  1. WarriorX - thanks that is a useful tip. Making the mistake of restarting the CDU initialization from scratch would probably be bad. Conure - The thing about those pages are that its menu and submenu options / descriptions and you don't necessarily see the practical use of those options until the other chapters. I'll probably write up step-by-step guides for the various things I need to do in the cockpit to help me learn.
  2. Pages 168-245 detailing the CDU and primarily navigation inofrmation is absolutely brutal reading. Seems to be very complex navigation system and not at all user friendly. How much information from those pages needs to be learned? Are there some CDU basics for navigation I need to know up front? And maybe learn the rest later?
  3. I just spent 2 hours of my very limited free time tonight on a certain FA18 SuperHornet - which while a beautiful simulation is always a hassle to get setup. It habitually is inconsistent in recognizing my controllers. The DCS A10 on the other hand has given me zero issues with my controllers - so THANK YOU DCS! I'll spend the rest of my evening flying the A10.
  4. Still having trouble I am still getting this message (below) - after I log in correctly. Apparently there is another part of the forum site that has "Beta" postings that I cannot get to. Can an administrator please fix this for me? "JCook, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons: Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system? If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation. " Also - I have followed the link that has the instructions on resolving this issue (this link: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=61793) however the instructions DO NOT work for me since I never see the link to request access to the Beta forum. Thanks, John
  5. Thanks for your help. I looked at the page you referenced but I don't see the button I'm supposed to press. Where exactly is it on the page?
  6. I have the original Falcon 4 game and its 3-ring binder manual which goes into much detail about bombing techniques in the F16, including CCRP and CCIP. Since I'm having a slow time learning these techniques in the A10 - would I benefit from re-reading the bombing techniques in the Falcon manuals (I haven't read the F16 docs in years). I know the differences in the two aircrafts will make the techniques different but is the HUD symbology similar? Anyone having flown both the DCS A10 and Falcon 4 please reply. Thanks John
  7. I'm having some trouble accessing some of the forum threads. Here is one of the links I tried to access: "...requesting my Radio Tutorial be added to the User Created Document section" Link:http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=61349 and here is the error message I received: JCook, you do not have permission to access this page. 8. Yup - thats what I am trying to do - hold the TVV level on the horizon line.
  9. Yes, holding constant speed - not changing the throttles though the aircraft is obviously increasing/decreasing in speed as the pitch trimming is being done.
  10. I'm having a bit of trouble with trimming the aircraft's pitch. I've got the pitch/roll trim setup properly on my stick, a Saitek X65F, and I feel like I have a large enough deadzone applied (8 I think) but the plane doesn't hold level when flying hands off. Maybe this is the way it should be - anyone else experience this? I use the pitch trim, but it takes quite a bit of up/down adjustments to get it near level and it doesn't last for long. Thanks for the help John
  11. On the starboard side of the aircraft their is a black "nose" on the front of the airframe that houses the landing wheel. The port side is not black. Is there some signigficance? Possibly some instrumentation on the starboard side? Thanks John
  12. Very nice manual. One thing though, step#36 appears to be saying Calibrate the Altimeter to zero. What you should be doing there is setting the altimeter to the local altimeter setting which you would get from ATIS or the local control tower. Setting barometric pressure value in the little window on the altimeter provides you with an accurate airport elevation reading above sea level.
  13. Those are nice pictures...can someone explain them please? I'm in the process of programming my X65F.
  14. Okay - the X65F works perfectly in MS FS9/FSX just as I said. However since I use FSUIPC to configure and calibrate the controllers, if I did see this behavior I could resolve it easily in FSUIPC. Sorry for the confusion. I believe you're right about the assignments in problem two - they seem to be working alright now. I looked at the axis display box while in an actual flight and the controllers seemed centered. On this flight I did not experience the heavy pull to the right - perhaps that initial problem has (somehow) been fixed. Right now all the contollers axis appear to be working as expected. Not sure what changed. But thanks for your help. John
  15. I've had the X65F for several months so I don't think I'm going to send it back. I'm not convinced there is a problem with the hardware. The roll and pitch axis' work flawlessly in MS FS9 / FSX simulators. I use it to fly the Dodosim B206 helicopter and the Vertical Reality Simulations FA18 Super Hornet. NO PROBLEMS at all. I can set the stick where I want it and let go and it will hold steady. I'll try looking at the axis box while in the cockpit as suggested. I don't think aileron trim is going to work for me though. I've got to have the software seeing the stick as centered. Any other ideas? I really want to fly this thing. Thanks for your help. John
  16. Problem 1: Attempting Tutorial two - Takeoff. Once airborne there is a strong right turning tendancy in the stick - its all I can do to fly straight. If I let go of the stick I'm in an immediate hard right bank. Looking at the axis in the options menu I see that my roll axis (ailerons) is to the right of center. None of deadzone or other options is enough to cancel out this right alignment. I'd know how to fix this in MS flight sim - though it was never a problem there. How can I 're-center' the X65F joystick so the A10 understands where center stick is? Problem 2: Assigning controller axis is pretty confusing...here is what I have. These assignments were derived by actuating the controller axis; these are the definitions the A10 came up with. CH Rudder Pedals Rudder = Joy_Slider1 Left Brake = Joy_X Right Brake = Joy_Y Saitek X65F HOTAS Pitch (Elevator) = Joy_Y Roll (Aileron) = Joy_X Throttle Left = Joy_Z Throttle Right = Joy_Slider1 This looks to me like several controller axis are sharing the same definition - this is a conflict right? Does the software know the difference between X65F (Joy_Y) and CH Pedals (Joy_Y) or does it think this is the same axis assigned twice. And it can tell them apart the config screen should show that in the options...IMO. I've not installed or configured with the Saitek utility. Maybe I need to calibrate with that utility? Anyone have any experience with the A10 & X65F configuring? Right now its not flyable - can anyone help? Thanks - with your continued help I'll eventually fly this thing. So far flying real aircraft is a lot easier :music_whistling: John
  17. What I'm finding is that the assignment window lists all axis for all controllers. In other words it isn't broken up by conroller - like Controller 0- slider 1, controller 1-button 3. So it is a bit confusing. Moving the contoller axis brings up the assignment - like JoyX, however I see that JoyX on more than one conroller. Like for Rudder and Joystick.
  18. Lange Thanks for your help. I found the ADD button - I should be able to work it out from there. I'll eventually try the Saitek utility software to see what additional control I can get with the HOTAS. FYI: In FSX (and FS2004) I have the controllers disabled on the sim's controller and assign and configure contollers and axis' from FSUIPC. FSUIPC works much better and alows extreme tweaking of the contollers. I don't fly any FS aircraft without it - its one of the best FS utilities there is. John
  19. Thanks Quirk Thanks Quirk I guess I must have been reading an old post about the 64-bit driver issue. I'll download and install the new one. John
  20. I tried the Engine Start Tutorial and when the presentation gets to the part about clicking in the lower right hand part of the screen (where the yellow highlighted indicator is) nothing happens. Clicking on that hotspot dosen't do anything - it should, I assume, show the right-side panel. Minutes go by - nothing. It hasn't crashed because I can ESC out of it and retry. Anyone have a solution? Running Win7-64bit / DCS A10 64-bit ver John
  21. Recently downloaded the A10 Beta4 and the install asked about 32bit files, which was a bit confusing, but I found some explanation of that in the forum. Since I have Win7-64 bit I decided not to install 32 bit files (so I'm running 64-bit - right?) Now I've see in other threads that TrackIR won't run with the A10 64 bit version - this is really kind of a huge problem and I realize that it is on TrackIR to (hopefully) provide drivers that will work with the A10 in 64 bit; so what do I do? How is head movement in the A10 done without TrackIR? Do I uninstall the current 64-bit and then reinstall using the 32-bit files. Has anyone done this yet? Are there any issues with doing this? What are we missing out on by running the 32-bit A10 version as opposed to the 64-bit A10? Thanks John
  22. I just dowloaded the A10 and I am brand new to this forum community - looking forward to flying this aircraft. I have the Saitek X65F HOTAS that I will use for DCS A10, currently I use it in the MS FSX and I primarily set things up with the FSUIPC utility, as such I have not needed to install any X65F drivers or X65F configuration utility. DCS A10 sees my controllers in the Controls section, however I don't know how to reassign axis' to controllers - for example assigning the CH Rudder pedals to the DCS rudders. If there are any instructions for this in the game I've missed it. Can someone please explain the best way to configure the X65F? And, will I need to install the X65F drivers / utility software? Thanks John
