  1. Just a question. You keep saying missile AIM 54 A should not perform that good against other fighters because...... the missile is old ? Is this the only basis upon which you build your argument? Because this is non sense. Apollo is an old program. And yet nobody else has landed on the moon so far. The Phoenix, as the tomcat, were way ahead of their time. Maybe they were even better actually than what is in DCS. So, as many people said before me, I recommand for you to bring evidence vs. real world data. But maybe you are just make a trick, to see how long this sterile discussion can go... If so, congrats, but not cool.
  2. I was curious about this. I took the time to read. I understood that aim 54 A guidance was better than C, better than amraam. Well. I don t know why people complain then. I love it. I m gonna fly pvp server with A variant from now on, fire at 60 Nm my 6 missiles, crank and wait for it. I m gonna be the king. Bye bye bugs and snakes.
  3. Interested as well. For simplicity, I use USB hub, with buttons to power the arduino down when not using the pit but regular pc stuff. For i2c, my question is how to pass/link the dcs-bios commands through it?
  4. Hello everyone, Quick update as Step 2 is complete on my side, all panels, VDI... OK, all but clock, bingo and G-meter. That will wait. I am happy to share and attach my designs. They are functional, with basically the bare minimum to my liking, and certainly far from being as accurate nor beautiful as other ones (such as @AusMumbles's, etc...). But I figured that as a quick and low cost approach, this will do the job. So maybe other people would be interested. I also attach some support for the Arduino Mega and my wheel version (very easy to install with a rotary encoder from Amazon). Quick advice. I had to re-adjust the joystick position, it was a bit too high and forward. The stick still touches the HSD when going extreme top left. But without the same stick as irl, it is a pain to adjust angles and height. So if you have exact location measures and methodology to adjust, I'll take it. Step 3 will be wiring and Arduino coding. I'm not found of that part - 100+ switches :-). Step 4 will be replacing the throttle with the real one, and also the rudder. When I compare with the game by removing my VR headset, I can say center frame is basically in position. But sides panels are a bit moved to the rear, maybe 1 inch (2.5 cm). Having panels cut by CNC should provide better accuracy. Or maybe it's because of VR and there is "some distorsion". Overall, it's really really good enough when playing. Cheers ! 5. I did not write 20 degrees drift. I mentioned I was lost between true and mag heading calls, depending on who calls, and whether Re sync has been done. I highlighted my question with an example. Sorry if I was not clear enough, but it was no trivial subject for me. I think we are on the same page now, no harm done, or so I hope. Jester tells you to head 010, but with magnetic deviation to aim at 350. I guess you are not a fan of any campaigns then. Because often in them, including reflected, heatblur, sandworm, and I m still a big fan 2+ years later, jester or chig or... briefs you about the case I pattern. Yet I read it from the manual way before knowing about resync. Sorry, it is a joke, don t take it personally but everybody has an opinion. Yours is different, I respect that. Let me clarify again my original intention with my proposal. I believe the re sync procedure is not well known, and I suggested the community could benefit from learning it in one way or another. Your first answer and the video are great. I hope it can help others like me. I believe we can close this post ? Thanks again to everybody for sharing and taking the time. Cheers Jar
  6. Oh my gosh, this is perfect. I know faw content but not this video. It kind of confirms my point, doesnt it? Not everyone knows about it and it s not widely documented if I may. Effect of de-sync can be important. So yes, this video is great great great. I would recommand more spreading of it. Maybe refer to it in guides, like chuck's, or my previous suggestions. Thanks again. Have a nice one.
  7. Hi @Reflected, thank you for your answer. So I do the right thing by resync, good ! Sorry, I was not very clear, my proposal was not related to the feature itself to implement, but the learning of the procedure to do it. As I did not know it s something to do until recently, maybe others feel the same. I thought that this could be mentioned somewhere. Maybe in this thread :-). Maybe in a tuto. Maybe in a mission. That s what I meant by implementing in a campaign. For instance, how about Paco mentioning it, and then you setup a "trap" 3 missions later ? You have a cap to maintain, you are off by 60 Nm, you're in the wrong territory, problems start... Just an idea. Absolutely no disrespect nor suggesting of what you should do. You are the judge on this. I m already honored you took the time to read and answer me. @Ivandrov thank you for your answer as well, I learned a lot and it answers my question about true vs magnetic heading calls. Just to clarify please, I never meant it as a "problem", as you wrote it. I just raised my hand for help. Please do not change the meaning of my intent. I feel so sad by reading too many negative comments too often, I do not want to start a new one. I am very grateful to Ed, Dcs, Heatblur and Reflected, I am sorry if wrong was taken, or if it seemed I was criticizing. I spent 1 hour to write my message to prevent this exactly. And 1 hour again for this one. Thank you for your understanding. Anyway, thank you all again for your time and help. It was not a trivial subject for me.
  8. Hello @Reflected, @IronMike, everyone (!), In Bio's book "Tomcat Rio", he mentions one time where his pilot forgot to "sync" the compass after taking-off, in order to compensate for the magnetic deviation due to the carrier, and resulting in an offset of 60 Nm in their navigation. Or so I understand. I noticed this offset myself early in the sim (bravo to Heatblur's fidelity !), but only after reading this book did I understand why and how to correct it. Now I always "sync" it after launch. But, it seems to me that very few missions take this into account. So, sometimes the bearing from the Awacs is off, or the navigation waypoint, and sometimes it is right on point. A good example is mission 3 in HB's campaign in South Atlantic. Jester tells you to head 010, but with magnetic deviation to aim at 350. One can understand why finding the A-4 / Mig-21 in the valley can be tricky then, with 20° difference. So I am wondering : is the resync after launch a standard procedure ? I do not find it in the check list Reflected provided from Navair, and none of the campains refer to it. But then why not ? It seems quite mandatory, doesn't it ? Are bearing calls magnetic or true heading by the Awacs of DCS AI ? Do the calls by Jester, Bio, Paco, any scripted sentences... refer to Magnetic heading in A/C or True ? If Magnetic, do they take into account the re-sync ? In real life, should they be True, or Magnetic for simplification ? Should this sync procedure implemented in campains, with sometimes "problems" if they are not (like in the book) ? Actually, this has embarassed me for 2 years and now I feel lost. No, sorry, a pilot never is. Let's say I'm momentarily uncertain of my position. And since you guys are (close to) Gods in realism, I guessed I could ask for a quick vector (true or magnetic) to Mother please ? Thanks a lot in advance for the clarification. JAR PS : The button I am referring to is the : HDG knob/button In SLAVED mode it’s used to sync the directional gyro with the magnetic azimuth detector and set magnetic heading on the BDHI. Button should be held until the syncronization indicator needle is over the null mark. https://www.heatblur.se/F-14Manual/cockpit.html#rsc PS bis : In the documentation, in normal operation (but INS mode) all systems show Magnetic heading : Bearing Distance and Heading Indicator (BDHI) A BDHI is on the right side of the pilot and RIO instrument panels, see Bearing Distance Heading Indicator (BDHI). It displays aircraft magnetic heading with navigation bearing data and range information. Note In the INS nav mode IMU true heading is used and must be converted to magnetic heading by adding or subtracting the magnetic variation to have a backup magnetic value, if needed. Under normal operation, AHRS magnetic heading is used for all displays.
  9. Hi @BULLITT83, I believe the guy you mention was... me? From France also ;-). Here is the extract of the windshield in .svg, from Mumble's model. Is that what you were looking for? FYI, to extract some parts / faces from Sketchup, you can select these, then do right-click, SVG layout, then SVG write. You will have to add the ".svg" as the extension of the file name, as it may not be there at creation. See screenshot below. It's a bit tricky, do not hesitate to get back to me, if I can help? null On my side, thanks again to @AusMumbles, I have finished the structure based on your model. I took the liberty to simplify it for several reasons : complexity, time, room volume, I'm in VR... I did draw and cut old floor panels manually with a jigsaw, 22 mm thick. So yeah, quite a long time to process everything. I am very happy with the results, within a 1 cm tolerance maybe ? I had to adjust things because of the manual cutting, and also take into account the thickness being different to the model. But it cost me about 10 bucks of screws and that was it. Worth every 1000 pennies of it, a real game changer. I am now moving on with the avionics. (I have bought a 3D printer. Man, this is awesome, how did I live without it before? ). Since I could not find the designs as a fully complete set, I undertook to re-design all of them, adapted to the switches I will buy. I believe the design is quite accurate, as I'm re-drawing from a scale 1 artistic painting in high resolution, found somewhere in this thread. I enclose here the first 2 panels. @AusMumbles, I think you were looking for those, do not hesitate to tell me if they are ok for you ? I have the original Solidworks parts, and can convert them to all possible formats. I should finish all of them by end of year. EDIT : I will contact LASooner, I just found he already did an amazing job on all the panels. Maybe he can share the files with an arrangement... I just love DCS. Can you imagine we are about to get the yellow shirts soon ? Talk about immersion within a full real cockpit... Cheers all, moving on with the panels design. PS : You can see I did not strictly follow @Victory205's recommandation regarding the seat. I did add real cushions instead of the nails and bricks. Sorry, but hey, sometimes I sleep in it. 10. Hi @Bullitt83, Indeed, I had not included the windshield for 2 reasons. I prioritized the "functional" structure, and the quotation is very hard I guess. Here are the files. For the side of the bottom part of the ejection seat missing, I believe I have included everything needed to rebuild the seat. Which part exactly are you referring to ? Could you do a screenshot of the model and circle what is missing please? Thanks JAR Windshield.svg
  11. Greetings, Thank you so much to Humble for your structural model. I took the liberty to move forward, and after a lot of struggle, I found a quick way to extract and quote the drawings in Inkscape automatically, with proper dimensions. If you'll allow me, I am sharing these, so that it can save others some time. Please note, I have not extracted some minor parts that I will cut and adjust during the installation. Also, some parts will not be used in my lighter cockpit, so I have not quoted them. But I share the way to do it below, it is very fast. Also, I have included an estimation of the wood necessary. Basically 2 rooms size in total surface . And last, as my plan is to re-use a high quality picture as a 1st step for panels, I have included the scaled picture (previsously mentionned in this thread). The screenshot is low resolution, but the principe to re-size the image remains the same. If you see some issues, don't hesitate to come back to me, I'll appreciate it. Thanks JAR IDEA : how to quote drawings in Inkscape ------------------------------------------- On an easy object, transform object into path. Then apply effect on path. Select "measures". => This will quote all lines of the path. On a complex object, draw a path from scratch, along the object perimeter. You may want to use magnetism and be faster. Then same method : apply effect on path. Select "measures". For angles, use the "measure" tool. Unfortunately, you can mark the length this way, but not the angle, so write it down manually (I have not done it so far, I will when starting the cutting part). Adjust the display via the options in the "measures" menu. Sometimes, dimensions are incorrect (they are displayed in inches but state millimeters). Just change the scale with 25.4 (or 1/25.4). 12. Hi Raz specter, Thank you for your poll and enquiry. It is very professional and appreciated. I would like to help and share my thoughts, because I don t understand why this map is not seen as top notch. I agree with most comments. I find sometimes it can be stunning and unique, with the right combination of light, weather, location. No other map offers it as its west fjords do. The 3rd mission of f 14 heatblur campaign shows a small example of the potential. So, I don t believe improving it will change anything. It s not where the issue lies. I mean, we always complain about performance, which is a no end crusade, but we also always adjust to our own settings. One does not buy a map because one gets 90 fps on it, does he? Otherwise, I would suggest to work on a north pole map. Buuuut, I don t fly on it much for a good reason. Because it is "just" a map. For me, I would recommand to first push towards more content, probably less expensive to develop too : instant actions, missions, campaigns. Honestly, we all thought about it when buying it : a historical or renewed falkland war. Do this (with reflected simulations for instance, and why not a 2-in-1 campaign with 1 side on mirage and 1 side on harrier), it may become the most popular map. Come on, its size and sheer potential is just gigantic. It seems to me it has entered in a loop, no content, not many people liking it, then no content, etc... Hope my humble opinion helps. Jar
  13. Hi guys, I was wondering. Is there a website or something, logging the passes of all pilots willing to share ? I'm not wondering about "who is the best pilot" (we already know that the plaque for the alternates is down in the ladies room). But rather I'm wondering about my level compared to other (dedicated) pilots, if I should still continue to train hard to improve, or if I can settle for my score as ok, and go have fun differently. My best score is 66 / 75, I don't know what it accounts for for an F-14-B (am I average, above, lower ?), and I usually score above 50. Also, for tomcat lovers, I would like to share my experience, maybe it will help others ? Quite surprisingly and interestingly, I followed Victory's advice at one point, because I could not get beyond a (low and unsatisfactory) score with the tomcat. So I turned the HUD off. I struggled even more at the beginning, because I needed a new routine. But then it clicked and I did not stop improving case I and III. Now, if I turn the HUD back up, I feel it is much easier than ever. But... I can't stand it anymore, so I keep it down, the routine feels more conforting with instruments. Exactly as Victory said, the analog needle of the altimeter is just so much better to understand your vertical speed / variation. So, I would suggest others to train hard without HUD. JAR PS : My compliments and many thanks to Bankler, you opened this road of a beautiful carrier landing for me.
  14. Hello, I love this addon with DCS. Combined with VR, so much immersion. Unfortunately, with the latest update of DCS on July, on the F-14 there is limited vibration when catapulting now. Only the lower sharers vibrate in my Simshaker and not a lot. I used to put the level at 100 and it was awsome. Is it related to the fact that Heatblur lowered the target speed by 15 kts ? Is it something you can tweak please, and revert as before ? Thanks for your help. JAR
  15. Hi guys, I have started to plan on building my own pit (plans review, analysis, material already available, best strategy for my needs and free time...). I am just so fed up with seating uncomfortably wrong in my office chair, re-centering my VR focus all the time, adjusting the HUD brithgness painfully slow... I have already done an "all you need" box with Arduino, for Gear, Hook, Master arm... But it's time for me to go the right way. I want to do a 1st step focused on wooden structure (thank you Sir Mumbles) and functional buttons. That's why I found winghunter idea very appealing, to print the panels layout from the game, and adding the buttons at the right place. Unfortunately, the link above is broken. Would you guys by any chance have a copy of his "photoshop printout panels" please? Thanks a lot !!! Jar EDIT : I found another post, I think I can work from this, as the layout is beautiful and precise. Thanks !
