Warthog or not Warthog ? @ end of 2011
Ok, first of all, Hello everyone.
This is my first post as a registered user \o/ but ED forums was my wandering place for the last year, so i'm not totally new(bie).
I've got so many questions which can or can't be answered that i decided to start here. Sorry if this comes too evasive. Mods feel free to move it in another place, like the russian forum if you're in a bad mood.
Readers, i'm not here to flame any game (apart BF3). I'm just looking for my next time stealing game, after DCS BS (and no, my GF still don't want to flight, after those 2 crashs in Anapa). If you love this game enough, you can jump to the last bold line and tell me why you're loving it.
Here below is written some info on my past, what i like in games, and what scares me in dcs, maybe you feeling the same and can explain to me what you've done.
The Mighty Warthog C :
I followed the beta (mainly on youtube), the comments, whish list, patchs... But today i still DON'T have this game.
Why ? i don't really know, maybe some of you can tell me.
Christmas can do good, even if i'm nearly 30.
Yes, i love simulations, even better if they're eyecandy as long as i don't waste my money for a *** linear arcade game.
What i've done so far (extensively, in order):
- A10 Cuba (hmmmm... you don't know this? you should be ashamed)
- FA/18 III + Korea (with my keyboard, yes sir !) (reminds me dcs mission style)
- Falcon 4.0 (with my first joystick : saitek cyborg 3D)
- F4:AF (think i've played more on the 2D campaign manager than actually flown the F16 (why i can't fly those damn Apache for my CAS !!!)
- pause - (no, hate m$ FS, and X-plane is just ... ok flying Challenger space shuttle was fun. The chopper sea king was interesting too)
- SCS Dangerous Waters. Loved the FFG Oliver H Perry. This could have been one of the best war simulator to me, but its engine was too limited.
- ArmaII (+3exp) (how can you play MW or Battlefield 3 after this game? which reminds me revamped versions of Time Crisis)
- Discovered DCS BS mid 2010: OMG it's a helo, and it has a GPS ? I want it ! definitively ! i felt in love when i first heard the sound after hitting Start Left engine button.
For this game and this game only i bought the X-52 pro and Track IR 5. 300€ for a 40€ sim (i still don't see the word "game" in dcs series)... nice? not for my wallet, but BS brought a new world in the Simulation factory, with the possibility to play Desert Strike (amiga version ofc) game mode.
But even if i know there's some update (graphics and so on) for DCS A-10C, i still hesitate to buy this game (valid for dcs series) :
- No dynamic campaigns ? ok this has a hudge thread already, and i actually understand the pro and cons, but the campaign management in dcs is weird too, so... but be ok, i don't wanna see a DC like F4 in dcs, unless we have rights to take any vehicle we want.
- Strange AI movement (amphibious vehicles scared of water, Sniping T72 sabot for aircraft, MIGs coming to gun engagement when winchester, slow speed when chased by chopper (167 km/h max for a Hind is outrageous)
- No water/underwater real challenge (there are some boats yes, but if Russia plans on a invasion of Georgia, a single USA carrier group could repel reds to Moscow... especially with those hudge anti-missile artillery dcs have put on all boats, it's very hard to play(and create mission) with naval groups)
- No nuclear device. (this has been discussed too yeah, but adds realism for insta loose a campaign ^^ especially if that thing comes from Boris Yeltsine's beloved Tchetchenia)
More seriously, it's a high fidelity slow aircraft with no chance of surviving if owner has no air superiority (i mean 100%), and we know it's not the case with Russia. So what's new compared to black shark? apart we can go faster than 400km/h and can't hide in the forest ?
I'm afraid you can't do much with a solo A10.
Actually i'm creating (almost done) a campaign for bs dedicated to pilots with nice flying skills. Because it's a helo, you can have fun doing other stuff than pressing the red button with a skull on it.
I humbly think that Diversity is really missing in DCS.
When i get bored with rotor intersection, i do another role. Like being a sniper or a tank commander in Arma2 (no, too much arcade style for flying objects), or maybe i would try finding the missing Koursk with the FFG in SCSDW (Shit happens when you forget to open the outer door when launching a rocket torpedo haha). Or maybe trying harder to understand the F16 BMS, for finally playing in 2D or flying the F22 to kill those nasty SU-33)
Sure i would buy a Sim like The Battle Simulator by ED. (http://www.thebattlesim.com/) And i would pay a nice price if this had some ground controlled units (soldier, ships, trucks...)
I'm not counting on the future Take-On games to do this, nor Fighter Ops aswell.
So what about A10? really? Is it all about aligning the beast from a tank line? and know exactly what the MFD-12 push button is for ?
Prior to posting, i tried to look for threads concerning about time played, boredomness, multiplayer...
