  1. Have been unable to find a view of the top plate off the warthog flight stick, so here is one. nullThat red weapon release button is the trouble maker for me. Can manage to get it to work if I wiggle my thumb on it a lot, but even then it is about a 1 to 15 chance that it will work for me. Not fixed it yet. For peoples interest, the weapon select button (grey on the side) is accessible by just taking of the top plate. Make sure this button is not loose when reassembling, before you put the screws in. Need to open up the sides of the stick to work on the other buttons and switches. All screws use a T-10H star screwdriver. null
  2. I used to use iControl a lot, but it is specific to the warthog. https://apps.apple.com/au/app/icontrol-dcs/id435409019 And it doesn't do the maps. And it is quite expensive.
  3. FYI I found this file in \Steam\drivers\Leap
  4. Has anyone priced any of the f-16 throttles from Bugeye? I expect insane pricing for home desktop but a year from now I'm hoping to have enough money to spend more than common sense would normally allow for.
  5. Just had another run with the Warthog after upping the visual distance to extreme. I can now see ground targets. Yay! The centre drift is pretty bad using the built in tracking. It is always moving left when I turn my head back to what should be centre. The inside edge is rather blurry. This distracts a bit. For example, when looking left to read a dial, the left eye sees fine but your right eye sees very blurry image. I think I found a way to wear the giant cable that works for me. This experience is getting better and better.
  6. No lighthouses yet. Hoping to be a bit richer next year and get a 2.0 once they are released in Oz. Not having that base station is the likely reason I occasionally need to recentre the view. I think it was by default that it was using my head to aim at switches. I was trying to use the seat height adjuster in the A-10C, but the selection was very hard to get onto that switch. I've got it on mouse now, so much easier, and a preferred method anyway. I think this was written last December (2018) https://vrgineers.com/vrgineers-xtals-planned-upgrades-inside-out-tracking-eye-tracking-and-xr-cameras/ Hopefully, they are getting close to releasing this upgrade.
  7. How? I'm assuming you are talking about in cockpit button/switch selection here. I have the XTAL, and aiming with the head was not at all fluid. I've not found a way to use eye tracking. To my knowledge that is a future software upgrade. Or are you referring to the 170 degree horizontal FOV?
  8. I see a very wide area of clear picture when it's positioned correctly on the head. The extreme edges do lose that clarity though. And with the weight, if you are throwing your head around in a dog fight, it will move on your face, losing that sweet spot. I've not tried the Reverb but from all reports it is the better option for wearability, and definitely for price. I suspect video to be very similar, but Reverb should be a little better. Reverb having 2160x2160 per eye at 90Hz and XTAL having 2560x1440 at 70Hz. VRgineers keep going on about their non-fractal lenses being superior, but I don't know how huge a difference that makes. I'm looking forward to getting a base station. I suspect that will fix the loss of centre I sometimes get. And position tracking is very important for immersion. And really looking forward to the planned visual improvements to the A-10C.
  9. One problem with personal, non professional reviews is that people mostly notice the things that irritate them. This system is quite phenomenal. The huge price tag is because they don’t have a mega company behind them like Valve, HP, Facebook. Price has to be up there for them to survive. Ideally, a customer focused gaming hardware company would buy the tech and redevelop for home consumer level pricing. I have personal concepts I’d like to see on a HMD. Like move the smarts of the device to the rear of the head to counter balance. Tricky to keep it rigid enough to be stable but I keep thinking of having the screen on top of the head and just mirrors at the front. Or a projection system. Again for weight balance. And how come none come with a built in bottle opener?
  10. Semi review for you. Only on day 2 here, though and I have no external head tracking. It's heavy. I've not used another headset to compare to but it will take a lot of tequilas for me to forget I'm wearing it. The thick cable can be felt dragging on the back or my chair. With the cable coming from my right, if I turn to look over left shoulder the cable will dropping between the chair and I. Clarity is not as good as I was expecting. This was the key point for getting this particular unit. It has the best screens and lenses out there but perhaps the GPU power and software limitations are holding it back. I am running a vid card slightly below the documented minimum. The directional head tracking is very good. It does lose centre sometimes after extreme haed turns. I thing most of them do though and easy to fix. Not designed for summer. It's 27C/80F in here and at times getting a little warm. Not too bad, considering it does a good job of blacking out outside lights. I've not played with the builtin microphone and voice command stuff yet. Vertical view angle is not great. In a fighter plane I thought I would have wanted to see higher easier, but it's really the cockpit dash that I miss. Need to tilt the head down a far bit to see your screens, and side consoles are even further away. Horizontal view angle is epic. Another reason I wanted this unit is the 170 degree horizontal view. Instead of feeling like you are looking out of binoculars, this feel like you're wearing Ned Kelly's helmet. This item is marketted for the likes of Honda and NASA. I will not ever get value for money from the XTAL. At the time I was in a good place financially. I got a 200 Euro discount for mentioning SweViver's Youtube videos. That took my quote down to 5300 Euro (500 for the lighthouse clip-on, 200 postage). Then I got smacked with import tax in Australia for AU$805 (~500 Euro) (I may have mentioned it was more earlier, but that was my memory telling me lies, it was $805.10) I wonder if I offered them $50 they would have lied for me and said the item was $90 instead. (Outside of DCS) The built in Leap motion hand tracking is still at gimmick stage. It's cool to play with but most of what you would want to do would have your fingers hidden from the cameras by your own hands. The AR/XR module they are working on looks fantastic. It allows your real life gear to be visible. OMFG ! https://vrgineers.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/AR_module.jpg If I hadn't already sold my mother, I would fully sell my mother for this capability. The biggest thing that stopped me from going VR earlier was the fact that you can't drink scotch from a pint glass with a HMD on. I proved that wrong today. It's not easy, but it's not hard either.
  11. Screen door effect is there if you look for it. But I can see it on my monitors if I look for it too, so whatever. And the padding is a little wrinkly and leaves minor marks
  12. For comparison this is roughly what PD 1.0 looks like; And at 1.6 much of it is readable.
  13. Big, meaty cable. As it is quite stiff it takes up a lot of room if dumped on the floor like this. It also makes it awkward to put the headset on. Top strap is hook and loop, adjustable for height on your noggin. Purple knob for sizing around your noggin. That stray strap at the top left, also seen on the top pic in this post, is the USB connector from the sensors to the headset. When ordering the unit, you tell them what sort of tracking system you plan to use and they give you the appropriate clip-on for it. The silver circle near that cable is a headphone jack. Not found a guide to tell me that yet. You can also see the lights across the bottom edge of the lens. These are barely noticeable to the naked eye, a very faint red. This would be the lighting for the automated IPD to be able to see your eyes when the displays are dark. At least that sounds like a reasonable assumption to me. I started the ordering process in mid May. So took 5 and a half months from that point. There were a few questions about what I was after so they could give me the correct gear. Original estimate was that it would be sent in September. That ended up being late October to get here yesterday (4 Nov).
  14. Bunch of pics Attractive white box with magnetic latch This is everything you get. If you want detailed instructions and drivers/software, you log into the developers portal that they create an account for you to use. Three types of mains power plug. None for Aussieland. I'm using the US one going into a 240V to 110V transformer. But bought a figure 8 appliance cable today to replace that setup. The included power transformer I hope you like black
  15. Many months ago, I ordered the XTAL. Finally arrived yesterday. After paying about AU$860 import tax. Have not got it working for DCS yet. SteamVR wants it in Direct mode but so far I can only get displays working in Extended mode (just like multi monitors in Windows, so I can drag windows into the view). I get lots of SteamVR crashes and can’t setup room scale to be seated only. I have no lighthouses yet and no VR controllers. Directional tracking works okay. That’s about all I can give at this point. Photos will come. A month after ordering it, my house mate (sister) lost her job and all my savings have been diminishing supporting us. Once I am monetarily stable again I’ll invest in a lighthouse 2.0. They should be available in Australia by then. I also run GTX1080 cards. This headset recommends a minimum GTX1080Ti. Perhaps this is why I am having trouble.
  16. That they’ve tested so far? Does that include Xtal though?
  17. And suddenly I wish I was a streamer. They look awesome in bare metal. I'm a little poor at the moment. May have to sell my sister so I can jump on the order wagon. Then get a house big enough to hold that throttle.
  18. Name: Watchtower Author: Opy Mission type: SP Controllable: A-10C Landscape: Caucasus - Day Quick Summary (5 lines): - Clear the river in preparation for spec ops activities - Fairly quick mission from a cold start - Good practice for CBU-97 and the Avenger - A few little extras to shoot at if you have the urge - No mission restrictions Link/Download: Watchtower.miz Misc info: Mission originally made for practicing cannon runs on tanks. Take out tower then 3 of the nearby tanks with a CBU-97 and a sole T-55 is out in the open for target practice. Mission grew a little since then and now is also used by myself to make use of weapon programs.
  19. Fidget, I'd try an uninstall, reboot, check all folders are gone or empty and install again from scratch. I'm very new to VoiceAttack myself. It's struggling to understand my lazy arse drunken Aussie accent. Oh and training Windows to understand "At Sea", oh, I mean "86", no, "ATC". Yeah. almost painful. Have to remember to call it "Tower" instead. And anything that sounds like "Delete" or "Strike" or "Copy", just skip those. It takes it as a command and I couldn't see where to turn that feature off.
  20. I've been trying to figure this out for weeks. Today I finally found enough info to confuse myself more. What is the advantage of a dual combiner HUD? How does it actually work?
  21. We've all had similar issues. My last occurrence was that the wardrobe behind me was open enough that the camera could see the reflective strip on a safety vest hanging in there :)
  22. There are also options of exporting select items to a phone or tablet. I've only played with an expensive one that is specific to the A-10C. The easiest way to avoid all of this effort (for every aircraft you use) is to win a lot of money and get into VR. Very easy to just look down at your HSI or whatever and back up to your HUD. But hard to drink from a pint glass while wearing a VR headset. (So, I have not gone VR yet)
  23. To my knowledge, you cannot have an external view and an internal view at the same time. You have a variety of options on how to use multiple screens, or even a single screen. Maybe the best thing is to give one a go for a while and see if it is what you want. I used to use HawgTouch. You can see gauges on the bottom of my bottom and right screens on how I had it configured for a while. Now I use Ikarus which provides an image of the plane's front panel with gauges already setup. You just need to position any screens that the plane has (MFDs, RWR, CDU if you like). So now my setup looks like this: I'm not a fan of the file download method of Ikarus, but I like the product. This is not a guide on how to do it, but will give you info to start with and help you understand the scope of effort you may need to go through, depending on what you want to do; You can use Ikarus with using the whole front panel. You can specify just the items you want and where you want them. I think that is all you need to do for gauges. MFDs and the like are a little more tricky. SU-25T doesn't really have one. Maybe an RWR, I forget. The monitor options that you mentioned are individual files we call 'monitor setup files'. Using a quality text editor like Notepad++ you can open the files and see how they are formatted. (Off top of head, they are in \DCS World\Config\Monitorsetup\) I think most of us that customize our screens create our own file. Often it will not appear in the Monitors list in the in game settings, so you tell the options.lua file (somewhere in %userprofile%\Saved Games\DCS\)what the file is called. The monitor setup file allows you to export those cockpit screens to a fixed position using coordinates and dimensions. Pixel ruler software can help you work this out. An entry like 'Left_MFCD" may work on a variety of planes. You might not want that, especially if using Ikarus panels where everything is positioned differently on different aircraft. So then you need to find the file that controls that screen for that particular aircraft, edit it to give the screen a unique name and then you can add that to your monitor setup file. Or you can have a monitor setup file for each aircraft and load it up when you need it. Then patch day comes along and wipes out all of your work. :) So backup your stuff. I like to backup my files in the same folder structure, so I only have to copy the Mods folder into DCS World folder and it will overwrite what I want it to. Scared of modding yet?
  24. And it is more like a 40mm than a 50mm extension.
