  1. DCS: Kiowa Warrior 3rd July 2020 Dear Fighter Pilot, Partners and Friends, Our third-party partners Polychop Simulations have been working hard during the past few months on DCS: Kiowa Warrior. “As you have seen, there are a number of detailed videos about the DCS Kiowa Warrior on Youtube, and we are very thankful to have Barundus and all the other pilots on the team.” - Your Polychop Simulations Team Alongside the substantial bug-fixing schedule, we have been making improvements to our DCS World Voice Chat system. These are necessary steps needed to achieve our goal of high quality, realistic communications embedded within DCS World. We still have a way to go but we are confident that it will be up to user expectations when the system goes final. We would like to kindly remind you that the DCS World Summer Sale 2020 will continue on our Eshop until the 19th of July. For those of you who fly in DCS World Steam Edition, the sale will end on the 9th of July at 10:00 PST. We hope this will give you all a chance to land some great deals and add some serious stuff to your hangar. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, The Eagle Dynamics Team Kiowa Warrior Polychop Simulations “With the help of the pilots we are currently evaluating details, which also includes the refinement and corrections of the avionics system of the aircraft. During the coming weeks, we hope to inte- grate the moving map feature to the avionics and also finetune the weapons and the flight model of the Hellfire missiles and will integrate another rocket type, that we have not shown or talked about yet, that will make it possible to properly engage infantry and light armoured vehicle units in DCS World. During the past months we have also worked on certain aspects of the flight model that either needed corrections or refinements. For example, the torque values of forward flight at all possible altitudes, speeds and temperatures. Currently, we are working on the hover torque requirements to accurately mimic real aircraft as closely as possible. We are also looking at the flight character- istics below ETL, effective translational lift. Performance pages have recently been added to the DCS Kiowa Warrior MFD, which will enable you to ask the system to calculate your power for certain flight envelopes in level and hover flight. Night vision has also been added, which we plan to update prior to release with a new feature never before seen in DCS World Helicopters, but we do not want to reveal anything yet, because we can not yet foresee obstacles we may come across that might delay such a special night vision feature. We are confident that on release, we will have realised the most accurate Kiowa Warrior representation in the game market. At the moment we have 19 US Army liveries of various Kiowa Warrior troops, these include older aircraft markings. 16 Croatian army liveries were added as well, which is the complete fleet of the Kiowa Warriors they operate, including the tail number 327 that crashed on the 27th of January 2020 and resulted in the unfortunate loss of the aircraft and crew. Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the crew. Since everyone was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, our production has slowed down a bit during the past weeks, because we as a team were also affected. Nevertheless we are back to normal again and our team is back to normal status because we have the desire to keep our promise for a release in 2020, which also includes the time required for the quality verification process by Bell Helicopters. That said, we are also currently working on 3 stand-alone campaigns for the DCS Kiowa Warrior. Finally we hope everyone stays safe and is excited for the release of DCS: Kiowa Warrior.” Your Polychop Simulation Team Check out new work in progress screenshots Voice Chat Development Report We continue to work on improving the functionality of Voice Chat in DCS World. At the moment, testing is underway to add player rooms and the ability to invite friends for private communication. In addition, the automatic creations of rooms between the crew of one aircraft (intercom) and the ability to create special missions rooms for coalition forces. This is done through the scripting trigger system function when creating missions. It is useful when specific communication channels are needed with air traffic control, sub-channels within squadrons and with ground crew. These features are planned for release in the upcoming updates. Following the update, the Voice Chat Development Team will be focussing on the integration of radio device voice communication in the game. We understand that this function is highly demanded and greatly appreciate your patience whilst we work on it. Yours sincerely, The Eagle Dynamics Team Bug Killer Beta Testing After the last two Open Beta (OB) releases, we received motivating feedback from our community pertaining to issues in need of immediate attention. We have logged and are actively tracking over 2,500 bugs. In the last week, we have squashed close to 283 bugs and will continue this pace for the next two weeks. We have decided to change the release schedule of DCS World Open Beta in order to allow for more detailed Quality Assurance and testing periods, but most importantly for our team to fix bugs and enhance performance. DCS World Open Beta 2.5.6.50979 changelog WWII Radars Freya and Würzburg-Riese The Freya radar was an early warning system developed by the Germans and technically more advanced than the British Chain Home, but less efficient. Because of it’s smaller size it was semi-mobile. However due to its complexity, only 1,000 units were produced. The low-band 53cm wavelength Würzburg radar was the primary ground based radar for the Wehrmacht’s Luftwaffe. During the war, the Freya and Würzburg pair made for excellent ‘spot and track’ systems capable of determining enemy aircraft range and altitude. The Würzburg-Riese known as the Giant Würzburg was developed based on the same circuitry and featured a much larger 7.4m antenna and more powerful transmitter able to provide up to 70 kilometers of range. The Würzburg-Riese was used to direct pilots towards incoming aircraft. Over 50,000 bombers were traced and shot down with the help of these radars. They are significant corner stones and mark the beginning or electronic warfare. We are excited to share our progress and look forward to your battle reenactments using these models and the countermeasure tactics needed to cope with German radar coverage. Thank you for your energy and support and as always, fly safe. Yours sincerely, The Eagle Dynamics Team Syria A DCS World Terrain This week our third-party Ugra Media announced that DCS: Syria is approaching it’s final stages of development. This map covers most of the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea, it includes several climatic zones and territories of 5 states - Syria, Israel, Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan. Since the times of Ancient Egypt, the Roman and Ottoman empires, large-scale wars were fought across these lands. Thousands of years ago these battles were fought with swords and arrows, today these areas have become the theatres of grandiose air combat simulation. During the Arab-Israeli confrontation, Soviet MiGs, American Phantoms and French Mirages fought here. And today almost the entire arsenal of DCS combat aircraft and helicopters rise into the sky above this territory. DCS Syria will bring 32 aerodromes including the international airports of Damascus, Beirut, Adana and Haifa. Check out the Ancient Palmyra districts Development Screenshots. Our map of the South East of England and North Eastern France encompasses historical airfields, urban areas, roads and railways, ports and other features that make it the perfect setting for the World War II air war in Europe between 1940 and 1945. This highly detailed map also provides a wonderful opportunity to mass deploy ground assets and to re-enact epic air battles and enjoy ground operations not yet seen in DCS World. Take advantage of Early Access 20% discount on The Channel Map P-47D Thunderbolt Early Access Release This week we Introduce the heavyweight Republic P-47D Thunderbolt, which first took to the sky in May, 1941. Nicknamed the Jug, it was a real workhorse of the Allied victory, weighing nearly twice as much as the British Spitfire. Fully loaded, it could deliver about half the payload of a B-17 Flying Fortress. The P-47D was popular amongst pilots, with an astounding safety record, a roomy cockpit and an enhanced visibility bubble canopy. The Republic Aviation factories in New York, Indiana and Buffalo assembled 15,600 units between 1942 and 1945. The Pratt & Whitney R-2800-59 Double Wasp radial engine enabled the Juggernaut to keep up with the nimble and lightning-fast North American P-51D Mustang. Thunderbolts were sent to Britain, France and even the Soviet Union, where they largely served in interceptor roles. The new DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt is designed to work on the latest DCS World 2.5.6 and is not compatible with previous versions. It takes advantage of our latest graphics and texture technology, enabling you to push the limits of your system, whilst maintaining good frame rates. We hope you will enjoy this update to the World War II era product range and look forward to your constructive feedback, which helps us deliver better products. AIM-120 AMRAAM Development Report As stated in previous news, we have spent a lot of time performing Computational Fluid Dynamics research. Almost 250 different calculations for every missile variant have been made. Our results have enabled us to simulate aerodynamic characteristics with a much higher level of accuracy. In contrast to the old missile dynamics model, the new one includes stability and control characteristics. We have calculated missile mechanical properties such as center of gravity and moment of inertia before ignition and after burnout. More major updates include; revised data for rocket motor performance, ballistics and range. Development of a velocity-altitude adaptive autopilot. Frequency response with the addition of deflection acceleration feedback. The construction of the electromechanical fin actuator assembly and Step response reaction control system. Autopilot and lofted trajectory for long-range shots. This includes more realistic AG tracking modes and FLIR tracking of aerial targets in cooperation with the radar. In this week's update, we explore the inclusion of the IN ZONE LAUNCH ACCEPTABLE REGION (IZLAR) for the JDAM. This provides additional delivery information and will be tied to the later inclusion of pre-planned IZLARs and multiple attack points. We hope that these videos help you learn the new features of the F/A-18C and look forward to your feedback. Thank you for your passion and support and as always, fly safe.
  6. Stable Release 2.5.6 29 May 2020 Dear Fighter Pilot, Partners and friends, After substantial testing, DCS World 2.5.6 has moved from Early Access into Stable state. This version encompasses a number of updates to the environment, notably water transparency, environment lighting and tone-mapping. It also includes the JF-17 Thunder and recently released Supercarrier. We would like to take this opportunity to share some screenshots of the Marianas Map as we continue to enhance this highly realistic operational, tactical and procedural training environment. The Marianas Islands are a crescent-shaped archipelago comprising fifteen dormant volcanoes, situated in the western North Pacific Ocean and are, since WWII of strategic importance to the USA. Our integration of Varjo Technologies VR/XR equipment is progressing well. Varjo offers unique features which are of great value, in particular for professional and military users. We would like to remind you that the Eagle Dynamics Bonus program will end on the 1st of June. The program was replaced last year with the Miles & More Program while the previous program was being phased out. We trust that you are enjoying the Early Access release of the Supercarrier. Thank you for your passion and support. Yours sincerely, The Eagle Dynamics Team DCS World 2.5.6 Stable Release DCS World 2.5.6 represents one of the biggest updates since the launch of DCS World 2.5 and offers powerful new tools capable of CPU load distribution and FPS management when using peripheral hardware. Many of the improvements in this update are thanks to your feedback and requests, we can’t wait to hear what you think. The Stable release covers over 700 improvements, features and fixes. Read the full changelog. Marianas Development Report Rota Island, also known as the Friendly Island is 19km in length and has a population of 3,500 people. It is the southernmost island of the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands. It has been modelled in extraordinary detail and is close to completion. We continue to work on the organised, unincorporated territory of the United States in Micronesia; Guam. This island was captured by the Japanese in 1941 and occupied for almost 3 years. The American forces recaptured the island on the 21st of July, 1944; Liberation Day commemorates this victory. Special attention is being given to the Andersen Air Force Base located approximately 4km northeast of Yigo. Andersen AFB is one of two critical air bases in the Asia Pacific region. Guam’s almost unrestricted airspace and it’s close proximity to the Farallon de Medinilla Island, a naval bombing range 250km north, make it an ideal training environment. Andersen AFB is home to 36th Wing (PACAF), 734th Air Mobility Support Squadron (Air Mobility Command) and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Twenty-Five (HSC-25). We continue to improve the cross balance of colour and gamma between terrain textures (vegetation and ground), trees and other objects (infrastructure). The water’s fluidity, colour and transparency have also been tuned for more realistic characteristics. See screenshots. We are now working on the P-47D Thunderbolt and The Channel Early Access Map and look forward to sharing the progress with you over the coming weeks. 12. Free For All April 17th, 2020 Dear fighter pilots, partners and friends, The global spread of COVID-19 is affecting every single one of us. We are a people-first company, and we believe that technology can change lives and give hope. To study the virus, protect the vulnerable and beat this thing requires that we all play a part. We want to update you about what we’re doing. Last month we gave the opportunity for all to try and test our products for a two day period at a time. This was well received and a total of over 200 thousand modules and trials were downloaded during this free event. In view of last months response, we are pleased to announce our upcoming Free For All event, starting April 19th, where you are welcome to try any and all our products (except campaigns) for free and without limitation for one month. This unlimited access to all our suite of products, including our top fighter jets, such as the F-16C, F/A-18C and A-10C Warthog will help take your mind off things for a while, giving you the opportunity to try something new, and to own it for 50% or less than the normal price.* We know that this is a small contribution to your personal lives but we hope that you will take full advantage of the offer and help the time fly by. In addition to this, we will be donating 10% of our net turnover generated during the event to Children First, a foundation that we have become very involved with for the past few years. This organisation supports the work of an amazing Dr Stefano Scaringella, a Capucin Priest and surgeon who has dedicated the past 40 years of his life to saving children and to promoting health in Madagascar, one of the poorest nations in the world.
