  1. 31 May 2024 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, In a recent newsletter, we discuss the upcoming enhancements to the DCS: F-16C Viper’s navigation system. In order to provide more details of this complex system, we have prepared a GPS + INS Whitepaper. We look forward to your feedback. The upcoming DCS: F/A-18C Operation Mountain Breeze Campaign by Sandman Simulations will offer 15 immersive missions with comprehensive briefings and debriefings, told through voice actors. This campaign, as well as the F-16C navigation system enhancements will be in the next DCS Update. Stay tuned! Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics INS + GPS for F-16C Development White Paper The navigation system on the DCS: F-16C Viper is a complicated mixture of technical solutions that supplies the navigation avionics with coordinates, velocities, and angles that are characterized by precision, availability, integrity, and autonomy. This is achieved by the cooperative work of the Inertial Navigation System (INS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) whose navigation inputs are processed through a Kalman filter in the Modular Mission Computer (MMC). Let’s discuss each of the components in detail in the F-16C Viper GPS + INS Whitepaper. Operation Mountain Breeze Campaign by Sandman Simulations In the fall of 2015, the Syrian Civil War rages between the rebels and Syrian government forces. The involvement of several foreign powers, ISIS, and Hezbollah in the conflicts further escalates tensions. The USS Theodore Roosevelt’s Air Wing has been tasked to establish a no-fly zone over the western parts of Syria to prevent attacks on civilians. This story-driven campaign places you in the boots of a junior, US Navy pilot of the VFA-131 Wildcats squadron. Your skills as an F/A-18C pilot will be tested across 15 challenging missions. You'll receive detailed mission briefings with charts and kneeboards that can be accessed both in-game and PDF briefing documents. Detailed briefings are provided by the squadron skipper and flight lead using “in-game” mission briefings. Performance-based feedback will be provided after each mission. Voice-overs narratives between missions enhance immersion and create a compelling and varied experience. Prepare for intense dogfights, close air support, SEAD, and strike missions. The Skipper has high expectations for you! Hopefully, you can meet them. We trust you enjoyed the DCS: F-16C GPS + INS Whitepaper. Please stay tuned for next week’s DCS Update! Thank you again for your passion and support, Yours sincerely,

Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics F-4E Phantom II Out Now in Early Access The F-4E, first flew on the 30th of June, 1967, and entered service in 1968. It became the most numerous version built with 1,397 examples manufactured. The “E” is distinguishable from other variants by its internal centerline 20mm M61A1 Vulcan cannon, with 640 rounds. In addition to the internal cannon, the F-4E includes an impressive variety of air-to-air and air-to-ground weaponry. In air-to-air combat, the F-4E can employ both radar-guided AIM-7 Sparrow and infrared-guided AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles. The F-4E is a very powerful fighter that, in the right hands, can be a potent dogfight adversary. In the air-to-ground role, the F-4E offers a wide array of unguided bombs, rockets, and guided munitions like the AGM-65 Maverick, AGM-62 Walleye, and radar-seeker AGM-45 Shrike. 3. 17 May 2024 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, For the next DCS update, we are preparing eagerly-awaited new features such as the FCR Zoom and C-Scope for DCS: AH-64D and FCR and TADS LINK. These features make the AH-64D an even more deadly force on DCS battlefields by increasing situational awareness and enhanced target identification. Patricio Massun is a 3D artist from Argentina who created a free asset pack for DCS that contains a variety of ground models, fortifications, and airfield assets. Please join us in thanking Massun for his help to include these directly into DCS. We are testing the models and plan to include them in DCS for free! Furthermore, the DCS: F-5E Tiger II has received various enhancements such as the RWR improvements, more realistic radar ground clutter, and the addition of the AIM-9J Sidewinder. Please read the details below and stay tuned! Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics AH-64D Update Overview Upcoming Update release: 21 May, 2024. For the next DCS update, the AH-64D will see the addition of three important features: the Fire Control Radar (FCR) Zoom and C-Scope functions and the LINK function for the FCR and TADS. Both are incredibly useful when engaging targets. The Zoom function allows you to zoom-in on the FCR Next to Shoot (NTS) target at a 6:1 ratio, or you can use the display cursor on the FCR page to select an area to zoom in on. This is very useful when engaging closely grouped targets. The C-Scope function, also selected from the FCR page, allows you to place FCR target identification symbols on both your Helmet Mounted Sight and the CP/G TEDAC display. This is an invaluable tool for building situational awareness, and AH-64D players without an FCR installed can still see these symbols using the datalink. Both items are previewed in this DCS: AH-64D FCR ZOOM & C-SCOPE video. The next update will also introduce the sight select LINK function to the AH-64D. This allows both the CP/G and Pilot to slave the TADS video to the FCR NTS. This will allow you to visually identify FCR targets through the TADS prior to engagement and allow you to perform battle damage assessments after an engagement. LINK also allows you to slave the FCR to the TADS. You can learn more about LINK here DCS: AH-64 | FCR/TADS LINK DCS Core Massun92’s Assets Pack We would like to thank Patricio Massun for creating his asset pack and his work to assist with integration of the 3D models as part of the DCS Core. Massun’s Asset Pack for DCS includes over 100 terrain objects including fortifications and ground models that can be placed across all DCS terrains. These models are very well designed and aid to create more realistic and immersive missions. For more information, please check out the Massun Asset Pack for DCS forum. We are currently testing all the models and planning to include them in the next DCS update. F-5E Tiger II Development Progress A favorite of Cold War pilots, the DCS: F-5E Tiger II is a very capable, twin engined, light-weight fighter with excellent close combat and ground attack characteristics. This beautiful aircraft was easy to deploy, maintain and operate and much loved by its pilots. For the next DCS update, we’ve made several improvements based on your feedback. These include: The Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) now displays radars in search mode. Ground clutter on the radar is now more accurately represented based on altitude and scanning elevation. We’ve added the AIM-9J version of the Sidewinder air-to-air missile. TACAN operation with no weight-on-wheels has been corrected. It is no longer possible to uncage the AIM-9B Sidewinder in pre-launch mode using the Missile Uncage Switch. We hope that these F-5E improvements will further your enjoyment and make the F-5E an even better addition to upcoming Flaming Cliffs 2024. Thank you again for your passion and support, Yours sincerely,

We are excited to bring these updates to you, and we look forward to your feedback. The primary objectives for the new pilot models are to: Enhance visual fidelity and realism in line with new graphical technologies. Improve animation fluidity for more lifelike pilot movements. Incorporate detailed flight suits and equipment specific to the aircraft, reflecting actual gear worn by F-16C and F/A-18C pilots in the mid-2000s Suit Modelling The flight suits are crafted with high-resolution textures to accurately replicate the fabric and material properties. Special attention has been paid to the reflectivity and roughness maps to ensure that the suits react realistically under various lighting conditions. Harness systems and life support equipment have been carefully modelled. For the F-16C pilot, the harness connects to the ejection seat precisely as it would in the real aircraft. The F/A-18C pilot features a survival vest equipped with pockets and gear appropriate for carrier operations. The helmets are modelled with operational visors that can move up and down, helmet mounted displays, and night vision goggles. Animations Subtle in-cockpit movements such as head-turning to check instruments, hand movements for throttle and stick operation, torso movements, and even eye movements are being refined to mimic real-life. We continue to work on making the pilot’s body respond to G-forces more realistically. We hope to include inflation of the G suit during high-G manoeuvres and subtle shifts in weight. Next Steps Once these new pilot models are integrated for the first and third person views for the DCS: F-16C Viper and the DCS: F/A-18C, we will implement a similar 3D pilot model to the DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer. Operation Green Line Campaign by Badger633 This immersive campaign features 12 unique missions that are interconnected through a continuous narrative across multiple Middle Eastern locations. Both carrier and land-based operations are included. Developed with virtual reality in mind, the campaign eliminates the need for jotting down transient coordinates, thereby maintaining immersion. Optional tanker refuelling is available, though careful fuel management can negate its necessity. The campaign includes over 1,700 voice-overs, a 'Speed Stop' feature to prevent missing content during time acceleration, and adjustable AI settings for the final four missions to suit different skill levels. Each mission comes with detailed briefings that are accessible in-game and as downloadable PDFs. Customised aircraft skins are included to enhance the personalisation of the gameplay experience. We hope you took advantage of the F-4E Phantom pre-purchase discount and that the preview of the upcoming F-16C Viper and F/A-18C pilots are to your satisfaction. Also, keep a lookout for Badger633's Operation Green Line campaign, coming in the next DCS update! Thank you again for your passion and support, Yours sincerely,

F-16C Viper Development Report F-16C INS+GPS System Overview The navigation system on the DCS: F-16C Viper is a complicated mixture of technical solutions that are intended to supply the avionics with coordinates, velocity, and angles, that are characterised by precision, availability, integrity and autonomy. This is achieved by the cooperative work of the Inertial Navigation System (INS) and Global Positioning System (GPS) whose navigation inputs are processed through a Kalman filter in the Modular Mission Computer (MMC). Let’s discuss each of the components in detail. INS The Inertial Navigation System is an autonomous device that performs dead reckoning of aircraft coordinates by measuring the accelerations and then integrating them twice whilst taking into account the aircraft’s orientation in space. The latter is obtained from the F-16 ring-laser gyros. This type of INS is termed “strapdown” as there are no rotating parts. Basically, INS consists of three accelerometers, each for one orthogonal axis, and three gyros. The main features of INS improvements are: Autonomy, as it doesn’t require any external signals to do dead reckoning. Stability in a short period of time (5-10 minutes). Noticeable error accumulation over longer periods of time based on the physics of dead reckoning. Together with the integration of accelerations (to update speed) and integration of position (to update coordinates), the small errors at the level of accelerations that are introduced by accelerometer noises and imperfect alignment are integrated twice as well. Furthermore, the larger those errors are, the faster they accumulate due to the so-called integral correction of INS, which updates the local Earth gravitational force vector with the coordinates and adds them into the relative angles of the G vector. Another distinctive feature of INS is the Schuler Oscillation with a period of 84.4 minutes. Due to the integral correction algorithm mentioned above, the INS behaves like a pendulum. In ideal circumstances, it stays in equilibrium while the aircraft moves along the Earth. When coordinate errors appear, it displaces the pendulum from the resting point and it starts oscillating. The larger the errors are, the larger the amplitude of the introduced oscillations. That’s why one may notice that INS errors get smaller at a rate of 84.4 minutes once airborne. GPS Global positioning system measures the aircraft position by measuring the signal propagation delay from GPS satellites to the receiver. Satellite orbits are precisely known, the exact positions of the satellites are computed according to an almanack that is transmitted in the same GPS radio signals. That’s why GPS needs a couple of minutes after the cold to start obtaining the almanack. The moments of the signal transmission are also known and are defined by a very precise atomic clock on board the satellite. Thus, in an ideal case, if the GPS signals are propagated through space with the constant speed of light, as they do in a vacuum, the receiver could precisely determine its position by intersecting the surfaces of equidistant radio signal delays from the satellites. You may think of it as spheres with centres located at the satellite’s positions, although it’s a bit more complicated in real life. However, there are two significant factors that prevent us from obtaining the ideal point of the surface intersections; the ionospheric delay and multipath. Both add unknown time to the actual signal propagation time. Multipath happens when the receiver is placed relatively near the ground and the signal may be reflected from ground objects that results in the signal's edges degrading; this is similar to an echo in the mountains where it’s too hard to tell one word from another. When such delays are unexpectedly added by the receiver, the precise navigation solution gets lost and the output coordinate gets noisy. That’s where military GPS signals help to get a better signal resolution by the use of so-called P-codes, and the usage of dual frequency helps to eliminate the unknown ionospheric delay. Integrated solution. Kalman filtering To summarise the above: we have two navigation systems, both of which have flaws: INS accumulates errors over time, GPS is noisy and prone to interference due to natural factors like multipath and ionospheric delay and to enemy jamming and spoofing. Here is the good news! There is a way to avoid these flaws with the Kalman filter. It takes GPS and INS coordinates together with speeds as its input. The Kalman filter is a great algorithm that is able to get the maximum precision even out of measurements far from ideal, and it takes the best aspects from both systems: the stability and autonomy of INS and the precision of GPS to obtain an integrated navigation solution that is both stable and precise. Furthermore, the Kalman filter knows, in terms of mathematical equations, the dynamic properties of the aircraft that is moving through space. If the aircraft is moving, it predicts where the aircraft will be on the next filter step. That’s why it is called recursive and the filter won’t let erroneous GPS signals decrease the precision of the output navigation solution. Moreover, it is able to dynamically change its measurements vs. prediction weights to adjust to a degraded navigation precision of any input. F/A-18C Update The F/A-18C has been one of our most popular DCS aircraft as it provides a wealth of game play options and is nearly feature-complete. There are though a number of items that we continue to address that will further improve the realism and attention to detail of this DCS flagship aircraft. Flight Model For the past several months, we’ve been improving the flight dynamics of the F/A-18C to represent this aircraft’s unique flight qualities even more accurately. Much of this has been focused on expanding the F/A-18C’s high Angle of Attack (AoA) capabilities by adjusting the stabilizer scheduling. These changes will allow maneuvering up to 50 to 55 AoA, compared to mid-30s earlier. This expanded AoA capability will better allow players to take advantage of the F/A-18Cs outstanding low-speed, high-AoA maneuver capability. Note that this expanded AoA capability can result in a dramatic loss of airspeed, if not careful. Another important improvement is the handling characteristics in Powered Approach (PA) mode when landing. During landing, you will find achieving and maintaining on-speed AoA easier. This is tied to the flight control system changes. Nose pitch effects have also been added when the speedbrake is extended and retracted to match the real F/A-18C. Overall aerodynamic damping has also been improved to better match F/A-18C handling characteristics. Flight Control System The Flight Control System (FCS) has been completely reworked in all channels, and it provides much improved behavior when switching the control logic system between AUTO flaps mode to HALF\FULL flaps. You will find the transition much smoother with little to no un-commanded pitching moments. This will also make getting on-speed during landings much easier. Roll characteristics have also been improved to better match the real aircraft with greater stability in the roll and yaw channels. This also applies to improved behavior around the longitudinal axis when taking off. The yaw channel FCS in PA mode has also been adjusted to improve landing control in a crosswind. In total, the improvements in the FCS will make takeoff and landings much easier. Landing Gear The landing gear shock absorbers were adjusted to match documentation and reference videos. The F/A-18C landing gear articulation is a complex and dynamic process that is accurately modeled for carrier recoveries and touch-and-go. This change also provides improved landing control in a crosswind and addresses excessive G loads when landing. Whilst greatly improved, we will continue to tune this mechanic to allow even more accurate nosewheel touch-and-go behavior to allow lower airspeed rotation. In addition to the landing gear mechanisms, the tires have also been adjusted to provide more authentic friction forces that will be apparent in crosswind takeoff and landings. Engine Engine transition thrust time was adjusted to be more accurate between afterburner and MIL thrust modes. The engine transition time is now faster from afterburner to idle. This allows you to reduce airspeed when cutting the engines to idle more quickly. Autopilot F/A-18C autopilot operation has been improved by tuning its behavior when initiating an altitude hold mode whilst the aircraft is unbalanced. The updated autopilot also improves holding the set altitude when in a roll and initiating an altitude hold mode. Before, you would often lose or gain hundreds of feet. Last, the autopilot control is much smoother when transitioning through waypoints in coupled mode. Automatic Carrier Landing System When activating the Automatic Carrier Landing System (ACLS) in coupled mode, the autopilot will use smoother and improved approach behavior. Get the DCS: F/A-18C at 30% off now during the 2024 Lunar Sale that has been extended to February 25th, 2024. Digital Coalition Air Force Multiplayer Server The Digital Coalition Air Force is a fun and engaging way to enjoy DCS online. The members fly on the EU timezone with DCS: F-15E Strike Eagle, DCS: F-16C Viper, DCS: AV-8B Night Attack V/STOL pilots and controllers. This military simulation group alternates between training and operation seasons. Q1 and Q3 are training seasons when new cadets are screened and trained as per squadron standards. Operation campaign seasons are Q2 and Q4. You can read more about how the F-15E's squadron training season would work here. DCS. Join their Discord. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Bo-105 Miltech-5 The above screenshot shows the current state of the Bo-105, which will be available in three versions: the German Bo 105 PAH 1A1/VBH, the Swedish Hkp9A, and the South Korean Bo-105 as AI only. Aside from the liveries, all three versions will have different internal devices and are offered as separate versions. The external and internal 3D models of all Bo-105 versions will have a high level of detail that is close to photo realistic. All movable parts of the helicopter have been modelled, from rotor blade articulation to circuit breakers. Initial tests have shown the great potential of their new development strategy for internal machine logic. It fits well into the existing DCS API and environment. The program logic changed from event control to situation control. This means that all devices have their own program and are interconnected within a global system. The advantage is that specific control situations do not require special coding. The result is an auto-generated output that is dependent on all the connected devices. An example of this is autorotation. The handling is initiated by the corresponding pilot inputs. The rotor system, as an independent device, reacts like a real Bo-105. Even non programmatically planned situations are handled realistically. This system is termed MEDUSA by Miltech-5. It is a multithreaded system that can handle all devices in different threads. The external and cockpit models, electric system, engines, fuel supply, and rotor system are in advanced development states. The next steps are focused on flight performance, handling, and fine tuning the Bo-105’s behaviours. South Atlantic Development Report Since the release of the DCS: South Atlantic map, RAZBAM has provided a series of updates including new airfields, improved visual appearance and performance. They have also resolved bugs and this is now a much improved map that will see further enhancements this year. A large amount of work has gone into modelling and improving all towns, cities and small hamlets. This includes new building types, Points of Interest (POI), and optimising them for a boost in performance. RAZBAM have also invested time and expense in aerial photography drones to provide improved terrain distribution aesthetics. RAZBAM will be focusing on further ground texture and normal map improvements in the coming months. Please make sure you update to the latest version to enjoy all these new updates or consider a purchase of this large, unique, and historic region of the DCS: South Atlantic. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Unified Release A new era begins For the past several years, we have released DCS in two forms: the Open Beta, which includes the most recent changes to allow broad testing and the Stable version which is based on the most recent Open Beta and has no known crashes, thus the term Stable. In 2024, we will be moving to unified DCS updates. This change has been a common customer request and will streamline our release process. We believe that it will also help avoid version confusion for both single-player missions and multiplayer servers. Starting with our first update of the year in February, we will also be making the same changes to the DCS Steam Edition. Please stay tuned for more details. AviaStorm’s Tornado Development Progress Five 3D artists are currently working on the project, which involves significant personnel commitment. This investment will result in a module that meets your expectations. AviaStorm has had the opportunity to examine many small details of this aircraft for the level of detail that DCS demands. Such details may not initially stand out, or even be noticed by most customers, but they are crucial in the context of creating a masterpiece that is the Tornado. An example includes the emergency RAM air flap and two cooling flaps. “We are dedicated to achieving the level of quality we and Eagle Dynamics aspire to and what is expected from DCS customers.” – AviaStorm Growling Sidewinder Affiliate Program We are pleased to extend our warmest congratulations to Growling Sidewinder as he takes on the roles of affiliate and brand ambassador for DCS. 22. 19 January 2024 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, This week, we are excited to share with you Grinnelli Designs’ update for the DCS: F-100D Super Sabre. Please read the details below and check out the video here: F-100D Dev Log: The Road to Realism. In the most recent DCS Open Beta update, you may have noticed some improvements to procedural grass diversity and shading across terrains such as DCS: The Channel and DCS: Syria. We are continuing to enhance the grass distribution across terrain tiles, and grass blades now bend to achieve a more natural look. This technology will be available in our Terrain Development Kit (TDK) offering our official third party maps the opportunity to enhance low level realism for their terrain maps too. If you are looking for a server to test your skills, then the Grayflag Death From Above PvE server is excellent! Brought to you by Graywo1f and Grimes, this persistent and busy server boasts the ability to save unit positions during server restarts. Join the Grayflag discord now. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics F-100D Super Sabre Development Report “Our dedicated team completed an extensive journey across Texas, Georgia, Ohio, and Indiana, meticulously scanning F-100 aircraft to guarantee the utmost quality and precision. With the infusion of these invaluable resources, our team is channelling creativity and expertise to bring the Super Sabre to life, ensuring every detail captures and preserves the essence of this iconic aircraft.” – Grinnelli Designs An exceptional experience took place in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where an immersive week unfolded due to a fuel valve failure with the last flying F-100. This unforeseen event offered a unique opportunity to engage in detailed aircraft maintenance, capturing essential sounds and aerial footage. These experiences, complemented by insights from veterans, will play a crucial role in shaping this highly realistic module. The project is progressing steadily, focusing on the development of a comprehensive and accurate flight model for the Super Sabre. Through a combination of computational methods, real aerodynamic data, and wind tunnel tests, the team is meticulously refining the model to accurately replicate the intricate dynamics of the actual aircraft. This effort stands as a testament to the team's commitment to delivering a high-quality, authentic experience in the world of DCS. Please make sure you watch the F-100D Dev Log: The Road to Realism. Vegetation Development Progress In the above screenshot, you can see the results of improved procedural grass distribution across terrain tiles. Compared to other types of vegetation, such as shrubs or trees, grass has a more regular standard geometric structure; however, this benefit is outweighed by the huge quantity of distinct and subtle flora that may be found on even fairly small pieces of terrain. In order to provide interactivity and stable frame rates on any but the smallest maps, the brute-force method of covering the entire landscape with individual grass blade models was impractical. Therefore, we continue to work on a more efficient approach to grass distribution, and we enhanced grass shading by using ambient occlusion. We also improved vegetation shading with the release of Screen Space Shadows (SSS). Furthermore we are working on new vegetation visual effects from explosions, gun fire, and aircraft. Grayflag PvE Server Welcome to Grayflag Death From Above, a hardcore persistent multiplayer PvE multiplayer server. We encourage you to team up and liberate territories on one of four servers and conduct strikes on enemy SAMs, factories, bases, runways, and more! Your task is to set up ground units to liberate and capture objectives or defend with ground forces. Please note, the position of units will be saved when the server restarts and you will log straight back into this persistent battlefield. This server also features the Combined Arms module. Find out more on Grayflag discord! Thank you again for your passion and support, Yours sincerely,
  23. 12 January 2023 Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, We hope you all had a wonderful holiday and that the New Year has started well. For those of you who may have missed it, please check out our 2024 and Beyond video. 2024 will see the introduction of the Vulkan API which will offer better frame rates for most players as well as new graphical capabilities such as ray tracing and improved VR performance. In addition to new aircraft, terrains and Vulkan API, DCS core will see many new features, as well as bug fixes and improvements based on your feedback and requests. New modules and core improvements will be developed in conjunction with work on existing modules. Please check out the details below. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics Vulkan for DCS Development Progress With the release of multi-threading and DLSS/FSR, the next big core DCS task is the support for the Vulkan Application Programing Interface (API). Multi-threading was a prerequisite to support the Vulkan API backend and enhance system performance/efficiency. Much of the Vulkan API work over the past several years has focused on adapting the DCS internal tools to seamlessly integrate with optimized functionality to ensure peak performance. This has been a challenging endeavor to rectify all validation errors, streamlining graphics and processing tasks, improving compatibility with Nvidia, AMD, and Intel hardware and a diverse set of drivers, and creating and refining the groundwork for rendering across multiple threads that will allow even more advanced graphic capabilities. As we move into 2024, we continue to optimize and refine performance to exceed what is possible with DirectX 11. It is important that we continue to push graphic standards whilst maintaining excellent performance for both 2D, and even more so, VR. However, like multi-threading and DLSS/FSR, results will vary between players based on their hardware and settings. DCS Core Development Progress Here are some of the interesting functionality improvements coming to DCS: Save Game. Our new game persistence system will allow you to save mid-mission and return to that save point at a later time. Replay System. The current track file system was originally created as a debugging system that simply reproduced game input to construct a replay of the mission. However, this system depends on limited DCS version changes between when the track was recorded and when being played back. The system in development for 2024 is designed to address this and will offer additional capabilities. Infantry Unit Improvements. We will be working on new infantry models and animations in 2024 along with more life-like behaviors. New Air, Ground, and Naval Units. New units will be available in 2024 that will range from World War II to modern day. Each unit requires thousands of man-hours to create and will be provided as optional packs at their highest levels of detail. Standard versions will also be available for free to ensure both single-player and multiplayer compatibility for all. Graphic Improvements. In addition to the graphic improvements that the Vulkan API will afford, we will also be making improvements to the Render Graph for better VR performance, new and improved special effects, and further advancements in the FLIR rendering system. Weather. The weather focus for 2024 will be on a new fog system and towering clouds with appropriate line-of-sight blocking. Voice Chat. 2023 saw great connectivity improvements and a unique, real-time voice processing allowing users to modify voices to replicate different radio eras and technologies. In 2024 we will continue to integrate radios to vehicles, ships, and other units. We also plan external application support and other player-requested features. Spherical Earth. One of the biggest changes coming to DCS is the Spherical Earth. This substantial work is ongoing however we do not expect to release it this year due to the size of the endeavour. Dynamic Campaign. Please read our Newsletter for 29 December 2023 where we discuss DCSDC in detail. Air Traffic Control. Although we have a solid design to provide an exceptional ATC experience, much of the work in 2024 will involve how we generate the voice dialog and create a much-improved interface. Improved Accessibility. To make DCS more accessible to new players, the Graphic User Interface will be updated to make it more user-friendly and include a Launcher with new capabilities. New interactive missions are also being developed to shallow the learning curve with popular modules like the F/A-18C. Air-To-Air Missile Development. We plan to migrate the R-27 (AA-10) family and R-73 (AA-11) missiles to a new component structure and flight dynamics. This will be coupled with a new proximity fuse model that accounts for Doppler closing speed, modified seekers, and a more realistic interaction model between the missile and the supporting radar. This will be done within the larger MiG-29 project framework. Other missile types will also be developed in the same way. Air-To-Ground Munitions. We continue to develop new munitions as well as update existing air-to-ground weapons to include a new component model with advanced flight performance. This includes guided bombs and tactical missiles. Regarding Anti-Radiation Missiles (ARM), we are developing narrow-band specialized seekers that were used with early ARMs of the 1960 to 1980s prior to the more modern AGM-88 HARM class of missiles with broadband seekers. These older ARMs, such as the AGM-45 Shrike of the Vietnam era, will be modeled with other older ARM systems. ECM. We are developing more advanced principles of electronic warfare that will allow simulation of a greater variety of electronic warfare attack and countermeasure modes and capabilities. This is a very complex task and confidential subject. We cannot promise quick results, but work is underway to deliver a satisfactory simulation of this opaque area of modern warfare. New Landing Gear. A new two-component landing gear system was released for the Mosquito last year. We will continue integrating it to other aircraft this year. We plan a separate newsletter article that will explain the new capabilities and what it brings to landing gear behaviors. Module Support Development Progress In parallel with the development of the new modules discussed in last week’s newsletter, we will also continue to update, fix, and improve existing aircraft and maps. Some of these efforts include, but are not limited to: Radar Improvements. In 2023 we released both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the radar improvements for the F-16C and F/A-18C. Phase 3 efforts will continue with a focus on better Single Target Track (STT) simulation, false target generation, and more realistic look-down effects. Data Transfer Card (DTC). For each aircraft, the DTC consists of a variety of areas that are first modeled such as datalink, navigation, radio, weapons, sensors, and more. Once these elements are completed, they will be organized into a unified DTC interface. Fuze Settings. All modern aircraft will benefit from the new and more advanced fuzing options first introduced for our WWII modules. This includes the new payload interface in the Mission Editor and Rearm/Refuel Window that will allow authentic setting nose and tail fuzes and new 3D rendering of fuze selections. DCS: F-16C Viper. Priority work for 2024 includes the Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod (ATP), a 1st perspective pilot model, and other improvements like new HUD symbology and RWR Handoff tones. DCS: F/A-18C. The biggest task for 2024 is a refactoring of the flight model and flight control system, landing gear physics, and improved external lights. Once the new external lighting system is complete for the F/A-18C, this technology will be used for other aircraft modules. DCS: AH-64D. With the addition of the Fire Control Radar (FCR) core functions, next steps in 2024 include the addition of functions and modes such as LINK and remaining radar modes, new George and Flight commands, and the campaign. Supercarrier. 2024 will see continued work on the new plane director operations that move aircraft out of the landing area to a parking location. This is in addition to work on the Air Boss deck and Ready Room. Mosquito FB VI. This year we continue working on the features from the Early access list. Including AI crew members and the Drift recorder. Rest assured, our other modules and maps will also receive improvements and enhancements. Winter Sale Hurry! Offers end soon. Yours sincerely, Eagle Dynamics 2024 & Beyond Video A Look Ahead Whereas the 2023 focus of Eagle Dynamics was primarily on DCS core improvements like multithreading, DLSS/FSR, Voice Chat, and bug fixes, our partners had an exciting year that included new products like the F-15E Strike Eagle, new Mirage F1 versions, the Normandy 2 and Sinai maps, and many fantastic campaigns. 2024 promises to be an eventful year with many projects in development such as the full fidelity MiG-29A Fulcrum, CH-47F Chinook, F6F Hellcat, and the Afghanistan, Iraq, and Marianas World War II maps. Our 3rd party partners are working diligently on the F-4E Phantom II, A-7E Corsair II, MiG-23 Flogger, C-130 Hercules, F4U Corsair, La-7, OH-58D Kiowa, and the Kola map. 2024 & Beyond Roadmap Our Current Plan Let’s take a brief look at the new aircraft under development in 2024, in no particular order. Detailed specifications and features will be listed for each product during each product announcement as we get closer to the release. New Eagle Dynamics Aircraft DCS: CH-47F Much of the 2023 CH-47F work focused on the creation of the external model, cockpit/cargo models as well as systems and FM. The model now accurately reflects a US Army CH-47 from the mid-2000s. Much of the work now involves the finalisation of the flight dynamics and flight control system, along with the many multi-function display pages and sub-pages. As with all DCS aircraft since the Ka-50, the CH-47 will have fully modelled electrical, hydraulic, fuel, and other systems that exist within the simulation as “live” systems to manage voltage, pressure, flow rates, temperatures and all other operational systems. To support advancements in the DCS logistical system, the CH-47F will also be equipped with cargo and sling management capabilities as well as defensive gun positions. DCS: F6F Hellcat Also started in 2023, the Hellcat has made great progress. When creating the external model, internal structural modelling was created to provide a very accurate and realistic structure in order to enhance damage modelling. The flight model development is in full swing, and it is being created to match first-hand knowledge of its handling and performance in cooperation with The Fighter Collection. The Hellcat will not exist in a vacuum though, and Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO) opponent aircraft are already in development, as well PTO specific ground and naval forces. DCS: MiG-29A Fulcrum We are excited to announce our first full fidelity 4th generation Russian fighter: the MiG-29A Fulcrum! The Fulcrum has been a massively successful, single-seat fighter that was developed to counter the F-15, F/A-18, and F-16 during the height of the Cold War. Today, it serves numerous armed forces, and will fill an important role in DCS. Based on publicly available manuals, the DCS Fulcrum will be a 1980s era MiG-29, but it will still be a potent threat to other DCS aircraft with its array of radar- and infrared-guided missiles, its 30mm cannon, and unguided air-to-ground weapons. In the right hands, the MiG-29 can be a tough opponent with its Helmet Mounted Sight paired with high-off boresight R-73 air-to-air missiles. New Eagle Dynamics Maps 2024 will also be a great year for new maps. Our Terrain Development Kit (TDK) continues to grow in capabilities each year, and these new maps will leverage these features to create the best maps yet. DCS: Afghanistan First hinted at a year ago, we are happy to confirm that an Afghanistan map is coming to DCS. A flash point spanning thousands of years, Afghanistan served as the backdrop to two of the largest conflicts in living memory. More focused on Counterinsurgency (COIN) warfare than large force-on-force battles, the Afghanistan map will bring a new mode of warfare to DCS battles and our most popular aircraft like the AH-64D, Mi-24P, A-10C, Su-25, F-16C, F/A-18C, will be great mission choices. DCS: Iraq We are also excited to announce an Iraq map coming to DCS. From Operation Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom to the War on Terror, Iraq has been one of the most significant flash points of the late-20th and early 21st centuries. The Iraq map will initially be centred on Baghdad to best provide War-on-Terror and War on Isis scenarios. Later, the map will be expanded south to provide older scenarios like Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. DCS: Marianas World War II To support the DCS: F6F Hellcat and other PTO aircraft and units coming to DCS, we have been adapting the current Marianas for the past year and into 2024. The map is based on painstakingly researched documents, photos, and accounts of the Mariana Islands in the summer of 1944, at the time of the Battle of the Marianas between the United States and Imperial Japan. This will be a free map that leverages our latest TDK for improved performance and realism. In parallel with these new product efforts, we will be focusing on continued development of existing modules such as, but not limited to, the F-16C, F/A-18C, AH-64D, and Supercarrier. Winter Sale Extended Extended! By popular demand, we have extended the DCS Winter Sale by an additional week.
