For some reason, my pitch ladder, gun sights, CCIP pippers, TVV, boresight and all other "central" symbology from the hud have all gone AWOL. The LUA fixes in the stickied thread didn't fix the problem, and the DCS updater won't even let me roll back my version. :crash: In the meantime, is it possible to duct tape an aimpoint to my dash, to give me some sort of reference?

[RESOLVED]TEMPORARY SOLUTION FOR MISSING LINES IN HUD
MustanGrande replied to Zeus67's topic in AV-8B N/A
Same here. Missing just about everything that actually matters on the hud, despite downloading and installing the fix. :no_sad: Gonna try the version roll back. -
The A-10C may have some complex systems, but it's a remarkably stable and forgiving plane to fly. Landing is particularly easy, as the various systems involved pretty much remove all of the guesswork. The TVV shows you exactly where your plane is going. The AOA indicator lets you know whether or not you're on-speed. Between the two, VFR becomes a breeze. As for the rest, just walk into them gradually. Tackle the various advanced topics one by one as you go.

In addition to the above resources, Bunyap Sims' "On the Range" playlist is full of useful tutorials on various topics. Also, the Basic, Advanced, and Tactical qualification videos by Recon Stewart can be very informative. The missions he's running are the Maple Flag campaigns of the same name.

Made my first attempt at AAR today...

Yeah. The biggest enemy seems to be Pilot-Induced Oscillations. Need to get that "buck fever" under control. :joystick: -

When they say "Hold formation with the plane, not the boom," they're not joking. I was using the CV1, so I had the advantage of depth perception to aid me. Still, if you look at the video, the center of the view is where I was focusing. Once I had contact, I spent most of my time staring straight up, trying to reference the edge of the refueling boom mount on the KC's belly against the edge of my canopy rim. And I didn't DARE risk glancing at my fuel gauge. It'll be over when it's over. XD -

Thanks! I started to lose it and oscillate a bit towards the end, but I'm still proud of it. :) And yeah, this was actually my second all-in-one refuel. At the end of the first, the boom operator knocked me out of the sky when he disconnected. Had to do it all over again. Couldn't put THAT up on youtube, after all! It's a good thing Nellis was over 100 miles away when I finished, too. Gave my hands time to stop shaking before the landing. lol AAR is challenging, but I kinda like that about it. -

It really is like they said above; practice, practice, practice. And don't try to actually plug the boom in. It "snaps" in when it's close. lol -
It usually flashes a Msg notification as well, doesn't it?

Anyone know if it's possible to map that zoom when using VR?

So I've run into a new problem. Or rather, I've identified a problem that I had in the previous video. The boom operator on the tanker seems to want me dead. I get the plane into position, I ease it up, viewing the replay in external view shows the boom going right into the fueling port, but I don't get a connection. Instead, the boom seems to vanish somewhere within the plane's flight model, at which point the operator starts smacking me around like Ray Rice in an elevator. Any tips on not.. angering the tanker? Do I need to bring it chocolate or something? lol EDIT: Nvm, I figured it out. I was actually trying to make contact, but that's not how the sim handles it. Seems there's a detection box around the refueling port. When the nozzle is held there long enough, everything just "snaps." It's not good enough to come in slow. You need to come in SLOOOOOW. And once I figured that out, everything clicked! -

Hehe. Yeah, I hadn't even noticed that they were armed until I was setting things up for landing. But believe me, when he yanked that boom away for the 3rd or 4th time, I considered giving him a burst. -
Announcement - new A-10C DLC training campaign
MustanGrande replied to baltic_dragon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Hi there, baltic_dragon! I'm in much the same boat as the poster above me. I'm very much the learn-by-doing sort, and a campaign like yours is sure to be an immense asset to the community. For such a forgiving aircraft, the A-10 is remarkably complex. Looking forward to the release, and I'll be watching for it closely! -
Or at least, my first in a very, VERY long while. Also, my first attempt while using the CV1. 26 attempts later, I finally had a full tank of fuel. I've really got to tip my hat to those of you who make this sort of thing look easy! :joystick: Until then, I guess it's just practice, practice, practice!

BATUMI IFR / ILS Landing A-10C
MustanGrande replied to JorgeIII's topic in User Created Missions General
Loved the mission! Had some difficulty at first, but on the 3rd or 4th try, it finally clicked. 3rd try saw a hard landing. 4th try saw a nice landing with a "pucker-factor 9" final approach. Adding this to my practice regimen until I have it down. Great idea to knock out the HUD, as I think most pilots (myself included) need more practice with the steam gauges. Thanks for making this! -
Correctness/incorrectness aside, it would at least make the hud readable in level flight. And, because it fixes that visibility issue, it figures that the download doesn't work.

Thanks again. I'm going to try that first Instant Action mission again and apply what you guys have said. Much appreciated! EDIT: Thanks for all the advice. My first mission was a complete success! (Making use of the wingman helped as well)

Thank you very much. And am I correct in thinking that engaging Alt Hold while in a bank will cause the plane to maintain that bank? (this is mentioned several times in tutorials, when people put their planes into holding orbits)
-
thank you very much for all the input, and especially for the excellent training guide! My GBUs were set to auto-lase for 10 seconds, so I don't think latching on was the problem. (Bomb view showed plenty of "bang-bang" guidance) JDAMs worked fine, so I can only assume that I was masking the targets. On another note, does anyone know what will make the plane "reject" autopilot activation, where the button does nothing?

Hello, all! I just picked up A10C, and I'm LOVING it so far! I've never seen such a beautiful and in-depth sim. That said, I have a few questions, primarily regarding laser-guided bombs. First, I can bomb unguarded targets just fine, but against those protected by AAA or SAMs, my bombs tend to fly wide. I'm thinking that maneuvering to exit the hot zone is throwing off my laser spot. (maybe losing LOS from the TGP?) Is this likely the case? Secondly, if the TGP is locked onto a moving target, such as the lead tank in a column, will the GBU-12 effectively track the moving laser spot and destroy the target? I'd appreciate any input more experienced players could provide. Thanks!
