VR Error when Trying to Use Multithreading Exe
utexgrad replied to utexgrad's topic in Virtual Reality
God bless you, sir! I am not using the open beta (yet), so I installed the OpenXR extension wrapper Mr. Bucchia so kindly provided and that fixed the issue. Much obliged for your quick reply and suggestions. -
Good morning, one and all. I am having a devil of a time with the multithreading and VR. I can get the non-MT .exe to work just fine and it immediately goes into VR with my Varjo. But when I try to launch it with my Varjo hooked up and running, it never fully launches into VR and I get loads of "XR_ERROR_RUNTIME_FAILURE" and "XR_ERROR_CALL_ORDER_INVALID" messages in the log. I don't have the kneeboard item in the registry like I've seen mentioned in other posts, so that isn't the issue. I've also disabled OpenVR in the Varjo Base with no success. Interestingly, though, when I try to use the " --force_OpenXR" flag in both the regular and MT .exe, then DCS fails to load. I have to launch the non-MT .exe file clean in order for it to use VR. If anyone has any thoughts, I would love to hear/read them as I would really love to put the MT through its paces. Robert dcs.log

Oh, cool, OK. Yeah, I am running VB 3.6. I will try reverting back to 3.5 and see if the issue still occurs. I'm not running any mods inside of DCS or outside. I tried running with and without the OpenXR Toolkit and got the same results, so it's likely the version of base I'm using. UPDATE: Well, bummer. I reverted back to VB 3.5 and the same thing is happening. I'm also getting image ghosting in VB 3.6 and 3.5 where the carrier and planes will just fade in and out. I'm not seeing any of this type of behavior in IL-2 or MSFS 2020.

Sorry, I meant the DCS update. You are saying that Varjo Base 3.6 is what is causing the cursor issues in DCS?

I am seeing this same issue with my Varjo Aero as of installing the latest update. Please fix this because I love your sim and I REALLY want to have a good experience with it using the Aero.

Well, it ended up being some sound setup wonkiness. I had to enable audio redirect in VAICOM PRO to speakers OTHER than my headphones for some unknown reason. Now I can hear the AOCS updates. Thanks for the help and thanks, Hollywood, for getting the hotfix out so amazingly fast.

I think I'm using the correct frequency. Crystal Palace should be accessible without having to select a specific one, right? I'll try the redirect disabling and see if that gets me over the hump. Thanks for the reply, good sir!

I'm sad to say that the patch didn't work for me. I'm still seeing the info only in the Voice Attack window, not actually read out to me. I cleared out the database and let it rebuild the commands and still nothing. Do you have anything else that you did after installing the hotfix? Thanks!

I can say that in my experience disabling hyperthreading gave me a 23 fps boost in VR with no tweaking of the core affinity using Lasso. This is with a i7-8700 overclocked to 5ghz, 32-gig of RAM and an overclocked 1080Ti. However, as always, YMMV.

I am also seeing this issue. I read a possible solution that worked for someone else regarding setting the coms to their default volume and checking the speech recognition voice, etc., but none of that worked for me. Does anyone know of a solution to this issue? Thanks!

hahaha shadows are totally overrated! I really just enjoy the shadowing in the cockpit more than anything else. But I suppose when it comes down to it, if I'm trying to spoof a SAM or get a MiG off of my tail, I'm really not caring too much about how immersive the shadowing looks :)

Does 'Cockpit Global Illumination' currently do anything?
utexgrad replied to Lixma 06's topic in General Bugs
Cockpit Global by itself doesn't seem to affect my frame rates, but having Deferred Shading on significantly impacts my frame rates in VR. With it off I can get anywhere between 70 and 90 FPS, depending on where I'm flying, amount of aircraft around, etc. With it on, however, I can only get 45 FPS unless I fly out over water with no land in sight. My performance meter, unsurprisingly, is also affected. I can get 0 to minor positive performance metrics with Deferred Shading off, but it dips down to the -70s with it on. Past the performance impacts, though, to me everything looks better in the cockpit with DS off. With it on, colors looked washed out on the HUD and MFCD displays, and the rest of the cockpit looks extremely dark, even in bright sunlight. Hopefully ED can apply some tweaks during the beta phase to help alleviate the issues because in other areas outside the cockpit deferred shading makes things look pretty freaking good. -
Does 'Cockpit Global Illumination' currently do anything?
utexgrad replied to Lixma 06's topic in General Bugs
It makes a difference in VR, at least for me. The cockpit is too dark without it. If I turn it off then I have to set the gamma so high that everything appears "washed out". I'm hoping that the gamma setting becomes more granular or they tweak the shaders in some way that helps alleviate the issue. To me the shading in the alpha release was dead-on in VR. -
Shadows are absolutely BRUTAL on the frames in VR. That seems to be the biggest performance hit out of any setting I've tweaked. If they are on the my performance graph is always -70%, but my FPS is locked at 45. Turning them off, my graph sits around 0%, plus or minus a few depending on where I look outside and my FPS goes to between 55 and 70. And that is with most everything maxed, MSAA at 2X and Anisotropic at 16X. It sucks because shadows really enhance the immersion factor for me. But, man, that performance tradeoff!

Been seeing the same issues on my machine. Going to give your suggestions a go tonight and see what shakes out.

That was the ticket right there!!! Thank you very much!!!

Hey Bignewy, I've attached the log file zip. The autoupdate log is back from February because that was the last time the update executable worked for me. Thanks for taking a look. It's much appreciated. DCS Logs.zip

Hey Guys, Appreciate the suggestions, but unfortunately they didn't resolve the situation. I'll keep messing with it and hopefully come up with the solution. Maybe there is a log file somewhere I can use to help me solve it.

I'm trying to update to version 1.2.16.39472.729-424 (don't have the Steam version) from 1.2.15.37241 and the update program is not working. Prior to Windows 8 I was able to just launch DCS World and it would automatically check for updates. However, that functionality stopped after I installed Windows 8 so I just ran the updater.exe manually and all was well. But that method has also stopped working as of late. I have tried running DCS_Updater.exe out of the bin folder as an administrator but it just opens a dos window, closes it and then launches DCS world. The updater.exe is in my exceptions list so that shouldn't be causing any issues. If anyone could help me resolve this issue it would be much appreciated.

Joey45, they told me you had all the answers and they were right! Don't ask me who they is; I totally made that up. -
DCS World Not Seeing My Past Purchases
utexgrad replied to utexgrad's topic in Installation Problems
Anyone know if DCS World is now supporting the BS2 upgrade purchase or am I still SOL for now? I saw the press release for the new versions, but I don't want to install it without knowing it will work with my copy. Thanks! -
While understandable, I'm a little bummed that there won't be missions out of or over England, France and Germany. I hope they do end up releasing a map toolkit so we can make our own.
