  1. I appreciate your prompt response
  2. While we are on the subject of hydraulics... why is it that with the aircraft cold, no power, you can still move all the flight controls. I understand they are mechanically connected but wouldn't the pilot not physically be able to move the swashplate because of the strength required? In what point in the startup procedure are the hydraulics actually turned on. Are the hydraulic pumps on the main gearbox? so as long as the rotors are turning you have hydraulic power? Or does the APU have a hydraulic pump attached to it for ground ops and controls check? Is that what the turbo gear is for?
  3. rotor design Hm... I'm a little confused then because in the english manual on part 1-4 it specifies the rotor heads are unhinged. "The main rotor heads are unhinged, and the blades are attached to them through the torsion bars installed in self- lubricating bearings." This is odd because I definitely see that they have at least have a free moving flapping hinge (you can see this if you put some turbulence in game and watch the blades flap up and down and hit their stops). By torsion bars do they mean the feathering (pitch-change) motion of the blades are through elastic deformation of the torsion bars? I know for example, the bell 412 has a rotor design in which the flapping motion is due to elastic deformation (flex beam) rather than a free moving articulated bearing. But the feathering (pitch-change) motion and lead/lag is done through a elastomeric bearing (bearing with rubber and metal plates) Here is a pic
  4. I remember reading that ground resonance was usually caused from the lead/lag motion of the rotor blades during spool up and spool down. If you notice on helicopters with fully articulated rotors there are dampers on each rotor blade to filter out the lead/lag frequency that is critical to resonance. I know the KA-50 definitely has a flapping hinge but not sure if it's fully articulated in lead lag. It doesn't appear to be. It might be something like an elastomeric bearing of some sort that also acts as a damper. I don't see how the coax configuration of the KA-50 makes it invulnerable to ground resonance though. Might not be likely to get into it due to proper damping though. Rotor systems that don't have lead lag hinges, like semi rigid and flex beam designs usually don't encounter ground resonance but can get into vibratory states. (I think) :music_whistling:
  5. Some suggestions.... We should definately focus our choices on the application of the aircraft in the campaigns as well as being able to work well with the other DCS aircraft in multiplayer. As for helicopters, how cool would it be to have some CSAR (combat search and rescue) You gotta work with your crew (was it the jump master?) letting you know how to move in hover. little to the left, little forward, hold your hover, hold your hover, while your getting shot at and then you have the a-10s and other aircraft doing support. And then your winch gets stuck and you gotta use your backup and you got the jungle penetrator or basket used to rescue the downed pilot? While you also have a gunner keeping things clear in the trees. Then after recovering the downed pilot you lose an engine etc. How cool would it be to be flying a blackhawk. You could do CSAR, medivac, or you can arm it with some guns and rockets. Many interesting campaigns with something like UH-60 or a UH-1. I seriously think having CSAR ops would make DCS even more unique and appealing. As for fixed wing...Naval ops would be great. What about the old navy hotrod, the A-4 Skyhawk? I think we definately need a carrier ops aircraft. Or how about the coolest turboprop, the OV-10 Bronco.
  6. wouldn't it be funny if the pilot would say something like.... "Man it is getting hot in here" And you start having trouble focusing etc. Then you need the AC. Plus turning the AC on will put a slight strain on your electrical system. Can't forget those human factor components for the sim eh? One sim that does a great job with that is an addon called Delta Glider IV for the space sim called orbiter. They actually have life signs for the crew and environmental system modeling, so you can actually get into a hypoxia or hyperoxia etc. Pretty neat stuff.
  7. First of all just wanted to give biggest thanks and kudos to the DCS team for an amazing product released. I am an heli aero engineer and designer and I definately appreciate the amount of fidelity in both the aerodynamics, system and the visual modeling. I am also very pleased the DCS will allow controlled 3rd party addons. This could be just me missing an option or feature but is there a way to have the aircraft cold (everything off) for the campaign? It seems that because they give you 30 minutes to do startup and mission setup. I just find it funny if you can't because they teach you all about starting procedures in the training and when it comes to the campaign the aircraft is all ready for takeoff.
  8. If you want a vertical takeoff machine that can also fly fast why not the harrier? I think having the harrier made by DCS would be incredible. Is there not aircraft system information out there for DCS to work with? It would be a perfect aircraft since it is considered a multirole aircraft and unque and challenging to fly. It is also is unique in that it has it's own problems such as the redigestion of it's own exhaust. Theres a ton of possibilities I think with the harrier. You could land in unprepared areas and many other things. What do you say eh? Not sure if it would be the original sea harrier or the AV-8B. :D
  9. Vortex Ring State (VRS)? How accurate the flight dynamics going to be? Are we going to have Vortex Ring State modeled? Is the rotor going to cone under different load factors? Also are we going to have blowback on the rotor at high forward speeds? I'm assuming translational lift as well as autorotation will be modeled. Are we going to be able to overtorque the engine, damage engine/transmission etc? I really hope this goes where I think its going.
  10. Seems even if I go into options, set my desired difficulty and realism click on the global button and save, then go to a campaign, go to options, the options are all different and I cannot change most of them. They are locked. What do I do to change the options in campaign mode. I really dont like the labels on and the mini hud. :( btw: I have 1.12b and no mods installed.
