I like to use the four way hat on the throttle as my zoom in and out. I'm using a slightly modified version of Jackbauer's profile and it lets me use the pinky switch as a modifier.
It's been pretty natural for me to use pinky switch + hat foward/back to zoom in or out, respectively. It's kinda nice because you just press the hat either direction to work the zoom--no frantic scrolling necessary.
Paul, your guide is beautiful! I'm printing it out now to add it to my collection haha.
Question though, does this mean the numbers in your guide might not 100% apply to the sim?
Either way, great job :D
Thats a great link kylania, thank you.
I briefly browsed through the DCS encylopedia but unfortunately I don't have a lot of extra time to research on my gaming computer. It would be awesome if I could export the data and print it out though, it seems like a long shot but does anyone have any idea if thats possible?
Hi guys,
Does anyone know of an online resource to research the AAA and SAM systems that're featured in the simulator? It would be really nice to know the difference between an SA-8 and an SA-15. How does one know if the missiles are IR or radar guided? What about an estimated performance envelope? I've seen some people on here with a wealth of knowledge but just where did they learn it from? lol.
I don't have the manual in front of me but I don't ever remember seeing information like that.
Any help would be much appreciated!
I've done the same thing, not realizing that I'd be chastised afterwards lol.
I feel that since the BUFF somehow managed to avoid both my AIM9 missiles, he probably deserved all the cannon rounds that he got.
Sure it wiped my stats out but it's fun to let go and have a little fun sometimes.
I'm going to chime in one more time for FaceTrackNOIR.
I played the sim for five months using just a POV hat because--despite all the recommendations--I thought 150 bucks for a webcam was just one step above being kicked in the pants.
FaceTrackNOIR is open sourced software that is every bit as functional as the more commercial options. All you need is a webcam and a little time to set up your profile. If you decide to use it definitely consider a donation to the developers, these guys really deserve it.
To be fair though, head tracking is nice but I don't find it to be the necessity that some people consider it as. Everyone is different but I started learning the game in a very functional way with just the hat.
If I remember correctly, when your radios are set to easy communication mode you can use the Tab key to cycle from the JTAC dialogue menu to the main radio menu.
Can anyone confirm that?
