  1. In real life, rule of thumb is that every 'bar' on a windsock represents 5 knots of wind speed. The image below tells you there is about 5~6 knots of wind speed.
  2. Great piece, lot's of beautiful photos too! http://arstechnica.com/the-multiverse/2016/01/the-slowly-fading-art-of-flying-and-maintaining-cold-war-fighter-jets/
  3. I just moved GTA V to a regular HDD to make room. Now the entire SSD is dedicated to DCS! :pilotfly:
  4. Same problem! Added 8Gb of RAM and MIG-21bis keeps asking for registration! EDIT: Ran the registration fix and re-registering went OK now. Let's start DCS now. High hopes...
  5. Yes you missed a thing. You're absolutely right that it's easy to place static objects. But... I want to place the static aircraft precisely on a parking spot instead of just somewhere on the airport grounds.
  6. That's what I've been doing now indeed. One tactic I'm also using is to add a 'live' aircraft on a parking space, then place the static one on the exact same place, select the live one from the unit list and delete it. I was hoping there was a simpler way.
  7. But how do you park them in the exact places? With 'live' aircraft, you can appoint them to parking spaces. With stationary planes, it seems you can't.
  8. Great mission! My first attempt failed miserably after one AAA (between waypoint 5 and 6 I think) got lucky and hit my left engine after which my speed was reduced to about 200kts. :censored: Had a hard time getting over the mountain and eventually stalled and crashed on the mountainside.:joystick: Second attempt was better. Still got shot and lost my left wingtip and with that several sensors. I had to do a landing without any speed indication. Still managed to safely land the aircraft though. Good mission to see what fails when something gets shot up.
  9. Try to create a mission with wind speeds of 50m / s. You will see that you will not receive clearance for start-up.:) Side effect of 50m/s wind speeds is that your plane will probably be blown of it's parking ramp. Was funny trying to start-up a plane that would not stand still. :joystick:
  10. Not only these Russian/Georgian airfields have this sort of runways. Even some older European and American airfields have this instead of asphalt. One airfield I know of is the international airport of Geneva. (look very close on Google Maps and you might see it) But I must say that the tiles used on this airport are much larger than the ones on your pictures.
