  1. I was doing the navigation training last night and kind of got overwhelmed with all the systems and settings. Mind you Im familiar with the use of waypoints to navigate but it was all the A-10s settings that overwhelmed me. I see this as a endeavor that will take an hour or two every day to grow with. Its not to difficult but its challenging to someone thats never been in such a realistic sim. However anyone that has experince as a flight gamer will be a step ahead cause you'll know how to set up controls and how to actually fly. The first time I got in the bird I was able to taxi, takeoff, fly around, and then Land. Everything else will take time and repetition. Frankly I didnt expect to get so much enjoyment from a 6 min startup procedure, or having to learn so many processes of an war bird. But I do. Learning and Utilizing the systems is actually more fun then flying the bird itself. And the bird does fly like a dream. For such a Lethal thing its very enjoyable to just fly it.
  2. Congratulations! I spent 18 mos there and have been following the Türk Hava Kuvvetleri closely since. Very capable AirForce that has only gotten better. Now look, F-16/50s, F-35s coming, MQ-9s, refueling tankers, precision munitions, a flying team. Very impressive. Happy Anniversary.
  3. Well I jumped the gun, "couldnt help myself", and instead of going on to my flight lesson after my start up one I jumped the gun, taxi'ed to the runway. Then took off, flew around the mountains for 15 mins, and then found my way back and landed. All without a hitch, "I guess the other "games" did me some good". It was so realistic and fun I 1/2 expected to get Article 15'd when I landed for taking off without permission. I cant wait until I can fly tactical missions. This gun platform is so very stable. As a sim its a steal at $60. I cant believe the realism and attention to detail.
  4. I'll say this, Ive never seen a game where TrackIR moves so naturally and smoothly. It actually does make you feel inside a cockpit. The lesser sims and games leave you feeling dizzy and disorientated. Often I would only assign two of the 3 axis and just assign zoom to a controller button. But this sim is different. TrackIR is terrific in it.
  5. Yes, the flight model is Lovely. The bird itself fly's like a dream. We had A-10s back in my day but I was never at a base where they were deployed. Still, I followed the evolution of the aircraft closely and always thought the airplane would dominate should it be used in anger. I was not proven wrong. But I hadnt anticipated what a sweetie it would be to fly. I dont feel like Im inside an airplane. Instead I feel like I have one wrapped around me. This is a great sim. A fitting tribute to a great war bird.
  6. Ok I think I found the answer. Im running game resolution the same as my desktop resolution. I'll back off the game a notch and unchecking fullscreen should work. For training I can live with a lower setting.
  7. Thanks for the reply. I have a question, "no doubt an easy answer", that I cant find anywhere. I have two screens and other games I can put in window mode when I also have a training aid on the other window, "video-manual"..ect. For the life of me I cant find a way to put this sim into window mode so I can access both it and a training video without shrinking the sim program to desktop. Am I missing something easy ? I tried setting to full screen and back in control/settings but that does nothing. Is there a keybind/command to put the sim into window mode ? Thanks again.
  8. OK clutch button #30. I'll try adding it to the Lua file. If not I'll map it in SST. Thank you.
  9. Thank you for the reply. Perhaps I should have rephrased. What button on the controller do you use for your TrackIR ? At least for "center" ? I see when I try and export your fine profile I get an entire series of text files. I'd like to know which ones indicate my Lua mappings so I can have a guide until I get used to them. Thanks much for the help.
  10. I understand, "I think". What I dont understand is how the SST software meshes with the A-10c controls in the game after you load the Lua file. Or is it all mouse/click/keyboard controls ? And if you arent actually mapping anything to SST ? Thank you. OK, I get it. Once the Lua file is loaded the game talks to the controllers. Im so used to controlling with all PRO files. Is there a best way to setup trackIR with this profile ? I gather you cant intermix between the two programs. Thank you.
  11. Thanks for the replys. I have a TrackIR. But I dont see how that connects with keybindings. I kind of get the impression that you dont even need keybindings to fly the airplane. That the program actually allows you to control it with a mouse in the cockpit. I have never done that before. Honestly i thought the sim would be controlled by keybindings mapped to a joystick. I'll do a search for training videos. Maybe that will at least allow me to start to understand the language of the sim. I cant follow instruction if I dont understand the language. "idle detent" "CMS" "NVIS" ? words like that i dont even know what they mean.:dunno: I gather "fingerlifts" means to start or stop the engine. Time to roll up my sleeves and start studying. OK I get that you have to start/stop/control each engine separate "bad choice of throttles". I suppose I can map one engine to the throttle and one to the slider right ? Thank you.
  12. I dont know but in SST I pretty much get a blank profile too.
  13. Im familiar with SST but for some strange reason this PRO file, in SST, only shows bindings in the mini-stick axis's.
  14. I have one, an X-52 with rudders. Its still kinda confusing as to whats important enough to map. For instance the Bird has two engines so which keys do I map for them ? Or do I map both ? Or how to read the keybindings ? Pretty pathetic for an ex-USAF man who has simmed for a few years but Ive never simmed modern and the only thing I did with airplanes , back in the '70s, was guard them, watch them, love them. :joystick: Thanks again for all the responses. <S>
  15. Thanks for the reply so quick. I bought the program and was able to fly the plane in practice, "it handles beautifully". Can I ask one more question ? Im a little overwhelmed with all the keybindings. For instance there seems to be numerous keys to start/stop your engines. Which keys actually do this the easiest way ? And what key controls are most important to have when starting the game ? Thanks again for any answers. This sounds like a great community. <S>
  16. I am considering buying this game. As it is , and for the first time in years, I dont have a dedicated flight game. My main interest is history, most of all WW 2 flight history, but since that genre is almost dead in flight simming I have been looking for alternatives. This game looks awfully cool. While I dont feel like re-enlisting it seems there are avenues in A-10c for the more casual simmer also. Not that I mind learning and growing, I just dont feel like sitting on a runway for 6 mins going thru a checklist. Is my observation correct ? Can you also play the sim more casually ? Mind you Im not putting down anyone elses interests. I admit its kinda cool there is so much realism. Also, and I guess this is the most important question, what is it you find most fun about the game ? Am I right that you are basically flying CAS against AI targets and never actually fighting against others in multi player ? Of course I realize the A-10 is a dedicated CAS air frame. Thanks in advance for any answers.
  17. Thanks for the reply. Actually it might not matter cause I hadnt realized there was no trial period of the game and Im not sure Im going to sink another $60 into a game I might not like. Im going to think about it.
  18. Actually I think I found my own answer. Oddly the brakes are mapped in the Pro Flight Rudders as z and y axis. I forgot I have a X52 stick and throttle and a Pro Flight rudder. All should be good now, I wonder do you have to invert your toe brakes ? Thanks.
  19. I did research this but couldnt find an answer, tho dont doubt it has been answered. Im trying to set up my controllers. I have a plane Jane X52 with throttle and rudders. It seems no matter what I set them to I cant get my throttle or rudders to work. They are showing up fine in "controllers" and there are no issues. My joystick axis's X & Y are both fine but i cant get my other controllers to work. Thoughts would be appreciated.
