Could that really have caused an instant CTD? I manage to play ArmA 2 with this laptop, and it's sort of ridiculous if a game requires 64-bit.

Any insight? The crash dump clearly references a particular file, and it's not like the forum is swamped right now.
-
Could you elaborate on the 'crash on some mission start' fix?
I for one have only gotten a single mission to actually start, and I'm not alone.

When it comes to artillery rounds, the 'dust prongs' tend to dissipate into drifting smoke.

Simple get a $9 joystick until you know you will enjoy this hobby, save up for an X-52 and then save up for the next Thrustmaster.
$9... do tell. :music_whistling:

Is the FC2 Su-25 really that more difficult than the LOMAC Su-25?
I shudder at the though of using the keyboard, although it was sometimes necessary for maneuvers like Immelmanns.
Edit: Thanks in advance, Nate.

When I tried to fly a mission with the default resolution of 1000x700 on my widescreen laptop (with a much higher native res), I crashed.
And afterwards, when I started changing the keyboard controls, I crashed. I only got to fly for a few seconds in-between these two episodes.
Crashes attached in one .txt file.

I don't currently own a joystick. I know you will all be up in arms about how I'm not playing the game the way it was meant to be played, and that you can't have a flight sim with a mouse, etc.
But the fact is, I played the original Lock On for many enjoyable hours with a mouse, and was able to carry out ground attack with a high degree of precision. In DCS World, however, the Axis section of the control menu only has entries for camera control. Is there any way, through patch or mod, to control the pitch and yaw of the plane with the mouse axes, and use the keyboard for the camera?
I won't be able to get my hands on a joystick for some time now, and besides I want to be able to play on my laptop when I'm traveling. Has this series not supported mouse controls since LOMAC or something?

The explosions look great, but they're too big for the shaped charge Vikhr. S-5 and S-8 rockets are pretty tiny too, as you can see on youtube.
-
Oh, it's working now.
I guess it was just probability playing tricks on me, where the server was only overloaded the 2nd time I clicked on each file, and never the 1st. OP edited for the more pressing question.
-
Sobek, I am skeptical that you are correct.
I have been able to download all files without any problems.
But WHENEVER I try to download a file the second time (I had a corruption, and was looking for a faster mirror on the big ones), I get the user and password prompt. There's seems to be a one D/L per person DRM rule on the website.
-
I tried to install, but dozens of textures turned out to be corrupted. The error message didn't tell me which file was bad, but here are some examples:
world/bazar/terrain/vfstextures/landtexturesspring.zip
world/bazar/terrain/vfstextures/volumetex_winter/smallshit_grass.dds
world/bazar/terrain/vpp/nalchik.rn
(and some sort of arial font as well)
Does anyone know which download file contains these entries? I would prefer not to D/L all those gigs again, as the host is miserably slow.

I want to buy Flaming Cliffs, but I am concerned about performance on my PC. I am not satisfied just looking at the system reqs, because my computer is more than powerful enough for LOMAC, but my FPS sinks into the toilet whenever I look at a city or zoom out the cockpit view too far.
So I don't want to spend money on what could be a slideshow. I keep finding links for the Flaming Cliffs 1 demo, but it no longer seems to be hosted at the main site.
If you don't know where to find a demo of either Flaming Cliffs game, you could answer these questions:
How much more stressful on the hardware are the more recent games?
Are the terrain meshes higher res in the sequels? By a lot?

LOMAC:
Is there a reason why the Strela-1 and Strela-10 cannot be targeted by the Kh-25MP, leaving the Su-25 with few tools to deal with them? They have big honking radars on the top, while the itty bitty one on the Shilka seems to draw every anti-rad missile from miles around, even more than Tors and Tunguskas. Such a waste.
Also, how can I mount Kh-58s on my Su-25 like in that SEAD mission?
-
Mavericks cannot be 'zoomed', ie no zoom-view. You can however toggle between two preset FOV - The manual explains it very well.
Training explains that you use the - and = keys to toggle the view, but these keys have no effect in my game.
-
And are there many mods LOMAC or did that only start with Flaming Cliffs? I have been on some addon sites that like to bring up not results when search filters are applied.
-
I just installed LOMAC from a CD. I have had some trouble sorting out the various expansions, but downloaded 1.1 Flaming Cliffs a few hours ago. The install worked fine, but then Starforce bitch-slapped me when I tried to start the game. Something about incompatible drivers preventing the installation of the necessary libraries.
I got fed up, burned everything down, and now here I am with a default LOMAC install.
So clear this up for me:
You have to pay for Flaming Cliffs 1.1 after you install it?
How do you pay for the download of Flaming Cliffs 2.0?
Can I install FC 2.0 right on top of vanilla LOMAC?
If I want to stick with LOMAC for a while, are there any free patches that I should get?
Other questions:
Why don't I hear any voices in the training missions, like I do on youtube videos?
CTD's out the afterburner

Minimal system requirements: Windows XP, Vista, 7; CPU P4 2 GHz; RAM 2 Gb; Video nVidia/ATI 256 Mb RAM, DirectX9; 6 Gb of free space on HDD; Sound card;
Nothing in the futuristic system reqs about 64 bit, and 2 GB RAM is not much at all.
I'm still not clear on whether or how a lack of RAM is causing an 'access violation' with one particular file named edTerrain.dll
