  1. Actually it's 9 years for SC and it's groundbreaking on so many levels. Still an Alpha and alphas are normally far less playable. It's very trendy to hate SC and regurgitate endless negative rhetoric. Your statements about Vulkan in regards to that other flight sim and DOOM are also inaccurate. Yes there are games such as DOOM that support Vulkan. Doom doesn't use a full implementation of Vulkan though so there isn't really a performance boost. That other flight sim has definite performance boost from the Vulkan support even though you cite some examples of people not seeing any benefit. I would ask what's wrong with those particular PCs. The developer goes into great detail on why Vulkan brings significant performance boost over openGL.
  2. The other sim developer goes into great detail explaining why adding vulkan is much more efficient than his old opengl API. It's an interesting vid on YouTube.
  3. You know that big space game the name of which I dare not speak? One of the things I love about that development is the roadmap info and progress indicators. I realise ED don't have anywhere near the budget or staff to do that in the same way. There are preview vids many months in advance for supercarrier but it would be nice to see a progress report and gain an insight into the Vulkan work. I also note the progress screenshots from the various module makers. :)
  4. With supercarrier coming soon bringing a new level of realism, this adds an even greater burden on performance. DCS World needs Vulkan more than ever. ED should really be adding VRworks support as well to bring significant performance boost by utilising Nvidia VR hardware acceleration. VRworks brings a number of VR performance boosting features built into Nvidia GPUs since the 900 series. Eve Valkyrie and Raw Data are two examples of games that received VRworks support after launch. After VRworks was added, the FPS in VR increased significantly (and for Raw Data the graphics could be maxed-out). VR users currently struggle to get their FPS up and have to rely on ASW on Oculus or motion-smoothing on SteamVR. DCS World is pretty-much trying to reach beyond its grasp currently. Higher-fidelity aircraft modules, enhanced DCS terrain and lighting updates running on dual-core and an outdated inefficent DX11 API.
  5. VR making the game too physical (realistic) suggests some people shouldn't be using VR. I have been saying this for a long time. I've been using VR since 2006. As it heads towards mainstream (still some years away) it unfortunately falls into the hands of people who really aren't well-suited for it. Not being able to look straight behind you isn't a VR limitation. It's a human limitation. I personally don't care what ED add to VR as an option for those who can't move their bodies due to low-muscle energy but to see some people calling it a "limitation of VR" is just nonsense.
  6. Ancient dual core code is a bottleneck but still DCS requires a lot of GPU performance. I noticed a significant boost in performance going from 1070 to 1080Ti. DX11 is a big bottleneck. I'm talking about VR users rather than flat-earth DCS users. VR places a higher load on GPU.
  7. Thanks. Should be some gains but I guess not quite as much as transitioning from the awful openGL.
  8. Absolutely hate and detest the forced messages on screen. Destroys realism. Unbelievable that ED in 2020 still don't allow these unrealistic messages to be switched off.
  9. Shortcomings of VR? What are you talking about? So you think being able to look directly behind is a realistic necessity? VR gives you realistic human limits. TrackIR doesn't provide realistic headtracking. Real mil pilots have to shift their entire upper body to look close to behind.
  10. DLSS is restricted to 2000 series GPU. It will never be implemented on dcs. There's hardware VR acceleration built in to every Nvidia GPU going back to to 900 series. VRworks as featured on a number of vr games brings a big FPS boost. It will never be supported on DCS world. That just leaves us with Vulkan as the only hope of boosting performance. In other words we're not getting anywhere near full performance in VR even on old 900 series GPUs
  11. Lack of unrealistic head movement isn't something wrong with VR. VR has a long way to go but more importantly DCS World running on an ancient and slow API with no hardware VR accleration features supported (Nvidia) is the biggest issue.
  12. I agree with all your points! After this length of time another post won't make a difference and I agree that it's at least a small improvement the lights no longer cut through into the cockpit. I've had a rough sketchy idea to create a website focusing on problems that really need to be addressed with DCS? Not in any way as a hostile attack (as a DCS Fan that would be counter-productive). I'm thinking more as a way to focus issues and present them in a very clear way with video examples. DCS fans would contribute and share their issues. I realise that this forum has sub-forums for that but forums are quite plain and kind of dull. A series of very focused videos might better serve to highlight issues and make them prominent to the world.
  13. Oh really? If you're worried about "real things" then what are you hanging around and posting on DCS world forum for then? I work in a high risk environment and don't have the option to work from home. Life doesn't stop because of the virus and apparently it doesn't for you either because you're saying one thing and doing another. Think stuff through dude. Think if what you're saying makes sense! You will notice the forum is still active. It hasn't been suspended because of what's going on and DCS World is still in active development during this time. Really... use some logic.
  14. Disagree with what? Seems like you think I said "worst lighting ever". Just because you've seen worse lighting doesn't make DCS external lights good. Your brain is fuzzy.
  15. That front wheel light under daylight conditions... https://youtu.be/6ZL1u-WqZC4?t=15 In SUNLIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've also seen vids of the Harrier's collision light flashes emitting huge photon energy bursts in bright daylight? If you can't get basic photon illumination right... what else are you getting wrong?
  16. I don't understand. Reinstalling DCS doesn't stop you from using early access modules.
  17. My DCS is smooth again! Wiped the beta and installed the regular 2.5. All smooth on my 1080ti + Vive.
  18. I wiped my DCS Beta install (it had the crappy shader mod installed at some point), downloaded and installed DCS 2.5 (non-beta) and it's running smoothly again on my 1080ti + Vive.
  19. DCS is now unplayable on my 1080Ti. Just tried the F18 on Nevada and prior to the last two patches it used to run smoothly on my HTC Vive. Now the frame rate has dropped and the flight is stuttery. It's unplayable. Why don't you take advantage of the VR acceleration hardware that's part of every Nvidia GPU? VRworks support would bring a significant boost to VR performance as it did with Eve Valkyrie, Raw Data and the Croteam VR games. People over at Facebook DCS VR group are also reporting performance issues in VR... https://www.facebook.com/groups/1893278417412009/?ref=group_header UPDATE: FIXED!!!! I uninstalled my DCS Beta and installed the DCS 2.5 non-beta. Running smoothly on my 1080Ti + HTC Vive. I had the shader mod installed on the beta at some point so perhaps that impacted it?
  20. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1893278417412009/?ref=group_header Problems for VR users also reported in this facebook DCS VR group. DCS is now unplayable for me since the last two patches (i.e. the one that brought lighting fixes). I have a 1080Ti and it was super smooth on Nevada on my HTC Vive (not pro). Now the performance is so bad I'm going to have to suspend DCS and go to IL-2 until it gets fixed.
  21. Just loaded up DCS world for the first time since before the last two patches... the one that changed the lighting. Performance is now absolutely terrible on my 1080Ti. Prior to the last 2 patches it was smooth!! Playing in VR on HTC Vive (not pro).
  22. I will study the existing cam controls to get a better insight. With the subtitles I can't see any way to get rid of them since they still appear when unticked on the options.
  23. I can't get regular subtitles to disappear. It has been stated a number of times by people that disabling the subtitles has no effect.
