. There were 2-3 players around the area I was doing a low pass on. The hard headed power trip attitude you're showing is the type of stuff that kills these kinds of communities. Not a single round or munition carried by my A-10 struck any player, nor did I ever pose a risk to anyone by doing a low pass as there was no one else in the air. I wouldn't risk my reputation as a writer by going off on a teamkill spree especially after I took the 20-25 minutes to fly to the airfield, land, re-arm, re-fuel, and then get permission to take off again. It takes a lot to piss me off but you sure did it tonight. Your behavior towards me was absolutely unwarranted, I did nothing to deserve it. It's not just the kick, but then your subsequent 25-30 kicks by the end of it all (yes including the 5-10 after I made this post) as I was trying to figure out why I was kicked in the first place. If you actually had any respect for the DCS playerbase you'd have given me a chance to listen to why you kicked me. If it was any other game I would have said screw this jerk and have gone somewhere else, but the smaller community doesn't give me the luxury of server hopping most nights. You just happened to have the server tonight that was not only public but also where everyone seemed to be playing. Now you're telling me not to return. This is the kind of stuff you want me to consider in my review, right? Awesome man, seriously.

I've been promoting DCS:A-10C Warthog at Voodoo Extreme pretty heavily since it appeared on my radar, and of course couldn't get enough of it once I dove into the beta. Since I wasn't able to log into multiplayer in the beta phases for some reason I only got around to exploring that aspect of it in the past month or so. Now the reality has hit. The majority of servers are password protected, and those that aren't either have teamkillers or admins who are too quick to punish people if they so much as think other player damage was dealt or will be. Take tonight for instance, I won't name names but there's a server up at the moment operated by someone I've seen before in other games. Cool I thought, I'll jump in. Bad idea. I don't mind that this guy was running some weird mission requiring a landing and rearm first, but while I was waiting for others to take off I went in for a low pass and got kicked. Then I got kicked, and kicked, and kicked. The one instance I was allowed back in I asked why the server was kicking me, and the admin said he was the one kicking me. I didn't team kill anyone nor make any attempt to do so. I'll admit to goofing off around the runway sometimes, but the only time I've actually intentionally gone after someone is if they've teamkilled others on purpose or me directly. This was not the case on the server. All I had done was spend my time to land, rearm, refuel, and take back off. I was waiting for someone to follow to target since I'm not familiar with the process of inputting waypoints or working with AWACS for targets. Maybe the trigger happy admin thought I was about to teamkill, but despite some odd 20+ attempts to reconnect he wouldn't let me back in to discuss his reasonings. If you guys out there want to see this community grow and DCS prosper you can not treat other players like this. I don't care how many teamkillers you've seen, being extra strict on the kick trigger is just as bad as locking up the servers. If any new player deals with this you better believe they're going to give up after awhile. DCS: A-10C Warthog is a good enough simulation to support several times the player count I've been seeing. Here's a business lesson for you. For Eagle Dynamics to continue to make these games they've got to keep moving copies. If you care about flight sims then do everything you can to make a proper experience for other players, and don't get on crazy power trips. You can get away with it in other games with sizable communities, but when you lock out players from servers with the highest headcounts you're creating a recipe for disaster. If you want to be stuck playing games like H.A.W.X. one day then keep it up, hardcore sims are already struggling. What ticks me off most is here I am trying to get sufficient experience in multiplayer for a review of all things (you know, that might even help DCS pull in new players), and I've got to deal with a power tripping admin in a VERY small community that offers very few public alternatives. Rant mode off.

I saw this asked earlier, but no answer. Is it possible to have a 10 character custom name? Ohmwrecker perhaps? :P
-
That sure would have helped, I mean letting the guy run rampant for the 30+ mins it took for the admin to come on from the time it started. I was the only one left in the air, came back, took care of the guy. He managed to get back up once, kept it up, and I kept him down for the rest of the mission. I continued to peg him on the ground because he started trying to jam up the runway. No regrets, I had fun playing the server policeman while the admin was away. I'm sure the teamkiller was pretty annoyed by the fact he wasted close to 30 minutes after starting his spree trying to get back in the air. He even tried takeoffs from the taxi lanes.
-
I found a good way to combat teamkillers the other night. Teamkill them as they're harassing the runways, and keep them grounded. The server was approaching dusk and was set up where the A-10s were already up and running. Once the TK respawned I'd see his new lights pop, and could ground him over and over with the GAU-8. After awhile he gave up, although an admin came on and initially started kicking me thinking I was the culprit. :) It was a good thing I was already in the air and at a mission point before he joined. Had I not shown up he probably would have kept people from taking off indefinitely.
-
Another night, another full list of servers except for an empty one in Brazil (with a high ping no less). The other 9 are locked. I'm kind of at a loss here, I think locking the community out of multiplayer over fears of griefing that good admins can take of only serves to harm the community. I'd rather have a place to play and get teamkilled than have to just exit out and play another game instead.
-
Every single server tonight is passworded. Come on guys, even if teamkillers pop up people can deal. Just turn off labels, it makes it much more difficult outside of camping the runway.
-
Yeah I'm rocking out at 20Kb/s now, makes no sense why guys hopping on at random get 25% done in 25 minutes and what not. I've been on the torrent for at least 3-4 hours, and I'm just over 75%.
-
Maybe I'm not quite the master of torrents here either. I'd say my average has been 150kb/s, it's going to be awhile. :P Congrats to all at ED, TFC, and of course the DCS team direct for a job well done!

Over 30 Minutes Of DCS:A-10C 1080HD Gameplay On Youtube
OhmWrecker replied to OhmWrecker's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
It's Instant Action Medium (winter) right on the main menu. You can power through it in usually about a half hour, it's great for when you want to just jump in and tear some stuff up. :) Before the HOTAS Warthog I was doing the TGP panning and zooming with just the keyboard since I was limited to my MS Sidewinder Force Feedback 2. The HOTAS Warthog really changed things up though, it's amazing how much easier it is to get things done when you've got almost everything you need in both hands. Usually the only time I need to take my hands off the WH is when I need to flip switches for startup, or access the MFDs. Regarding target broadcasting, as far as I know he's just going off his what he sees when I ask him to attack anti-air. I'm just zooming in on the targets on my TGP so I can keep track and get my weapons off when needed. Usually if you specify a weapon type though you'll hear yourself say "at my SPI", so I'm guessing the sim does support sharing target data, or at least sensor point of interest data. I still have things to learn though, so I can't say for sure. The HOTAS Warthog is definitely made for this sim, it's pretty much plug and play. The only control I've manually bound so far is Zoom on the friction toggle. Everything else is mapped exactly how it should be, it's like the in game stick and throttle panel is sitting on your desk. -
Over 30 Minutes Of DCS:A-10C 1080HD Gameplay On Youtube
OhmWrecker replied to OhmWrecker's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Yep, I'm running a TrackIR which I received earlier in 2010 but it hadn't seen a whole lot of action until now. PC specs are: Intel Core i7 920 processor on an Intel DX58SO MB 6GB Corsair Dominator 1600 DDR3 NVIDIA GTX 580 SLI I have three displays, and really love playing in 5760x1080. I wish there was a good way to capture it and show it off, but it's really something you have to see in person to truly appreciate. When I record games I just switch off to 1920x1080 on a single screen. -
Over 30 Minutes Of DCS:A-10C 1080HD Gameplay On Youtube
OhmWrecker replied to OhmWrecker's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Well, most of the controls and happening behind the scenes since I have a TM HOTAS Warthog and Cougar MFDs. As far as learning, well, I could have managed my weapons better but I thought I'd have more support from my wingman. I should have used my GBU-38 on the bridge, and other more stationary targets because as you can see in the video I just wasn't able to pop them off on the column. I also screwed up with my last GBU-12, failing to go back into CCRP mode so I accidentally released it as a dumb fire. Plus I could have used a little bit less cannon fire on trucks earlier in the game, rockets would have worked fine. Other than that it's just meant to showcase the graphics / environment along with some combat more than anything. Plus the whole crash landing was fun, it's not too often that you can land in a field and walk away. -
Youtube recently upgraded my personal account so that I could upload videos longer than the normal 15 minute limit, so I decided to make DCS-A10C Beta 4 my very first extended upload. The footage was taken from an instant action mission, medium difficulty (winter), and features most weapon usage. Looking back I should have saved my mavericks for the last convoy since my wingman decided to stop taking attack orders even with his gun. I went suicidal on the last set of targets, and went down in a blaze of glory (only to survive to tell the tale!) :) I highly recommend clicking through to watch it directly so that you can change the resolution (720p and 1080p are available), and in full screen:

Have you tried the "every frame" tip as a temporary solution? It works for me, although like others have suggested it also kills the gains you get with SLI active.
-
One thing to note is while disabling SLI is an option, that also means that if you're running three or more displays you get bumped down to two. I run three Alienware AW2310 120hz panels, and have A-10C set up for a 5760x1080 resolution. NVIDIA requires two cards to run three displays in surround resolutions. Thanks for the tip on every frame, I'll have to give that a try.

Haha, well trust me if you saw the amount of material that fleece robe lost you'd ask too. It was worse than having a dust problem, and I'm sure if his material shed fibers anywhere near that it'd no doubt work it's way into the ball of the stick and throttle as well. Thanks for the response Deadman, I haven't seen any reviews yet on the forums here so I thought I'd ask you direct.
-
Quick question for you deadman. Have you tested the quality of the fleece at all with some prolonged friction to see how the fibers wear over time? Any shedding issues? Fleece can be a little hit or miss at times. Some fleece is really well put together with tight and durable material, but others like a bathrobe I received as a gift shed fibers like crazy to the point that I couldn't even sit on furniture without leaving fibers behind. Also, any sort of quality assurance with stuff like stitches that come loose?

Flickering in TGP / Mav screens, Black Buildings
OhmWrecker replied to OhmWrecker's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Doh sorry I got my betas mixed up while reading other threads (like improvements to rockets in B4). I meant that the issue started in Beta 2, and is worse in Beta 3. Edit: I've gotten the flickering to go away by disabling SLI in the NVIDIA control panel. Looks like A-10C isn't a big fan of SLI 580s at the moment? :( -
In beta 3 I started seeing flickering in the TGP / Mav screens, and now with beta 4 the problem has gotten worse where there is now rapid tearing in the ground textures whether the focus is locked or I'm slewing about. I've also begun to see black buildings on occasion that then shift to a proper texture as I pass by them. I'm thinking there's something up with shadows, but I haven't been able to pinpoint it yet. I know in beta 3 even when I'd turn off shadows they'd still be on, but I'll try that again next in beta 4. I currently don't have access to the beta forums, so I can't post this in there. Sorry if this is the wrong place.
