  1. For what it is worth, the following is one-person's opinion (not mine, although I concur) from the Shiftall Discord regarding the MeganeX8K Vr headset. The MGX has overcome some initial criticisms that generated negative press at its release and is worth considering, if one's budget allows. This is not to imply the MGX is perfect -- no current headset is. "Let me tell you something, this is BEYOND my expectations! Honestly, I’ve got her dialled in and not one single thing about this headset disappoints me! Hand on heart, I swear to god it’s absolutely incredible, the lightweight feel, the perfect clarity, the binocular overlap that’s just crazy like wtf, the colours are magical and pop like crazy. I can't believe how easy it is to just get straight into a game. I’ve even got a little remote for the power extension that the hub’s plugged into, so I hit a button, VR loads, start steamVR and bosh and I’m straight in. Compared to the Q3 it’s a joke how easy this is. I’m not messing with the oculus debug tool anymore, not changing FOV tangent multipliers, pixel-per-display overrides, or disabling ASW every time the Meta app boots or loses connection. That was a headache and a half. And the strap… honestly, I don’t get the fuss. I’ve never worn anything so comfortable, it just works perfectly with the headset and the movement feels so natural. This is just my opinion after dialing in from a sim racing perspective, and I’ve only used the Q2 and Q3 before, so I don’t have loads to compare it to. But my experience has been flawless. I’m ecstatic I took the risk because the precision you get from this is ridiculous, the adrenaline is unreal, and I swear I drive like a god now. For me it’s a solid 10/10, no flaws at all for what I use it for."

  2. Shiftall has updated MGX firmware to provide 72 and 75 FPS options in addition to the original 90. This update, along with new distortion profiles and native SteamVR driver, have the vast majority of MGX owners loving their device. Unfortunately price remains a barrier for many.
  3. I had been avoiding DLSS due to the graphic artifacts it caused, especially pronounced in the MFD displays, but the new modifications to autoexec.cfg completely remove the artifacts. Distant aircraft spotting with the DLSS performance setting seems to me about the same as without DLSS. I am now a big fan of DLSS.
  4. Shiftall and talented community members continue to improve MeganeX8k. New firmware, native SteamVR driver and distortion fixes have improved visuals markedly lifting this device to its full potential. Average FOV is still its most significant limitation. If you have cash to burn it is worth considering. Much discussion on Shiftall Discord: https://discord.gg/SM9QRKhm
  5. I do understand and accept the risks, but I detest Windoze' constant nagging at the higher UAC settings.
  6. I do not run DCS or Open Kneeboard as Administrator; however I have UAC set to lowest in Win 11. When starting Open Kneeboard I get a warning about running it as admin but, ignoring the warning, the program runs normally.
  7. MeganeX8K headset for about 3 weeks. 6 feet to lighthouses.. I could not get these to function with BsBv1. Have not tried with MGX.
  8. I have 2 lighthouses mounted just above eye level and about 45 degrees to my right and left. Very rare for me to lose tracking in DCS seated position. May be a greater problem in more active games, I guess.
  9. Meganex8K has a lot to recommend it. No current VR headset is perfect, unfortunately, but the MGX form factor, comfort, personalization adjustments, uOLED colors and clarity are among the best available, IMO. The MGX experience should only improve as Shiftall upgrades their software.
  10. SteamVR driver was developed by a talented community member using a software device Shiftall was unaware of. To their credit Shiftall has recognized and praised this person's work and will be incorporating it into an official upgrade.
  11. I have and I am quite impressed with improved video: brightness, colors, sharpness, distortion, e2e clarity, etc. This is a native SteamVR driver now and although motion smoothing is available, I find it degrades apparent performance. 4090 and 7800x3d with res set to 5Kx5K DCS is very smooth.
  12. MeganeX8K update: New software is substantially improving the visuals. VRFlightSimGuy Experience
  13. This procedure is impossible in multiplayer.
  14. When an imported DTC file is loaded onto the Hornet prior to entering the cockpit, the MUMI page displays DEFAULT as the program file name, even though testing shows the imported file has actually loaded. DEFAULT continues to display after pressing MFD button 16 for ALR67. One would expect the imported file name to be displayed. Is this a bug or correct as is? DTC Bug Track.trk
  15. I have done some dogfighting and had no issues with headset movement. Some users have fitted 3rd party headstraps, like Globular Cluster, to good effect. I estimate that center 50% of fov is ultra-sharp and Hornet instruments/MFD's readable about to about 75%. Circular FOV (about 97D in vertical) helps in dogfighting. Every individual adjustment affects the other adjustment options, so takes awhile to find optimum comfort and image. I set image res to 4084x4084 in SteamVR, use no MSAA or other supersampling and perceive no aliasing in DCS Hornet cockpit. Best compromise for me between quality and performance. 4090 GPU.
