Shortly after my DIY deice They came up with a plan. Couldn't believe they thought it was no big deal to fly an airplane with ice/frost on the wings. I was an airline captain for 20 years. My we are picky. Perhaps you should have been there. I was taught to call out the starter cutout. Sometimes they don't shut down by themselves. Start signal was twirling one finger. Not necessary to motor unless you have a strong tailwind and the engine is windmillimg backwards. It was heavy frost and was not in front of intakes. Fighter pilots call it the arming area. Maybe that's why you left the flying to the pilots. They weren't all crew chiefs. Are you a female? :):):thumbup:

Single seat pilots don't use checklists. Here was my flow. 1. go clockwise left to right and make sure everything was off. 2. start apu and begin aligning INS. 3. start engines 4. go clockwise again and turn everything on. 5. go clockwise and test everything 6. wait til checkin time and check in your flight. FM/VHF/UHF. 7. Arm seat, INS to Nav (No GPS) and taxi to arming. O2 reg stays on Normal-not 100 unless you have the mask on and are hungover. Leroy

One morning I stepped to fly at BAFB on a cold morning and found ice on the wings. The ground troops looked at me like I was nuts when I asked what the de-ice plan was. My wingman and I taxiied to the arming area then sat in each others exhaust to deice the wings. Worked great! Leroy

"Start light out" was always a call to the Crew Chief. The ATS will crap itself if it continues to run. Leroy

We were tasked against sams and the Republican guards in the Gulf War. I lost two friends to Sams in one mission. Steve Phyliss was the flight lead. His wingman was hit by a sam and Steve got hit trying to help him. Think it was SA-13s. Bad system. SEAD is not the first mission but you have to deal with them if they pop up. Leroy

223 was one of the jets I flew in the 74TFS at England AFB. That is the 74th patch on his right shoulder. Good use for the Pave Penny pylon. Note the refueling door is open. Leroy

We called it trolling. Not conducive to long life. Leroy

Searching thru the mav seeker is like looking thru a soda straw. We would boresight the mav to the gun cross and aim with that. Pressing the china hat ground stabilized the seeker. Then looked inside to the video display and fine tuned. When you released the china hat the mav would lock if the tgt was in the FOV. Always wanted to launch in NFOV. We only had IR and EO. No laser. We could see laser spots with the Pave Penny. Leroy A10A Jock

The secret of survival is standoff. Always use your longest range weapon first to stop and dissorient the column. I used mav, gun in that order. Tanks are no threat to you but the AAA and Sams supporting them are. Leroy

It is called computers and software. It senses yaw and corrects it. Same as the airliners I flew. This ain't your Father's Buick. It also corrects for trim changes when the gun is fired. Leroy

Nomex flight gloves. Leather palms. The stick looks nice. The real one is a very dense plastic material. It will never feel like the real thing unless you put it on a 2 ft pole. I am searching for a gaming desktop. This gets expensive. Leroy
