  1. I mostly agree - you're not flying a Ti-bathtub to chill at 20k. While she isn't a helo, tactics should be similar, especially with working JTAC. Essentially the CAS-variant of my SU-27 intercept tactic I laid out above. Of course, it also depends on the specific terrain - there are some regions on the map, that are a little flat. Reminds me of that one German review of black shark, saying "the terrain isn't hilly enough to allow efficient helicopter operations" and holding that against the game... The terrain is the way it is - deal with it if you must, exploit it if you can. If SEAD and CAP are working well though, going high certainly is safer. But expecting SEAD and especially CAP to be perfect is risky. Remember, that SU-27 can lock you on without your RWR ever giving you a blip, except for the AWACS loitering 100 nm away...
  2. In old lock-on I'd sometimes come in low in a Su-27 with AWACS uplink and RADAR off. That way, with the right topology, I'd get a clear first shot for some intercept missiles, by locking the target with EOS, and activating the RADAR only if my RWR sais they've locked on me and are out of range of the trusty R73. For A-10, it depends on the theater. If air superiority/SEAD isn't working like it should, going in low is safer than taking a bit shouty plane to the skies...
  3. Short note: On QWERTY Pos1 and Ende will be Home and End. Probably should stick to QWERTY descriptions in an English language document. Great resource :)
  4. I'd really like to see DCS become a bit more competitive in aspect, so a multiplayer mode that's similar to what DotA has done for WC3 could be something I'd find pretty entertaining. The basic premise would be a map, that would be relatively small and designed for balance (so using computer generated topology). There'd be a number of airfields, with a large airbase in each corner, protected by some static defences, radar and whatnot. Smaller airbases would be installed closer to the center of the map. Every player would start in the vehicle of their choice (from the lock-on fleet?) armed with only guns. Each (confirmed? to add a bit of realism ;)?) kill would alot the player (using an event system) upgraded weapons (ie, rockets/AIM9 first, then the more kills are racked up, the more weapons become available). Kills of what? Spawning ground troops that march to the center of the map where they engage in battle, in little platoons, or other players. Losing your vehicle means losing all weapons installed, and an increasing amount of "upgrade currency". Fuel beyond a certain lbs/minute should also cost extra. Neutral units could be spread around the battle field (if there is enough space...the range of AA defence is a bit scary to just put a tunguska into the middle of the place...) The game is won, when a certain number of key structures on the home airbase are destroyed (one won't be enough or someone might sneak in NOE and suicide-bomb that installation. I think in general this should be a feasible, fun, quasi-PvP multi-player map, that still sticks to a lot of sim aspects. Event-management is probably going to be quite a task, and creating the topology as well. The benefits are that teamplay, tactics and economy are going to be valued more than in standard missions, while the skill required should be just as high. Add a sped-up day/night cycle of about 15-30 minutes (depending on map size), and the players will even have to adapt to changing environmental conditions. Now I know, for the hardcore simmers amongst you, this is going to sound like heresy, but I like the idea of introducing a bit of compettition to this highly technical game :D
  5. I've been gettting stuck as well, while exploring some bases on wheels. Optically I will be on tarmac, but my wheels will sink in, and I will get stuck. Very odd.
  6. How did that open canopy not fly off for the ship-landing? Do they use groundspeed instead of airspeed? Or does the canopy actually not disattach at take-off/landing speeds?
  7. Area denial with cluster munitions is probably the best response to infantry threats.
  8. There was definitely starforce when I installed it, much to my disgust. Oh well, 9 installs left I guess!
