Install is asking me: [ ] Setup 32 bit files (I'm running 64 bit so I don't think I need them) [ ] Install Direct X June 2010 The Beta might have installed a lesser version of Direct X. I uninstallled DCS - don;t know if that DirectX when with it. I'm running Win7 64bit. Seems the installer program should be smart enough to know that and not bother me with confusing questions. Can anyone advise about the DirectX question?

What's a torrent? Not really interested in installing some third-party client - is it safe?

Okay - maybe I've missed the official instructions - they're have been an awful lot of forum posts in the last 24 hours and I haven't read them all... I've got the Beta 4 release - so I've pre-purchased the final release. Here's what I've tried - going to the download menu (left side of A10 page) downloaded the 1.86MB setup file via HTTP server 2. No problem it downloaded. If I try and download the bin files it opens the purchase page - I've logged in. What am I supposed to do? FTP doesn't seem to work - it doesn't recognize my DCS login. An official step-by-step sticky would be helpful (assuming I haven't missed it in the forum) John

I've been shooting at ground targets and I notice when using the default circular reticle there is sqare inside the circle that blocks my view of the target. Its hard to explain but the square is opaque its just preventing me from putting the pipper on the target. I keep having to pull off the target to see where I am and then quickly realign and guess where the target is in the reticle.

Thanks man - you saved me a bunch of hours.

Is there a basic refuelling mission - started "in air" that is part of thr Beta 4 missions? Or one that I can download?

BiPod - I've edited my lua files (what does lua stand for anyway?) and now I have the snap views - however there doesn't seem to be a view for fwd-left panel (fuel switch area). Also pressing the Left-Win key with a keypad key is going to require having an extra hand - but I guess the solution is to map those snap views to the keypad keys only. The views only appear when I hold down the key - which isn't going to allow me to use them to press buttons - like programming the CDU from the view (again not enough hands). How can I make the view an on/off view instead on a momentary view? Thanks

Right - obviously, N/T setting IS both. But it seemed like they were mutually exclusive options - either Nose OR tail fuse. So the N/T option didn't make sense to me. I am assuming "Nose" fusing means low drag - in other words don't deploy the ballute and that "Tail" option means deploy the ballute; and that is all it means. Does nose and tail fusing have additional meaning other than drag options - such as a fusing mechinism actually located in the nose or tail of the bomb that is selected?
-
Question about the bomb fusing: Nose, Tail and N/T (Nose/Tail). The "Nose" setting is used for low drag - basically just dropping the bomb 'slick'. A "Tail" setting is used for high-drag drops or retarded drops with the extended ballute. So what happens in the "N/T" mode? John

SCUD and Bart - Thanks that was just the information I needed to move forward with the sim. I appreciate your help. John

I need to make some progress on this sim. All I've been doing for weeks is the tutorials and instant missions. I want to be able to startup-taxi-takeoff-fly the pattern-land and shutdown. Next I need to be able to navigate from one base to the next and then try air refuelling. I've looked at the mission editor to try and create something - haven't found any tutorials or guides on using it. I'm assuming I need to ctreate a mission to accomplish the above training. Can anyone offer some guidence on creating the missions?

A few thoughts and current frustrations - not so much with the sim but with the hardware interfaces I'm using. 1) TrackIR - I've got version 4 with the clip that attaches to the front of a baseball cap. I've had this for a few years but rarely have used it since I've never been able to get it to fucntion properly. So many people seem to be able to use the TrackIR without issues - its frustrating. To have any hope of efficiency in the A10 cockpit a TrackIR is needed and I just can't get the f'ing thing to work right. The cockpit display goes crazy - spinning around or being otherwise jittery when I try to 'look down' with the TrackIR. I need to be able to see the left and right side panels head on - that is not looking at them fron the side - (I want to see the text on the panels properly, not from the side). Other times if I move too close the screen freezes until I move back. I've got the camera angled down a bit approx. 6" and I'm about 24" from the screen. I'm using the DCS TrackIR profile I found referenced in the DCS forum. 2) I'm using the Saitek X65F without any Saitek driver or programming done. Just straight into the USB. I've been able to set it up to approximate the WartHog's HOTAS. Trimming the Warthog with this stick is very difficult - constant pressure must be applied and if I need to press the weapon release button I have to release pressure to move my thumb - and then I've moved the reticle off target. There isn't much pitch movement in the controller A10's setup screen to create enough of a deadzone. If I need to trim I usually reach over with my left hand to adjust the trim hat. The trimming in the sim also seems very coarse - I need to be able to fine trim the elevator. I am also using a FlightSim seat from Playseat which has side trays for the HOTAS. My stick is currently on the right tray - similar to an F16 side stick. I've got to get it center mounted so that I can - steer left handed when I need to use the mouse... Q: Is anyone using the Saitek X65F with its 64-bit driver and programming software? Are you able to adjust the deadzones so trimming is easier? Q: Is anyone else having issues with trimming this aircraft? 3) ThrustMaster MFD screens - I think these would be very helpful (as long as they're easy to setup) - pressing the MFD buttons would be more efficient than using the mouse. Ultimately - I plan on getting a TM A10 HOTAS, but before I spend $500 I want to make sure I'm truly addicted to this sim. The learning curve is very steep and I've a ways to go...

Thanks guys - I do appreciate your time in helping me. I may not be able to troubleshoot this today - getting ready for a SuperBowl party here at my house. I do recall that one of the bombs I was trying to 'edit' was a GBU-38 JDAM - so pilot error I guess on that one. I don't remember the other bombs - however I was flying the first two instant combat missions - so whatever those loadouts are... As BiPod has indicated there may not be any unguided bombs in these instant missions - so again probably pilot error. I'll try and re-fly these tonight. Appreciate your efforts - you guys are always quick to help out. John

BiPod -Thanks. I don't think its a Parallax error - but I will try again later today and make sure. Its strange because I don't have this issue with the unguided bomb training tutorial - just in the instant mission.
-
Weaponz248 - Thanks for the input. I think I am following the steps you laid out - not sure if I have click the save option - but I definetly do not see the value of any of the parameters changing when I click on the rotary buttons.
-
Thanks BiPod - I hope to give this another try today - not sure how much free time I'll have - we've got the SuperBowl today back in the U.S. One thing though when I click on the 'rotary' button to switch from 'single' to 'pairs', for example, the value doesn't actually change to 'pairs'. It is like that for all the parameters they aren't changing. - John

I've been playing the instant action missions and I often have trouble with the unguided bombs. I can't seem to modify the profiles - for example switching from single to pairs or low-drag to high-drag. Also choosing CCIP instead of the selected (default) CCRP. I've done the tutorials several times and re-read the combat section in the manual. What am I missing? Is this behavior a part of the instant missions? It seems like I should have full control to edit profiles and bomb as I see fit. Its a very complex simulation - maybe I've missed something. Thanks for any help. John

I have only done training missions and a few of the instant missions. I'd like to move up and start training on the Nellis range - that I've seen videos on and also air refuelling. Where acan I find the nellis mission? Is there a mission available for inflight refuelling? Something that has me in the air somewhere near the tanker. Thanks

I'm new to the combat air simulator - looking forward to eventually knowing enough to join a virtual squadron and fly online missions. Is there going to be a way to add different theatres to the campaigns? Afganistan and Iraq would seem to be obvious choices. Is this something that is likely to be developed within the mod community? Thanks guys. I was aware of that post and have followed those instructions before and it didn't work. I tried it again just now and the "Request Access to Beta" link was there. It wasn't there a week ago when I tried...anyway thanks for your help.

Having trouble getting to what I think is a Beta User part of the forums. Some links I have clicked on want to direct me there - however I get the following message: JCook, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons: Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system? If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation. Apparently I don't have sufficient privileges to access the page. I am a regstered user and have pre-purchased the A10. I've posted in the "Forum and Site Issues" section under the thread "Access Issue". I have gotten some responses - however all their suggestions do not work for me. I'm asked to got to a page and click on a link - however that link does not show up for me. Can someone provide the correct way for me to get acccess to these Beta Forums? Thanks

Is there anyone out there that can help - I still have a problem getting to the Beta forum. The instructions previously given don't work because the link I need doesn't appear.

Just wondering how big the A10 flyable world is - Could I for example fly a ferry flight from a squadron's home base in the US across the Atlantic to the operations area where all the combat is taking place? That would be some pretty long and boring flying - which might include stop-overs in Greenland and several mid-air refuelings. Is something like this possible?

A few other tutorials - Setting up Missions in the mission editor Multi-player tactics

Are there any plans to add additional tutorials in the next Beta or the final release? I'd like to see: Close air support of a ground team Air Refuelling Night Mission Buddy lasing of targets to attack Communications The current tutorials are great - I keep playing them over and over to learn this fantastic sim. Thanks
