On an off-topic note, this same training session saw my instructor take an Aim-9 to the face with no ill effects. lol

Sounds about right.

I was pulling lead on a target, pulled the trigger, and my jet exploded. lol

I might need to add some extra curve to my pitch axis, I think. Most of the time, the Viggen is pretty docile, but it seems exceptionally touchy on takeoff.

Can someone explain how the RB04 works?
MustanGrande replied to imacken's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
I'm not sure the target circle is really that crucial on the RB-04 beyond range indications in the HUD. In most cases, provided the WP is "close enough," I'll just line the contacts up along the radar's centerline and fire. To my knowledge, there's no targeting data being delivered to the missile itself. -
I'm not sure, but the symbology may draw upon QFE like almost any other system on the Viggen. That could create problems when attacking targets at an unexpected elevation. Targets of opportunity in general aren't really the Viggen's strong suit, though.

"Nordic Fire" - Giving some video love to the Viggen
MustanGrande replied to unipus's topic in DCS: AJS37 Viggen
Awesome! I can never believe how smoothly some people manipulate the ingame camera! -
That's the Viggen, for you! Get in, slam your one, specifically-designated target and get out! lol

The most jarring thing was that she transitioned to male after the first few tutorials. xD That said, I've had a similar problem on takeoffs. Namely, when I give slight back pressure to rotate, the Viggen LEAPS into the air and starts yelling at me for exceeding AOA. Correcting downward is almost always an over-correction that leads to touching back down again. I'll have to give the "hold the nose down and then relax pressure" technique a try.

Note that (to my knowledge) the missiles don't talk to each other. The RB-04 basically homes in on whatever it detects ahead of it, and you have very little control over which radar contact it chooses. Granted, there are presets to try and encourage them to spread out, but it's always possible that they'll pick the same ship. If they miss completely, then something has probably gone wrong. Most likely, the ship has traveled outside of the missile's search cone. Really, the best way to make sure your missiles don't home in on the same ship is to launch, peel away, and then re-attack after the first target has been sunk. -
Can confirm. This happened to me as well.

Assuming the replay doesn't just fire you into the ocean or taxi you into the grass, or roll over into a lazy death spiral for no reason whatsoever. :megalol: As someone who uses replays routinely for videos, they're so unreliable it hurts.

Well, there are a couple of problems with it. Firstly, the HMS doesn't actually coincide with your line of sight. It sits quite high in your view. So, you end up looking upward in your field of view, trying to get the HMS on-target. Secondly, you have to hold a button down to keep your systems slaving towards the HMS, which can be a bit cumbersome. It's really set up as a cuing system, rather than a sight. And thirdly, it has no magnification. The KA-50 isn't (generally) employed as a strafing, guns-blazing sort of aircraft. Most of its engagements involve finding a ridge/building/other cover to hide behind, while it lobs Vihkr missiles and cannon fire into the target area from several miles away. In that sort of usage, the HMS isn't really optimal, as even a minute change in your head position can result in dozens if not hundreds of feet of distance in the target area. Not that that matters. VR really doesn't have the resolution to pick out ground targets at that sort of distance anyway! But it's perfect for saying "I want to attack the east end of the runway." You look there, hit your slew button, and the Auto-Turn-To-Target function pivots the Shark around to point the nose at your mark. The Shkval centers in on your point, and your intended targets are generally within its field of view, allowing you to engage them with minimal searching. Essentially, its usability as an actual real-time sight is... questionable. Not saying it can't be done, but it's rather cumbersome. As a tool for rapidly acquiring targets with your sensors, and drastically cutting down search time, though? It's invaluable.

haha! I know the feeling!

A simple strike mission, testing out some radio message triggers. Mostly shaking things down before taking the whole squad out. And a couple issues spawning in.

Replays that actually replay the mission as flown?
MustanGrande posted a topic in DCS Core Wish List
I know it's a long shot, and it's a standing issue that goes back years, but a replay system that doesn't randomly fly aircraft into the ground, or show misses that were hits, or crashes that were landings would be lovely for those that fly in VR, but would like to record our flights. Too many cool moments have been ruined, because the highlight reel decided the aircraft in question taxied into the grass on mission start and never took off. Or, if that's not possible, how about a full-screen mirror in the style of Elite: Dangerous instead of the narrow, one-eye mirror that's currently provided, so that we can properly record/stream live without weird resolution work-arounds that may or (in my case) may not work? -
I think it's there as an alternative to the A-10C system. In the A-10, the entire pitch ladder drifts alongside the TVV, and that can lead to difficulties during crosswind landings. (It's no fun when your ladder and TVV both disappear right off the side of the hud!) The harrier appears to keep the ladder locked in the center, with a TVV centered upon it for pitch reference. The ghost tvv is there to show you where your aircraft is actually heading. At least, that's what I make of it. I may very well be wrong.

Decided to add a bit of flavor to last night's training mission by introducing a 25-knot headwind, with the pitch, roll and turbulence that goes along with it!
-
Very cool! It's a shame not seeing the Mk-77 on the list, though. I'm told it'll be included on the F/A-18, though. You know. In case you wanted to pinch some off of them. lol

Harrier Formation practice with the 231 in 2.5

2.5 is simply unbearably gorgeous. Especially when I take off my Rift and see the replays in full detail!
