  1. Awesome footage! Please keep it coming :)
  2. Thanks for the mission, I had fun with this last night. I found the smoke reference markers, at altitude, really helped structure my gun runs out. Also, I hope nobodys hurt your feelings yet because your voice overs were excellent.
  3. I played through it a couple times and had a great time. I really enjoyed the scale of the battle in the mission. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
  4. Very cool. I wouldn't have thought it possible to effectively play this game with sort of joystick but with your profile it looks totally doable.
  5. Once you've ran through the training missions a few times, try out some of the actual missions. Shooting Gallery and Sitting Ducks are good places to start. Throwing yourself into the action will give you a good idea of the things you really want to work on.
  6. Take a night, go back and redo the trainings. I only have time to play maybe 3-4 hours a week but after 10 months of play I feel relatively confident with the A-10s systems but combining everything together in a mission is definitely harder. I've gone back and redone trainings after breaks (to great success) and I have a small binder of "cheat sheets" and study materials that I look over to refresh myself on procedures and functions. You'll get a lot more out of the training materials once you have a little experience under your belt. I'd try to concentrate on keeping your training relevant to whatever it is you want to do. If you want to complete more missions, imo, it won't do you much good to practice something non vital like AA Refueling over and over again if you can't drop bombs accurately or enter coordinates into the CDU. If you just want to have fun though, work on the stuff that interests you the most. There's just so much going on in this game that I find working towards a definite objective while "sweating the rest" is the least frustrating way to go about it.
  7. Maybe try raising your flaps after touch down? It reduces the lift of your wings, obviously, and increases the amount of weight on your wheels, giving your brakes some extra bite.
  8. Thanks for the feedback guys. Yeah, a TrackIR would be excellent but the current price of admission is kinda holding me up. I'm hoping they'll run a promotion or something in the near future.
  9. Hey guys, This is my first time filming an actual mission and I had a blast editing the footage together. I realize this isn't the most challenging mission but I wanted to practice flowing from one target to the next without extending way out of range to set up an approach :joystick: I'd love to hear any comments or criticisms. Thanks!
  10. It might not be the correct RL prodecure, but I've never entered the target elevation when creating a waypoint for a target. Even if the field is blank, the CDU will always plop a WP right on ground level.
  11. y2kiah, your work is just spectacular. Thank you for sharing!
  12. Just to reiterate what everyone's been saying.. I'm really excited about these upgrades! As a hobbyist, I certainly appreciate being advised of a pay upgrade and for the amount of enjoyment I get from DCS, I'm certainly willing to pay a relatively small sum of money for exciting content.
  13. Thanks for the replies guys. I double checked the default minimum drop altitude and it actually is zero, so it's no go on that one. :/ I did go back and switch between Climb, Turn and Turn-level-turn though. Both TRN and TLT got me closer to the target, it wasn't close enough to have a valid solution once my pipper was on the target. I didn't try to deselect the escape manuever entirely though, I'll definitely give that a shot tonight. Can anyone explain to me what turn-level-turn actually means and when I might use it?
  14. I can't believe how good your panels look. Keep up the good work!
  15. Hi guys, I was playing around with the Sitting Ducks mission last night, experimenting with different ways to deploy weapons and I ran into a situation that repeated itself a few times. I'm at work and don't have a track to provide, unfortunately, but I'm hoping someone can provide some insight into what I was doing wrong. I would pull my aircraft up to about 2000-2500 AGL, roll onto the target with Mk82AIRS in a low drag setup, I'd dip down to about 30 degrees to get a solid pipper and then gently pull up to bring the dot over the target (Maybe 10 degrees nose down, at that point). By the time I was ready to release, there was an X through the pipper--which according to my understanding of the manual means I was below the minimum range altitude--however i was able to consistantly drop bombs on four runs accurately and without any damage to myself. I'm not 100% of how high I was at release but iirc, the bomb fall time was 3 seconds. Now, my experience last night seems to indicate that it's possible to drop at this altitude without blowing myself up, but how do I convince the IFFCC of that? I didn't do much tinkering with the DSMS besides changing the fuse settings but is there some magic I can work to get a valid solution? I thought the minimum drop altitude defaulted to zero, is the "minimum range altitude" related to this field? I didn't play with the escape manuever setting either, would TLT or TRN allow me to "officially" release the bombs without feeling like I'm doing something wrong? Or maybe I am? haha.
  16. Alternatively, you can press TMS Left short to clear the message.
  17. Hey guys, Sorry if this is a repost but I came across a pretty cool website today that has pictures of artwork painted on the inside of the ladder hatch. I had no idea the ground crews personalised the A-10 like this! http://www.thewarthogpen.com/door2.html
  18. Nice video. I liked how you kept the pace up with lots of action.
  19. I've never had any problems with the hardware but the software that comes bundled with it is completely archaic. Fortunately, you don't have to do much editing with Saitek's software (If any, tbh) to get a good A10 profile going. Definitely check out SFJackBauer's profile here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=58484&highlight=jackbauer+profile I think almost everyone with an X52 uses it or at least tried it at some point. Nearly all of the commands are setup through DCS but you'll have to use Saitek's software to setup your slew hat and speedbrake switch--there are pretty good instructions throughout that thread on how to do it, just browse around a little.
  20. Thats a good list. If you have a really basic joystick setup, you can probably even do without the NWS, AutoPilot and master mode switch (maybe even the coolie hat if he's dying for buttons). You don't need a crazy, 500 dollar setup to play this game but the A-10 has a ton of functions on its HOTAS and it'll be difficult to manage effectively if you're bouncing back and forth to the keyboard. If money is the issue, I'd definitely consider saving up and investing in something like an X52 (about 80 bucks from amazon). I promise you that it will be worth it.
  21. I'm glad I could help, I can't take full credit though. I learned all the stuff lurking here on the forums. I highlighted the button you need to push to change the easting. Make sure you change it before you put in your coordinates though, you'll have to reenter them afterwards otherwise.
  22. That's a great tip, thanks . I was never 100% sure if I was actually using my selected profile or the default one before.
  23. You need to make an adjustment to your grid setting. If you start on an airfield to the east of the coast your default grid is most likely going to be 38T. If JTAC gives you coordinates in the 37T grid and you don't change your grid setting, you're going to make a waypoint thats hundreds of miles away from your actual target. I can't give you the most techincal explaination but essentially the UTM system divides the globe up into a grid and unfortunately for us, the region thats modeled is divided between 37T and 38T. There are a bunch of threads on this specific topic, just search around. The easiest thing to remember is if JTAC gives you coordinates that start with A-G your grid should be 37T. If they're H-Z it should be 38T.
  24. If you go to the mission menu and read the descriptions of the missions, you'll see that there are a few "training" missions that come already installed. I can't remember the names of all of them but I know there were a couple like "Shooting Gallery" and "Sitting ducks". You'll start on the ground or in the air with a basic flight plan that'll take you to your target. The ground defenses are non existant or minimal (depending on the mission) so you can get your feet wet without worrying about getting blown out of the air.
