Alright so the time is near to make a big purchase. Although I'd like to purchase both I can only choose one or the other today. TrackIR 5 w/ Pro Clip or a Saitek X65F stick. I'm debating one which one would be the better investment for me right now. The current stick I have is a Saitek Cyborg X (/insert bleh face -> -_-x ) I can fly with it, been able to practice take-offs and landings but it is terribly uncentered and not as precise as I'd like it to be. I hate having to hold down the base of the stick with my left hand to keep it from lifting when pushing forward. But anyways, what would you suggest?

Update, I went to this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=75917 And downloaded the HeadTrack Binaries and replaced the files in my bin\headtracker folder. Still, no TrackIR option in my controls screen. But now when I go into fly any mission, my view is like if I held numpad 6 to turn my head all the way around facing the rear of the 'pit at my seat. The view is locked and now I cannot get out of it.

Will try that right now. Does it matter what the Game Protocol is set on? When I load the DCS_A10.ini it defaults to Freetrack. Should I change this to Fake TrackIR? Edit: In my search I typed in, "HeadTracker.dll" and it said no results are found. But I physically see it in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\bin\headtracker Edit x 2: Still no option for TrackIR controls, even in Axis Commands.

Alright so after installing FaceTrackNOIR, I updated it to V150, and then downloaded the "EAGLE DYNAMICS API INTERFACE DLL (64-bit)" file. Now the interface dll instructions tells me to extract the files to a folder called "headtracker" in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS A-10C\bin. I noticed I did not have this "headtracker" folder so I made a new folder by the name of "headtracker" and then placed the files into there (DCS_A10C.ini and HeadTracker.dll). The instructions then tell me to start up FaceTrackNOIR, load the DCS_A10C.ini file, press start, and wait for the camera screen to pick up my face and wait for the outline to appear letting me know my camera is tracking my face. I executed these instructions and all is well. Now I go start up DCS A-10C. I go to the OPTIONS menu and at the top where it shows me all my input devices all I can see are "Keyboard, Cyborg X Stick, Mouse". I don't see an area where I can start to bind the whole face tracking axis stuff. Can anyone help?

Proud to say that I've finally achieved my first landing today. Nerve wrecking but I managed to keep it cool and touch her down safely. Just need to practice more on descending a bit smoother (:

Bumping this up. I'm logging on right now (:

Hopefully you'll see this! The server crashed or something and I was hoping to get your information so we can fly again. I appreciate the help and tips and would like to have another session with you. Please PM me!

Just wondering if there is anyone with an available server / in a server that wants to perhaps fly around and practice take-off's and landings. Post up in here and let me know server info. I also have a Mumble server as well if you'd like to voice comm.

If anyone can help me out with some ATC problems... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=78985

So I threw my Cyborg X out the window today. I cannot even do proper training missions as the auto pilot disengages due to the stick not centered. DCS reads it as me doing control input and disables autopilot and down I go falling like a rock as I am not THAT familiar with all the controls yet! I've decided that by next week I'll be purchasing an X65F and I will stop playing until I get a new stick. Truly going back to what the OP said about not having a good stick hindering the enjoyment!
-
I am in the same boat as you as it is hindering my enjoyment as well. I'm looking at the X52 PRO, Saitek X65F, and of course the Warthog. I think the general consensus is that if you're going to be all about the A-10C of course the TM Warthog is the way to go. But if you are on the side of going to try out the new sims coming out (ie: DCS' new plane?! Hmm F-15E?! Super Hornet?!), you'd be fine with the X52 PRO or the Saitek X65 as they are more "generalized" than aircraft specific. I'm tempted to try out the X65F, but I've been hearing that the non-moving stick may take a little while to get used to. Maybe Stingray can chime in on this. How accurate can you get while using the X65? In my head it seems like it would be hard to do any precision flying without the feeling of a traditional stick.
-
You and I both! I've been eyeing this sim for months but was too afraid to even dip my toes into the water. Posting up made me more confident knowing that people here are willing to help! As for the X52 PRO, I think I'll be going with this. I know someone selling it second hand and for the price I can get the X52 pro and TrackIR (:
-
Any other opinions? I would love the Warthog but it's a little pricey for me right now. Any suggestions on a stick one class lower? I was looking into the X52 PRO.
-
Gahhh I wish the HOTAS Warthog didn't cost so much >_<

What do you people think about the Saitek X-65?

Thank you all again for your help and advice. I bought it this weekend and have been doing some training missions when I have time. Boy, it is very complicated but interesting and in depth enough to keep you going. I've been running into a really REALLY annoying problem though when trying to pay attention in the training. My Saitek Cyborg X doesn't like staying centered at all (hands on and hands off). This is allowing my auto-pilot to automatically disengage and sending me rolling and diving towards the ground and ultimately crashing. Still really knew and of course, having no knowledge on how to correctly react >=| I think I'll really be needing to upgrade this stick.

Ah I see. I guess direct from ED is the way to go. I like Steam because of the whole social network on their and I can chat along with my friends.
-
I don't mean to thread jack but are there any advantages and disadvantages from purchasing straight from ED or Steam? Besides the price difference of course.

Hello all. I was wondering if anyone knows if any company that makes something like a flight stick and throttle stand. For reference, I don't have the skills or knowledge to build something on my own or design a pit. I've been yearning to have the ability to mount my flight stick between my legs and have my throttle positioned next to my desk chair on the left for that "feel". I think it would be good for those who cannot afford to create a pit like I!
-
I am definitely planning for the TrackIR. Is there any significance between 4 and 5?
-
Ah, you're in the same boat as me. Well I'm most likely going to buy a used X52 PRO from someone here locally. I want to get the Warthog but in honesty since I am new to the sim genre, I want to see how I do and how much I like flying. Then from there I'd like to invest in a $300+ stick that will last me a while.

Well hey, one of these days let's get together and practice with each other. I do agree with you on the terminology but with the power of Google I just go ahead and search up the term to try to understand :P What stick are you looking into? I'm having a hard decision on what would be a good investment.
