In fact there is some evidence to suggest....that he is right:thumbup:. I too would like to see the AA self defense implemented. Its not a case of "dumbing down" more a case of looking at what can be done and, in my opinion should be done. We attack helo drivers deserve all the latest real world mods available. Vladimir would see to it!:smilewink: Its here in the specs:- http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/row/ka-50.htm 1x 2A42 30-mm cannon [250 HE-Frag + 250 AP] 2 - AT-16 VIKhR ATGM (6 each) 2 - 80-mm rockets (20 each) 2 - Twin 23-mm gun pods [940 rounds] 4 - 500-kg bombs 2 - AA-11/ARCHER AAM External fuel tanks (500 liters) Further:- "External stores are mounted on underwing external hardpoints. Each wing has two hardpoints for a total of four stations. A typical mix for targeting armor formations is 12x AT-16 ATGMs, 500x 30-mm cannon rounds, and 2x 20-round pods of 80-mm folding fin unguided rockets. The 30-mm cannon is the same as on the BMP-2. It also carries guided air-to-air missiles IGLA-V (Needle C), already extensively tested and sold to buyers abroad. " So anyone good at mods want to do this one? You would have a large following of fans! Regards.

Hello Steve. Ah, so its you and your friend who are responsible for my interest in a multi monitor set up for this superb sim, Black Shark!!:D I will share what I know about the hardware, I have the following on my wish list:- 2 24 " monitors at 1920 x 1080 (1920 x 1200's are rather expensive) a 6970 card 1 Mini Display Port to DVI ACTIVE adapter. The plan is to run my current 24" monitor and one of the new monitors on DVI cables and the third monitor with the Active Mini Display adaptor cable. My PSU is rated at 850 watts, the 6970 needs 200 watts, from here:- http://www.guru3d.com/article/radeon-6950-6970-review/11 The question is exactly what needs altering in the BS lua files and what the alterations accomplish? I thought it would just be a case of setting up the extended Eyefinity desktop and then running Black Shark? However it seems there are "modifications" to do before the project will work? I need to understand how these work, I do not like trial and error!:book: Regards.

I am interested if any of you guys, who fly the Black Shark in Eyefinity, with three monitors, alter the "snapview" file in order to gain a correct viewpoint? In the below U-tube video, the poster describes editing the "snapviews" file? Just wondering if this was the typical edit to achieve a good result in Eyefinity? Vid here, with the details of the snapview edit below the video:- This like a "before I buy the hardware" question:unsure:. Also, I have not come across any needed edits in order for BS to run correctly in Eyefinity. Which I had always assumed it just ran "out of the box"? Regards.

I know this is a well known graphics anomaly in Black Shark, however I have just spent quite a long time trying to find the fix and eliminate it. I thought at first it was my graphics card and spent an age altering the settings in Nhancer!! Nope, its in the sim!! A dx9 code anomaly. To all new users the fix is a download from LockOnFiles and uses Modman to install. Here is the link:- http://www.lockonfiles.com/index.php/files/file/1315-dcs-no-cloud-shadows-mod/ If I had been able to locate this more efficiently it would have saved me considerable time. Also its such an obvious "glitch". The horizon, viewed from the cockpit, has vertical bars that shimmer and are related to the cloud shadows. It spoils the superb realism this sim offers. Hope this helps anyone like myself who thought it was their graphics card settings. Best Regards.

There is no other helicopter combat simulation ( and probably never will be ) that has the top quality simulation credentials Black Shark has. Totally immersive and if your of a type ( and I think we all here are) that has to learn something well to "do it " well, this sim beats them all. The single seat battlefield helicopter role, as envisioned by Kamov, has to be learnt and followed if any sort of success is to be achieved. Not to mention you have to fly a helicopter well first!! Regards.

Any ideas as to which TV? I always liked the SONY? Cheaper than a Dell 30" Ultrasharp, which is lotto winners only! Two Iiyama 24" ( with the 24" I already have ) would be less expensive than a SONY? Also you would get that "surround effect". I have thought the Track IR has a strange "immersive" quality of its own. When you become totally absorbed in a mission, I would suspect that your perception would tend ignore the extra side monitors ( which are peripheral anyway) since you are directing your view, at the action focal point, with the Track IR. Does that make any sense?? Or am I trying to make out a case for a single large screen? I guess that unless you have tried out an eyefinity setup, its all very speculative. When you dont have THAT much doe its gotta be a correct choice! EDIT. I have recently read that in eyefinity, if you use the "besal adjust" there will be a loss of some resolution? More ammo for the large TV or single monitor solution? Regards.

I am of like mind. 1. Big single monitor- 26", 27" or 30"? or 2. 3 x 24", ( cant afford 3 x 30? ) The HD TV's I dont think have the resolution of a dedicated monitor, even though they are HD? Would like to see one running BS! I am still wringing my hands and trying to decide! Have any of you guys noticed the left hand screen in the vid clip? It doesn't look correct to me? The right monitor shows the Shark's window frame and the left monitor shows the view is "open ", like he was flying with the door open maybe? It almost looks like the left monitor view is stretched? ( or is this just the angle they have their video camera) Anyone see this? Have a look at what he says about his addition to a lua file, in his comments. ( there is just one alteration, I don't know what it does? Snapview or something? ) As far as I know, all you do is set up Eyefinity with the CCC as 1 large monitor and the definition correct for the three, ie, 5760 x 1080 and you're done. As long as all three monitors are the same resolution, eyefinity should work. There shouldn't be any need to alter the files within Black Shark? Just set up the GUI for the new resolution. Regards.

Hi all, I am seriously considering a "surround" monitor set up, I was wondering what anyone considers what the "best" set up would be? I am thinking to go the Eyefinity route and with three 24" monitors at 1920 x 1080. I currently have an Nvidia GTX 285 but would go for an ATI 6970! Here is the video that inspired me:- Regards.

Hi, I havn't come across the AI traffic on runways yet. I just recall Falcon 4.0 Allied Persuit, which was my last total immersive Battle Sim. If I remember, that had some pretty good AI at or around the airbase.I recall one occasion returning from a difficult mission and entering a massive "stack"! To my surprise, the lady ATC expertly guided me down through about 8 aircraft. I didn't need to call an emergency, I was fascinated by the accuracy and the feeling of immersion was almost complete. In Falcon, I dont recall seeing any AI pilots doing strange stuff upon landing! So perhaps this aspect of BS needs looking at. Hope A10C has it sorted? How old is Falcon now, 10+ years? Back on topic, I did a night mission ( my own ) and incorporated AFAC aircraft to drop parachute flares at various target areas, using zones to trigger them, as I flew into each zone! Used loops to get the Frogs to refly the target zones. Everything worked! All I can say is amazing!:D Very amazing. The sight of those jets dropping the flares, right on cue, Perhaps some parts of the AI are coded and tested and therefore work well, whilst other aspects appear not to. However, this sim has me putting in some very late nights:lol: Still, as has been pointed out here and elsewhere, the AI can and do act in strange ways. If all the issues are addressed though, I bet we would need a complete HD just for BS! I'd buy one:cheer3nc: Regards.

Yes. A10 is on my wish list. But not untill I have my Russian Helicopter wings! I have noticed some AI idiosyncracies...Tank drivers drink a little too much vodka and end up at 70+ degree angles, on slopes,...sometimes. But thats Tank drivers for you..... Uspekhov!

Going off topic a little, its an interesting subject, night flying, from the challenge aspect of the sim. I can appreciate the Ka-50A, as depicted in this sim, as being an extremely demanding aircraft to fly well, especially at night. It does require the pilot to utilise all the avionics and automated systems to the fullest extent, in order to accomplish any mission. The absence of the (N) variants enhanced night capabilities, perhaps actually makes the (A) even more of a challenge!:smilewink: The NVG ( wonderful now with the "fix" ) and with some careful tuning of the cockpit lights and dimmer controls on the HUD, Shkval and ABRIS, its possible to fly and fight without FLIR or mm radar. Certainly more of a skill challenge! When the mission is a success, there is even more of that feeling of satisfaction at having done it without the expensive avionics in, say the AH-64. Успехов! (Uspekhov!) Now I am learning Russian!:clap_2:

Hi Paul, no your spot on, thanks! It just took me a little time to find the "right click" on the weps loadout in the mission editor! Since I was interested in developing some night missions. Even though its the KA-50A and not the KA-50N ( Night attack enhanced variant!) Now comes the training to employ the correct methods in the attack phase. This mission development part of the sim gets more immersive the more I delve. The possibilities are endless. It occured to me this is a very good Battlefield simulator. I have been adding tanks, APC's etc to a mission to defend an airbase and foud that a couple of T80's can do a lot of damage to literally anything? And a wingman or two adds a whole new dimension........ Regards.
-
OK. Here's what I discovered. This isn't in the manual, I don't think? At the Mission arming screen, Right Click on the weapons loadout you wish to change and from the drop down list, select your preferred options! A mix of 80M illumination rockets and Vikhr's is selectable for a night Anti- Armor mission! Although you can select any combinations on the 4 racks! No need to "edit" any miz file, its all there in the mission editor! Although, in reality, I doubt a pilot would have the control over his own weapons loadout. But for us, as Mission Planners, this feature is priceless!! Nice one DCS! благодарность!!! Regards.
-
Many thanks. I will try this out tonight! Together with the NVG "fix" the KA-50A is very challenging at night. I wonder what a KA-50N upgrade would be like IR pod + mm wave radar:- http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/row/ka-50.htm Regards. Edit: The "miz" file when opened in Notepad++ is encrypted! I do not know how to view this file or if it can be edited.

Thanks again JujuMan....its very good, an important alteration! Especially on large or multi monitor systems! NV now looks very real! Perhaps you could do an avionics upgrade to KA-50N, for us. I am sure DCS would be willing to employ you! Oh and zdXu....No Sir, NO Fantasy!.....please read the below link. I fly simulations that are based on accuracy. The latest KA-50N does seem to have exactly what I was referring to. Optic and avionics upgrades are commonplace in the industry:- http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/row/ka-50.htm Specifically:- The HOKUM uses a low-light level TV or thermal sighting, a laser range-finder (10 km), FLIR, air data sensor, and digital data-link which interface with a fire control com-puter, an autopilot, a helmet sighting system and HUD for target location, acquisition, designation, and firing. Night/Weather Capabilities: This aircrafts avionics package ensuring a full day/night, all weather capability. If it is to be employed at night in an attack role, it must be fitted with a night targeting pod. This pod includes a FLIR, a millimeter wave radar, and an electro-optical sight takes up one of the underwing pylons. The Ka-50N, and Ka-52 are capable of performing attack missions in day/night, and all-weather conditions. res ipsa loquitur Regards.

When planning a mission in the mission editor, is there a way to vary the weapons loads? I would like to fly night attack missions and would like to load the S-8OM Illumination-rockets. So far I can not locate a supply of these!:helpsmilie: Regards.
-
Hi JujuMan, Superb fix for the NVG!!:clap_2: Now can anyone find a way to fit IR and Low Light Level optics in the Shkval?:helpsmilie: Best Regards.

Interesting subject, the "transparency issue". Would spoil your day if you can not eyeball the enemy. However, your AI wingmen can! Digitally, so to speak! To locate targets efficiently on the battlefield, I would recommend using the wingmen on recon tasks. The advantage is mainly twofold. Firstly he/they will send back information of all units in the recon area. This is achieved via data link, you just accept the data in to your ABRIS. Giving you a good tactical set of positons on the map. It is very fast and efficient, provided the wingmen are adept enough not to get shot down:doh: Seconly, they will engage any targets you prioritise. If you want them to destroy AAA, they will.....Provided they have the weapons and skill:smilewink: If you want to take out the targets yourself....and with the weapons on the Kamov, why wouldn't you? You now know their position, you know where to look, recall your team..and take the shots yourself :D However there is always the old saying....:- No battle plan ever survives contact with the enemy. — Field Marshall Helmuth Carl Bernard von Moltke:surrender: Regards.

Assigning new key commands to AXIS control?
Xxx replied to JujuMan's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I can only say what I did. On the Saitek X52 Pro, I had to assign the Num* and Num/ to the "wheel" on the Throttle Stick. ( Also found using a Macro helped to speed it up). The X52 programming interface is pretty straight forward, after a couple of tries. I dont think you can put it on an axis, although I havn't tried! Regards. -
I would use the wingmen to fly a recon in the area you need to check out. From a safe hover:-:book: Select the area you want to recon by Shkval Target Point Designation. Then input the TP into either the INU ( PVI-800) or the ABRIS. Then decide which method to use to send the TP to your wingman/wingmen ( more wingmen the better ), either use the INU or the ABRIS TP position, or you can Data Link by a quick hand off. The quickest way, would be to quick hand off TP data to wingmen, without creating a target on the ABRIS or a position in the INU. Just send your TP, by leaving the "target type" button on the Data Link panel unpressed, press the intended recipient button, or ALL and then press "Send/Memory" memory button on the Data Link Panel. The Coordinates on the ground, where your Shkval is locked, will be sent to the recipients. Then you assign the recon to any of your wingmen ( they already have the TP in their ABRIS) by radio command. You will order them to recon at the Data Link Point you have just sent them.:pilotfly: Any information on detected targets will be returned to you via Data Link. When you receive the Data from the recon, the VMU will announce "Received Target Data". Then the Data Link Panel will display target type buttons and the sender's flight number. Save this data by pressing the "Send/Memory" button on the Data Link Panel. Your ABRIS will then show a non-blinking target marker and the Data Link Panel buttons will stop blinking. There's your enemy! You could order you wingmen to attack or return to your position and then plan whatever assault would work ( Pincer etc.) Combat proceedures using Data Link and wingmen! Best regards.
