Ugh, I shacked the Grison, but watched it from my chute. In Tacview, it got me at the very edge of the engagement envelope. Would have had it if I went defensive a split second earlier. I think I had the MAV lock earlier than I was aware, but got a little confused with the resolution and rendering in the MFD. Great campaigns! It's tough switching between F/A-18C and the 16 with the different hotas commands, but I'm glad I'm getting a feel for each.

Just got the remaster upgrade and I'm excited to try it out! I'm definitely here for any future upgrades, too. Or campaigns, for that matter. It's one of my favorites in DCS: such a great airframe with a ton of history.

I just picked up a book, "Afghan Air Wars," by Michael Napier. I've only skimmed it, as it just arrived yesterday, but I saw F-14Bs were deployed, I only saw VF-213 called out for the F-14Ds. Other close matches to existing or upcoming modules I see: French Mirage F1CRs, and during the Soviet-Afghan War MiG-23MLD, MiG-21bis, plus Afghan Air Force MiG-17 and MiG-21bis. Still hoping for a Super Étendard announcement some day, and see them called out buddy-lasing for Rafales, which I wasn't aware of.

R-One dominant fury: M07
rmcclo replied to rmcclo's topic in F/A-18C Raven One: Dominant Fury campaign
I tried mission 7 again on the stable release, non-mulithread preview, and it worked flawlessly. I guess I'll stay on that for now. -
First thing: fantastic campaign, it's a huge step up from Raven One, which was already unbelievable. On missions 7 and 8, when I get to the end I have to hang out for a crazy long time waiting for AI ahead of me to trap (they keep getting waved off dozens of times). At first I thought I was just getting the full Naval Aviation experience, but after coming up on empty after the first AAR and seeing the tanker return, I just decided to get on the deck, no comms, and had trouble myself. I'm not the best, honestly, but it's not just me, like I said: the AI can't do it. I think the ship either isn't sailing into the wind, or might be turning? I definitely saw it turn in TACVIEW for 7, not sure I can tell visually on 8 but the BRC definitely didn't stay constant. I also saw my velocity vector drifting toward the island abnormally which made me think crosswind if not a turning ship. I saved the track file for mission 8 if it helps. Since it's shorter, I'll try 7 again on Stable if I get a chance to see if it's just the Open Beta.

Thanks, that worked! (Both times) First time DCS crashed while waiting for the helo. 2nd time I got really nervous frantically cycling through radio commands to my wingman as he started PIOing on final approach (AI-IOing?). He crashed, but luckily that turned out not to be a passing criterion. But at least I have the startup procedure memorized.

Yes, ZSU-23-2. I'll give that a shot, that makes sense, thanks! I should be able to hit the APC first then wait for the reload. I've had to tell my wingman to anchor above, because he keeps getting hit even when I don't.

To begin with: fantastic campaign! Every module should come with something like this. I love how it incorporates an interesting story with a quasi-tutorial. On mission 7, is there a specific attack profile that offers the best luck hitting the ZSU? I've tried super low approaches from several angles, and steep dives, and always seem to catch enough flack to be unrecoverable. The best I've managed was coming from behind and staying shielded behind the building until the last second, where I got him but I got hit pulling away before it impacted. Didn't kill me but it was a magic bullet that left me stuck in afterburner, which both ate up my fuel waiting on the chopper and precluded slowing down enough to hit the tanker after. Almost thinking a guns pass might be easier. I don't see anyone having the same trouble in the YouTube clips, but imagining it's something simple I'm missing.

After completing Speed & Angels, with all that nighttime refueling, I decided to take a break and learn the M2000C doing the included campaign. I just did a perfect stern conversation on the tanker and refueled in one shot, no missing the basket or PIO. I knew going back to FBW would be a breeze after all that constant trimming and scanning the horizon for visual cues that I'm sinking, but I can't believe the muscle memory that built up even within the Speed & Angels campaign! Really makes you appreciate how hard the real thing must be, and how little the F-14 forgives sloppy flying! Thanks for the great campaign! I have to finish the P-47D Wolfpack campaign and see if it transfers the other way.

I can't wait for Eagle Dynamics to extend the draw distance for the deck lighting for Supercarrier. I over-corrected when the lights came on and roll got all wobbly on me. Had to salvage it from the wave-off pattern. I'm really good at AAR now, though, with all the repeat attempts on this one!
