Ouch. Bummer. Audio files and structure are now encrypted
It is not a problem. You can replace any of DCS sounds. For RWR sounds - take my example and unzip it to "c:\Users\[YOUSERNAME]\Saved Games\DCS\"
In the example I just put 500Hz sound for all 3 RWR files with different pitches. Replace it with your files and change the sdef files from the zip accordingly

@btd Can you please comment?
I think you're absolutely right. But I will consult our specialists just in case. And if they confirm it, I'll correct it quickly. Thank you very much for the report.

The work on the mi-8 sounds is still in progress. I have to say sorry, cause something has already got into the update, but it is not the final version. We are working on it. Please wait for new updates. And hope for your understanding

@btd this one is for you: as said above in Polychop's message, when the ED Mistral file is used, there is a delay of about 2 seconds between the missile launch and the sound of the missile launch playing (and no, I wasn't looking from 700 meters away lol).
I am not sure I can help here, it is not my playground. But I can try to ask some of developers to help.

Hi BTD,
Any word on when your cockpit sound mod makes it into an update?
Cheers!
Hi,
as I see, it was merged in September into stable and OB versions. Don't you have this update?
-
I've checked sonic boom and catapulting sounds. From my side (trunk version) evrth works fine.

Many thanks for your report. I can confirm the bug. We'll investigate where's the problem.

@feipan Please give me more detail. From your ref I noticed more brighter whistle sound of the low rpm engine.
And I recorded two flybys from DCS to compare with a slightly elevated compressor whistle. Please check:

Just to confirm, the way the "helmet" slider works is not standardized across 3rd party developers?
Its beyond my knowledge, sorry. There are many contexts for the sounds. And the developer should know about it.
For the "Helmet" context we have HEADPHONES_CONTEXT. He should use it for such sounds

F1CE. It reduces radio and RWR volume to the point you can barely hear it with cockpit volume knobs at max. When Radio and RWR are an acceptable volume, the Master Caution and AoA warning are about 125db (exaggeration, but it does cause a bit of physical pain for me).
It seems you issue with the 3d Party Developer. F-14 and F1CE exactly. You should contact them and only they can fix it from their side.
From our side, the volume slider "Helmet" works correctly and it can control every sound the developer want.

Unfortunately this does not isolate warning sounds. It also affects radios, ICS, RWR, MLS, VOR/ILS, TACAN, etc.
We need a slider that specifically adjusts volume of Master Caution, Betty, AoA warning, stall warning, RADALT (in other words, items that do not have volume knobs in the cockpit) without adjusting volume of other headset sounds.
Which module and sounds does not work ? In FA18 everything works, as I see
So you need a slider that will control the volume of some specific audio files? Specific for each plane? And we will have the Excel sheet with a few hundred rows for which sounds from which modules it will work? Are u sure you need it? It is quite simple right now in one slider. If smth doesn't work for this slider, than we need fix it, just for such case

Will that slider work regardless of having the option "hear like in helmet" checked?
Cheers!
Yes, it works in any cases

There is a "Helmet" slider in Audio Settings exactly for such sounds. Please try it

extract the original sound files and modify them
No, you can't. But you can create your own sound file with the name of the original one, place it in proper folder C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Sounds\Effects\....... and it will be used in your DCS version
It will be your sound mod. You can check an prepared example there: c:\DCS\DCS_trunk\LockOnExe\Doc\Sounds\SoundModExample\

Yea, you can check the list of all the sound files using in DCS
/LockOnExe/Doc/Sounds/sdef_and_wave_list.txt
In this folder you can find many useful info too

BTW @btd, is there supposed to be a "sounds" folder in my \Saved Games\DCS.openbeta folder? I've always installed my past sound mods by adding them too my \Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Mods\resource folder.
If you use open beta than yes, it's the right place C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta

sorry guys. I asked to speed up the solution of the bug. Perhaps other tasks have blocked this one in priority.

Unzip it Sounds.zip to your DCS folder: "C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\Saved Games\DCS"
There are 2 text files: Throttle_From_Afterburner and Throttle_To_Afterburner.
To change the volume of the sound, change the last line in them: "gain = 15"

Fantastic!!!! Outstanding!!!!
This adds so much realism and will add to the pilots situational awareness!!!
I'm curious....do you work for Eagle Dynamics or are you just part of the community?
Thanks again
P.S. How can we obtain this mod? Will it remain after each update?
Many thanks
And thank you for your report.
Unfortunately it can't be used as a mod. Please be patient and wait for updates. I hope it will get into one of them. And it will remain of course.

Hi, @Ranchgrom
Thanks for your reference.
Please watch my short videos with the updated sound dynamics and wind sounds for the FA18 cockpit:
I hope you can see the speed at the bottom of the screen.
How do you like it? Maybe smth to improve? It still only in my working DCS version. Thanks

BTD...brilliant mod on the engine sounds! Can actually hear the engines now during a carrier landing. Thank you much!
Still very little difference with the windshield air rush...same at 150 knots or 700 knots. Anything we can do with this?
Thanks again!!!
I recorded a video with the sound from 150 to 700 knots. There is a difference. Please check it:
Do you think it should be much more loud and noticeable? Can you share maybe some reference with it from youtube?

Hi,
yea, there were some changes to the explosions. Try this one Sounds.zip
There are updated sdef files from your sound mod

The bug is already reported. The cause of the error has been found. And this bug is already being worked on. I hope this will be fixed soon. Please be patient
