  1. He has a Phenom II Quad core now. Do you think he could overclock that chip easily into the 3's and get a new midrange GPU? I know the Black Edition chips are supposed to be the easiest to OC, but won't all Phenom II's OC fairly easily?
  2. The ATI 5830 is a budget card that got great reviews in one of my computer mags last month. They're only $140 or so. Have you tried overclocking that Phenom II any? AMD is good about letting users OC their chips. Here's a good site to see if your chip is OC'able: overclockers.com I bought a Phenom II 555 for $90 and unlocked the other two cores very easily to make it a quad core. It's OC'ed to a stable 3.8ghz on just air cooling which has been very good for gaming. I'm awaiting 4gigs of RAM in the mail to see if it helps with any of my games. I figure it won't make too much difference, but it was only $30.74 including the tax and shipping. The same RAM 14 months ago cost me $120! Quality RAM is so cheap right now that I figure I better go ahead and upgrade to 8gigs.
  3. I know this isn't the answer you want, but I got mine from the UK. The shipping only took about a week. I'm very glad I got it!
  4. Ok, makes sense. It just seems like the past wars we've been in since 1991, we've had air dominance immediately where our attack planes had free reign over the airspace to reek chaos since all the AA was gone. But I wasn't flying in those wars, so there you go.
  5. I was reading this thread because I'm about up to speed on my weapons practice and want to start running some of the missions. It seems to me that the radar and anti-air threats would have been taken out by stealth fighters and cruise missiles by the time they sent in the attack aircraft to pummel the armor. I know that doesn't mean a MANPAD won't pop up here and there, but would they really have slowpoke attack planes flying through SAM country? I dunno. Just asking since you guys are up on this.
  6. Well this answers my question why some of my LGB's don't hit anywhere near the target. If I manually hit the lase key (NWS) every time, will it ensure that the laser is on even if the default has reset the bomb back to auto-lase: off? I'd rather use the laser guided bombs because I can carry 3 GBU-12's per pod instead of just the one GBU-38.
  7. I ended up buying the sim from the UK and having it shipped to me in the US. The DVD version was 1.1.0.7. Just this week I updated it with patch 1.1.0.8. which was a gig or a bit more I think. It cost me about $73 to order from the UK, but it was well worth the extra cash and the wait for it to get here.
  8. Tried it four times now from cold start and it worked every time. Thanks!
  9. Ok, I see the EAC light. I just can't get the EAC to come on while on the ground during startup. I wait for the INS Nav Ready to come up before pressing NAV...
  10. I have the same trouble. I can't think of a single time I've ever gotten into the air and looked down to see the EAC switch actually on. I always have to turn it on after I get into the air and leveled out. Since you can't see the switch when parked, there should be a light or something to tell you whether or not it's on.
  11. I didn't know about those. Thanks much!
  12. I'm trying to work through the first Combat Employment tutorial. I'm parked on the ramp and it's telling me how to use the DSMS on the left MFCD. When it gets to the part where you're supposed to highlight both BDU-33's, it doesn't continue. I tried searching through the forums but couldn't find any workaround for this tutorial getting stuck. Anyone had this happen and know how to get it to continue? I have patch 1.1.0.8. I'll go practice some landings until someone can help me out. Thanks!
  13. Great explanations, diagrams, and pics. Thanks! So many acronyms and systems to learn... (I like that yellow house right under the approach lights) :D
  14. Hello, I'm a noob so please bear with my noobness. Is there a difference between VASI and PAPI or is it just a matter of terminology? I've always heard the lights referred to as VASI but the PAPI lights on here look like the same system. Thanks much. I just made my 4th landing and besides stopping too long in the grass once, the other three were nice. I'm having a great time. :)
  15. Ok, after a mod moved this topic to this section I was able to find a solution below. The TDC needs to be at the very bottom of the HUD and almost out of sight before it works. Happy flying.
  16. Hello all, I'm new and I'm stuck on the navigation training. I don't have a HOTAS stick so I've been using my MS Sidewinder + keyboard + mouse clicks on instruments. I get to a part of the NAV training that tells me to use the HOTAS slew control down (period key for me) to designate a new SPI point by slewing the TDC down towards the bottom of the HUD. That part works for me using the "." Then it says to designate the new SPI in front of the aircraft by using the HOTAS TMS UP command or L. CTRL + up arrow. When I try to use L.CTRL + up arrow, nothing happens. This makes the training mission stick in that spot. Anyone know what I may be doing wrong or what I should press instead of L.CTRL + Up Arrow to designate the new SPI? Thanks much. Enjoying myself so far!
