  1. today i tried various ways: using modelviewer to export a csv-file and then converting it to an svg-image via blender (great: UV Map Converter Tool) works fine and gives a clear mesh (much better than the one provided by the modelviewer's uv-mapping-feature in textures-tab). alas, it needs a careful setup of the texture-files and does not seem to work for each and every 3rd party model using a panel_finder works, though not for every small item of the model. it can turn out to be very time-consuming. highlightening by an extreme colour (pink): the same some years ago i played strike fighters 2, a lightweight sim. some guy provided a very fine modelviewer: just click an item, say a gear-strut, and it shows the exact place as a mesh on the texture file. hopefully some day ED will provide a similar feature. up to this happening i will stay with no. 1 thru 3 thx again sinzov
  2. thank you for your answers. i already knew these coloured panel_finders and used my own ones - far less sophisticated for some time. they are useful, but time consuming ... i will try those different ways this weekend. cheers sinzov
  3. Hi, i am new to texturing in dcs, so i do have some questions: how do you pinpoint a certain part of the model on it's texture ? say you are looking for the gear struts or flaps or whatever you want to repaint ? is there a way to see the model's mesh projected over the texture ? there is a way to see the coordinates of a certain point / the cursors tip on the model if grid-view is turned on. but i do not remember how to switch on this feature. any idea ? any help is very much appreciated sinzov
  4. this series of soviet helicopters is very fine. is there a chance to provide roughmet-textures for them ? cheers sinzov
  5. hi may I add an improvement for the wonderful Yak-28 interceptor. the default loadout and the positions of the pylons are wrong. the series aircraft had no pylons inside of the engine nacelles, but two pylons on each of the outward wings. the outermost pylons were only cleared fo small missiles like the R-3 / Atoll, whereas the main pylons carried the heavier R-8 / R-98. I changed the lua-file accordingly (but lost the inner pylons somehow, beware ;-). \Saved Games\DCS\Mods\aircraft\coldwar\Yak_28.lua <=== folders according to specific install / remember: always backup old file the new section reads like this -- edited 2024 07 10: reordered pylon-positions, loadout, re-positioned pylons -------------- start----------------- Pylons = { pylon(1, 0, -3.200, -0.00, -4.36000, -- { FiZ = -1, }, { {CLSID = "{R-3S}"}, -- R-3 Atoll } ), pylon(2, 0, -2.3000, -0.25, -3.6000, -- { FiZ = -1,}, { {CLSID = "{R-8M1R_Yak_28}"}, -- R-8M1R {CLSID = "{R-8M1T_Yak_28}"}, -- R-8M1T {CLSID = "{R-98MT_Yak_28}"}, -- R-8T Inert {CLSID = "{R-98MR_Yak_28}"}, -- R-8R Inert {CLSID = "{ORO57K_S5M_HEFRAG}"}, -- R-8R Inert } ), pylon(3, 2, -1.140, 0.75000, 0.0000, { }, { {CLSID = "{RN-24}"}, {CLSID = "{RN-28}"}, {CLSID = "{40AA4ABE-D6EB-4CD6-AEFE-A1A0477B24AB}"}, -- FAB-1500 {CLSID = "{6A367BB4-327F-4A04-8D9E-6D86BDC98E7E}"}, -- 4 x FAB-250 {CLSID = "{MBD3_U6_3*FAB-250_fwd}"}, -- 4 x FAB-250 {CLSID = "{FAB-500-M54-TU}"}, -- 3 x FAB-500 {CLSID = "{53BE25A4-C86C-4571-9BC0-47D668349595}"}, -- 6 x FAB-250 {CLSID = "{F99BEC1A-869D-4AC7-9730-FBA0E3B1F5FC}"}, -- 6 x FAB-100 {CLSID = "{53BE25A4-C86C-4571-9BC0-47D668349595}"}, -- 6 x FAB-250 } ), pylon(4, 0, -2.3000, -0.25, 3.6000, -- { FiZ = -1, }, { {CLSID = "{R-8M1R_Yak_28}"}, -- R-8M1R {CLSID = "{R-8M1T_Yak_28}"}, -- R-8M1T {CLSID = "{R-98MT_Yak_28}"}, -- R-8T Inert {CLSID = "{R-98MR_Yak_28}"}, -- R-8R Inert } ), pylon(5, 0, -3.200, -0.00, 4.36000, -- { FiZ = -1, }, { {CLSID = "{R-3S}"}, -- R-3 Atoll -- {CLSID = "{ORO57K_S5M_HEFRAG}"}, -- R-8R Inert } ), }, -- edited 2023 07 10 -------------- end ----------------- -- I noticed that I am not able to zoom in on the updated model in external view as I could zoom in on the first version. any clue how I can fix this? thanks again for this mod.   6. @urbi you sure can have different textures for the yak-28 (thougfh very limited ones): just take nrs. I0 / 0I, II, 88, choose red, blue, yellow as colour - voila.
  7. maybe this is the wrong thread, but speaking of cold war aircraft - how about a soviet airliner ? the Tu-126 sure would make an excellent one is there a decent way to get rid of all that awacs-stuff of the Tu-126 and to rebuild the aircraft as a Tu-114 ?
  8. Hi, @Bunsen ypart of the problems: the naming of the various texture-files is somewhat inconsistent, so you have to make sure each of your description.lua points to an existing file. @tripod your code-lines did the job, my tu-128m.lua was missing the positions for the missiles. thank you, sir.
  9. from the very begining sorry, double post
  10. from the very beginning ;-(
  11. @Geschirre: can you provide your update description.luas for the Tu-128? @Tripod: a really fine mod. some glitches (superficial) though: tu-128: luas are not correct, missile attachment strange - missiles too low and to much to the rear (how can i change that ? lua-entries ?) some pilots seem too miniscule (b-58 ea.) but: marvellous, many thanks null
  12. Gentlemen, maybe I am mistaken, but I would prefer a second generation Fishbed: Mig-21PF (small fin), Mig-21PFM (broad fin) this version prolly being the most numerous supllied to the Vietnamese (some of them with GP-9 gondola, rarely used). The -F13 was only seen in 1965, 1966, and the -MF came late in 1971. But: whatever MiG, I very much appreciate your work very, very much. cheers, sinzov
  13. Sure, dcs is not about an artificial "balance" a la arcade, and this is not what i meant or what i want. dcs seems to be biased in favour of western stuff. i think it is a lack of realism and accuracy when a French F1, which is a third generation aircraft at best is tackling with a Fulcrum on equal terms or a CIWS is able to shoot up a volley of P-700 Granit. as for a technical inferiority of eastern products - i do not buy this argument. they were the first to use AESA-radar, FBW-systems etc., their airframes were certainly among the best, from Mig-21 to Su-35, and in Vietnam the US-Forces had to improve their electronic warfare capabilities drastically, both in quality and quantity. It is not without reason either that the US ever since tries to get their hands on Soviet / Russian stuff and maintains a very extensive and expensive training program to counter the threads. i guess we all know from experience that a discussion like this tends to go on and on ... ;-), but arguments deepen the understanding.
  14. Wish for less bias and a more balanced game. Two things first: an apology if this forum is the wrong place, and second - my topic has probably been passionately discussed a thousand times. i've only been playing dcs for a year, i like to set up different scenarios and then watch how the AI runs the game. To my surprise, the results are usually very one-sided - overwhelming victories for the western side. regardless of whether the battles take place in the air, on the ground or at sea. to give same examples: a2a: Western fighters like the French F1 prevail not only over Mig-21, but also Mig-23 and even keep up with the Mig-29 g2g: russian tanks are almost always defeated by their western contemporairies sea: an American supercarrier repels all the missiles coming from the Kirov-cruiser almost every time with it's CIWS believe me, i built the test scenarios very carefully and played them with various alternatives and on several maps (caucasus, syria, sinai). is my impression of a deep bias wrong ? this way dcs is no fun, and i will loose interest in an otherwise superb product.
