Thanks Bignewy. I appreciate the time and the help. Interesting about the graphics card. I will reinstall the driver as you suggest. I noticed some other odd JTAC behavior. When it gives you your target it calls out other threats in the area. It seems to be calling out nonexistent threats. The counts it gives for some can't be accurate. Oh well, that's a problem for another day! Thanks again, Paul

I did more testing and can say that the problem is indeed related to JTAC. However, I don't know specifically what it is about the way I have JTAC set up that is causing the problem. I first removed the ninth target from the triggered action list that was on late generation. I was able to get through all 8 initial targets and was landing at a base to rearm when DCS crashed. I then removed all triggered actions from the JTAC setup and deleted the trigger that would have initiated those actions. I was able to complete the mission without DCS crashing. There is a bug related to JTAC and/or triggered actions. I hope the log files help point to the underlying problem. Thanks, Paul

Recreated Mission Still Causes DCS to Crash I was fairly certain that I had a corrupt mission file, so I recreated this mission from scratch. It still causes DCS to crash as noted above. In this case it got slightly further along, but still crashed at roughly the same place in the mission. Either I am doing something illegal in how I'm setting up my mission, or I have uncovered a bug. I have attached new log files along with the recreated mission file. It's pure speculation, but I suspect the problem might be in how I am using the JTAC aircraft. I noted in an earlier post that attempting to assign more than four priority targets breaks JTAC, but that did not cause DCS to crash. JTAC simply did not show up as a resource in-game. My workaround was to create a list of triggered actions in the JTAC aircraft setup (Engage Group) and then use a trigger to begin working through the list. The crashes always occur near the end of this list of 9 targets, i.e. after I have destroyed 7 or 8. One of the 9 targets is on late activation. I put this one at the top of the list in the trigger since I want JTAC to assign it ahead of others should it activate before all of the 8 other targets are destroyed. I tested this and it worked great, but I never tried going through all 8 targets first. I'll look forward to any feedback on what is found in the log files should anyone have a look. Thanks, Paul Logs02.zip

No Tacview recorded on latest stable ver.
pdmarsh replied to mj3437's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
I had a similar problem after updating Tacview itself. For some reason it resets the save-file folder to "Computer." No acmi files get saved. I had to set it back to the proper folder. All is working now. Hope this helps. Paul -
DCS 1.5.5.58891 has been crashing at roughly the same point, although not the exact point, in this particular mission. This does lead me to think my problem might be a corrupted mission file, or someting along those lines, but perhaps it is DCS related. I haven't flown other missions in 1.5 recently, so it's tough to say. I am not seeing other error messages, e.g. GPU related. A characteristic of the crash is that DCS goes to a black screen with the logo appearing, but I can hear the mission continuing in the background. After a few moments, the "DCS has stopped working" message appears. The log and crash files, along with the mission itself, are in the attached zip file. Any review of the log files and comments or suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you, Paul Logs.zip

@Brixmis--Thanks for the comments. I appreciate it. I took a look at the mission and all aircraft coalitions are set up correctly. I wonder if AI can be guilty of friendly fire. I suppose it's possible that a missile, once launched, can lock on to an unintended target. That's an odd one for sure. Paul
-
Thanks for the follow-up. I'm glad it worked better for you. Regarding the interceptor behavior, I have no idea why that's happening. Very odd. I'll have a look at the mission. Paul
-
@Brixmis -- I am very sorry to hear that you had trouble with the mission. We did run into a similar problem when piloted F-15s, i.e. non-AI, were in the mission, so I made a version with client F-15s taking off from a different air base. It seems that human pilot activity has a negative effect on AI behavior from which it never recovers. I'm not quite sure why I did not post this at the time, but I have attached it to this post. I'll try to make it more official and replace the other version. If you do give this another try, please let me know how it goes. Thank you, Paul Cargo_Escort_Public_Release_03.miz

DCSFlightpanels (DCSFP) thread. Saitek Pro Flight Panels & DCS
pdmarsh replied to a topic in DCS Modding
That's not a stupid question. As a keyboard emulator it will work with any program. Hope this helps. Paul -
Using "Reset Overlay" did the trick. Thank you for responding. Paul

When I put an active mission on pause, error messages begin to pop up stating that the connection to various input devices has been lost, e.g. joystick, throttle, etc. Sometimes these devices will come back on-line and work after un-pausing the mission, but other times they don't and the only recourse is to quit the game and restart DCS World. I have not seen this behavior before release 1.5.4.57288. Log file attached. Thank you, Paul Note: The method I had used to pause the game was "ESC." I am testing with using the "PAUSE" key on the keyboard. dcs.zip

Toggle Radio Overly stopped working for me after the last update (1.2.8.0). I do not see the overlay anywhere on my screen and I don't see the second program icon in the taskbar. It appears that it is not launching at all. The AWACS overlay works fine. Log files attached. Thanks, Paul clientlog.txt serverlog.txt

Operation Erase & Replace V3 Operation Erase & Replace has proved to be popular among the group of pilots I fly with. As our numbers grew, and as more DCS modules became available, it was time to give E&R a facelift. In addition to adding tasks for Gazelle M, Gazelle L, F-5E-3 and F-15 aircraft, a second phase of operations has been included as well. AI aircraft have been added to handle mission-critical tasks if no human pilot has taken the role, or if assistance is simply desired. Indeed, single players can actually fly this mission to success. Although the following slots are available, the mission would be overwhelmed if all were taken. This was done to offer variety for certain tasks. I will follow this list with an ideal aircraft makeup. Available Aircraft (Cold Start) 2X A-10C (CAS) 2X Ka-50 (CAS) 2X F-5E-3 (CAP/CAS) 2X F-15 (CAP) 2X Su-25T (SEAD) 2X UH-1H (Transport) 2X Mi-8MTV2 (Transport) 2X SA342M (Strike) 1X SA342L (Escort) Ideal Player Aircraft Makeup 2X CAS made up of A-10Cs, Ka-50s or one of each 1X or 2X F-5E-3 2X transports made up of UH-1H Hueys, Mi-8MTV2s or one of each 2X Su-25T 1X or 2X SA342M 1X SA342L 2X F-15 F-15 and SA342L flights are truly optional and their absence will be taken into account with regard to threats, tasks and scoring. If other flights are missing, AI aircraft will be made available to accomplish mission-critical tasks. Single players can fly these aircraft and still complete the mission with AI assistance: A-10C Ka-50 F-5E-3 Su-25T UH-1H Mi-8MTV2 SA342M F-15 (tough but doable) Narrated mission brief video (length 7:30) is included with download and can be viewed on YouTube (written brief below). Mission Brief It is expected that this mission will play out in two phases. The goal of Phase I is to eliminate enemy forces that have occupied the town of Verhnebakanskiy, stop enemy reinforcements from arriving and occupy the town with friendly forces. Individual mission tasks will be described in a moment. If we are successful in Phase I, we anticipate a counterstrike from the enemy as an attempt to immediately retake Verhnebakanskiy. All flights will be instructed to RTB, rearm, refuel and get airborne over Verhnebakanskiy as quickly as possible in case the counterstrike occurs. The following are individual mission assignments for Phase I. All flights except F-15 CAP and Gazelle CAS will originate from Anapa-Vityazevo. F-15 CAP flights will originate from Sochi-Adler. Gazelle CAS flights will originate from FARP London. Su-25T SEAD flights must take out SAM and triple-A sites that surround Verhnebakanskiy. Radar has been detected, so SEAD aircraft have been fitted with the Phantasmagoria pod and associated missiles. A-10C and/or Ka-50 CAS flights should avoid overflying Verhnebakanskiy until notified that, at a minimum, SAM sites have been eliminated. Once all enemy air defense sites have been eliminated, including triple-A, you will be notified of that as well. Your mission is to hunt down and destroy enemy reinforcement convoys travelling to Verhnebakanskiy from the northeast and southeast. F-5E-3 CAP flights are to hold position at waypoint 1, southwest of Verhnebakanskiy, and await tasking orders. F-15 CAP flights are to fly northwest up the coastline to Verhnebakanskiy and monitor Overlord for enemy aircraft activity. UH-1H and/or Mi-8 transports will fly on a heading of 120° from Anapa-Vityazevo to FARP London and pick up troops using the F10 CTLD menu. The FARP landing zone is marked with blue smoke. Hold at FARP London until notified that all enemy air defenses have been cleared around Verhnebakanskiy. You will then continue on a heading of 120° until southwest of Verhnebakanskiy and turn north into the town. Troop drop-off zones are marked with red and green smoke. Return to FARP London for more troops if needed to eliminate enemy troops within those zones. Gazelle M flights are tasked with destroying a mobile command center located at an enemy FARP. You will fly nap-of-the-earth to avoid enemy air defenses around Verhnebakanskiy and will hold at waypoint 4 until notified that all air defenses have been neutralized. At that time you can press your attack. After the mobile command center has been taken out, attack targets of opportunity at the FARP. One Gazelle L flight is available for escort of Gazelle M flights. The escort will fly ahead of Gazelle Ms and seek and destroy any ground forces along the flight route. Once at the FARP target zone, the Gazelle L can attack targets of opportunity as well. Throughout Phase I, AI SEAD, CAS and transports are on call via the F10 menu if needed. Generally, these would not be used unless no human pilot has taken the role. AI CAS and transports will hold at points away from Verhnebakanskiy until all enemy air defenses have been cleared. However, they can be released sooner using the F10 menu if desired. Phase I success will be defined by achieving these goals: 1. Destruction of enemy mobile command post (not required if no human Gazelle flights in mission). 2. Safe arrival of friendly convoys (2) at Verhnebakanskiy. 3. Reduction of enemy infantry occupying Verhnebakanskiy by 80% or more. If you are notified of Phase I success, return to base, rearm, refuel and get airborne over Verhnebakanskiy as quickly as possible in anticipation of an enemy counterstrike. You will have 30 minutes after Phase I success before Phase II commences. Phase II can be initiated sooner and manually using the F10 menu. All flights will be given on-screen individualized target assignments at the commencement of Phase II. Transport helicopters should anticipate cargo duty, so stay light when you rearm. Make note of type of any given crate selected for transport. If damaged, you can request another using the F10 CTLD menu. F-5Es are likely to be given a bombing assignment, so rearm accordingly. Phase II and overall mission success will be defined by achieving the following goals: 1. Enemy artillery sites destroyed. 2. Friendly convoys that had arrived in Verhnebakanskiy remain alive above 50% until end of mission. 3. Enemy fuel depot degraded by 75% or more. 4. Relocated enemy command post destroyed. 5. SAM crates (4) transported from marshalling area to designated drop zone and SAM site erected (not required if no human transport flights in mission). AI flights are available via the F10 menu to accomplish the strike missions if human pilots have not taken those roles. In the attached image you will see that I have four targets for my JTAC to report. Each has been given a priority from 1 to 4. Just below is the general task assignment of "FAC -a." If I add a fifth priority target above "FAC -a", the JTAC unit will not appear in the communications menu in-game, usually choice F4. The unit itself is visible in-game, but not available on the comms menu. I could not find any documentation or forum posts that indicate a limit to the number of priority targets that can be assigned. Just a note: When you initially set your JTAC to AFAC duty, the "FAC -a" action will appear at the top of the Advanced Actions list and will stay there unless moved lower. If left at the top, priority targets set below are ignored in terms of priority. The JTAC just calls the highest threat unit in its area. Perhaps this is normal behavior, but observed nevertheless. I hope this helps. Thanks, Paul

Yes, it was nice while it lasted. Now, the map is on my left monitor, but the mouse has to be used in the center monitor to manipulate it. Thanks, Paul -
Copilot Not Appearing
pdmarsh replied to pdmarsh's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
False alarm. I didn't realize that cycling through "Show Pilot Body" in-cockpit alternately shows both pilots, just the copilot or no pilot bodies. The default view must have changed in the Gazelle for some reason. -
Even without selecting the option to show the pilot, a copilot would appear in the Gazelle and Huey. In the case of the Gazelle, the copilot no longer appears unless the option to show the pilot is selected. I have not tried the Huey as yet.
