  1. This is true if you fly an aircraft most of the time or very often. But we flight simmers have to choose from quite a few different models and we only fly in our spare time. Even if I got the switches in about one or two hours; if I wont fly the bird for a week or two (and this will happen), then it's hard to find the correct ones in time. If they are labeld in english it's not that difficult. BTW: Most (but not all and thats my point) of the switches are on my HOTAS and external (english labeled) keyboard. So I do not use the switches in the cockpit most of the time. And those switches I use are of minor importance and not very often used anyway. But even then I have to visually check their position sometimes. And I dont like to get puzzled by some strange language. tooltips are not very helpful, because I would have to use the mouse and thats way to slow. But we get an english cockpit allready and until then I can live with cyrillic letters.
  2. Ah! Thank you. This will explain a few things. And yes, Autopilot was of after the hits - all channels. It seems that russian engineers think quite different. I would lit a red signal when something is defect, not when a non defective backup system is working.
  3. Is this picture correct? I had a flight against some BTR-80 today, got shot with 14,5mm AP round at me. They scored a hit and I lost my main hydraulics (as shown in the mission review). But the red signal lamp for the aux hydraulics got lit up.
  4. Well, no guided missiles: to bad. Any chance for the S-5 rockets?
  5. I have some questions too: 1. Is there an a keyboard button to lower/raise the vertical angle of the PKV aiming sight? 2. Is there a keyboard button to change the pod selection on the navigator wepaons control panel? 3. What exactly does "PUV arming" do? And please: give the wheel break an axis control.
  6. Nice to hear.
  7. Well, I dont think so. English labels will make it much easier to build a map in your mind. I would expect that 90% or way more people that are flying in DCS can at least read english. And even the rest can read latin letters. Cyrillic letters are only known to a few of us.
  8. The same holds for the Ka-50 but there is an english cockpit language included. This nullifies your argument completely. ;) So belsimtek: An english cockpit language, PLEASE! :) PS: If DCS or someone else will ever produce a Me-109, I would expect an english cockpit too. German would be no problem for me at all :D, but I doubt that most DCS user an english version of the cockpit would be much easier to understand. And even thinking of a japanese Zero will give me headaches. ;)
  9. Well... perhaps I'm missing something or it's just because it's in beta state, but alls switches, buttons, etc are labeled with cyrillic letters/russian language, even though I set set the cockpit language to english in the game options. Is there currently a way to use an english cockpit language for Mi-8? I hope it is planned to include english cockpit label in the final release.
  10. It's true that a human eye cant see single frames above roundabout 25fps. But that doesn't mean that 24fps or even 30fps looks the same as 100fps. And no, 25fps isn't smooth. Its playable, but smooth? Well, never ever. An average human eye WILL see the difference. Maybe 60fps would even technically look like 100fps because of monitor refresh rates and the difference bteween 60pfs and 100fps is hard to impossible to notice even on a CRT; but I would allways into any bet to differ between 25fps and 60fps.
  11. Well, what's about an AWACS aircraft? With complete modelled radar functionality. :)
  12. I don't know if its allready on the list of this thread, but whats about larger military transport aircrafts like the C-130 or An-12 for example? PS; ah! somebody else had the same idea allready: *signed*
  13. I also wonder what this means. Thought it were the number of bombs until now. cool. :) couldn't try it yet. PS: confirmed. It's working now.
  14. Just a suggestion: Make backups of the entiere DCS-Installation, all config files, all third party configurations (helios profiles, HOTS config, ...). Do this after every update and just before you change anything. Using an incremental backup will speed up this process (it's just a matter of minutes). DCS is a complicated game and not as easy to reconfigure and install as other. So it's worth the (minor) effort. A version control system for some lua-skripts would be a good idea too.
  15. ?? An AI unit? I'm quite sure I have flown the unit. Strange... I will check this today when I'm at home. PS: Really strange. I'm remembering the file name and it's the right one. There should only be a single player controlled A-10C, flying directly to a waypoint point over an orange smoke marker. The smoke is activated by a trigger. The second trigger should detect the bomb in the zone (not working). So I'm puzzled about the Tornados and the AI unit you are talking of.
  16. "but", because you mentioned 3840x1020 and I'm using 3840x1080 (I have corrected the wrong config; that was my fault) Both screen should be 1920x1080; so 3840x1080 ingame resolution. 1920x1080 for cockpit on the left screen; 1920x1080 for the helios/instrument screen to the right. Perhaps it's the nvidia driver; I have checked the nvidia settings too, but didn't get a clue what to change so far. I will test the newest driver until weekend. We will see... but there's only a little hope for improvement by installing a fresh driver. PS: Switching to an old driver may be a problem. I had some issued with "kerbal space program" with an older driver. And other issues with Civ5 with some newer ones.
  17. In german: "Die Lesbarkeit auf dem Bildschrim erleichtern." ;) I have never used this feature so far. And it is at 100%. It's really a bit late today and I had a long day. Let's delay this a few days. I have checked the most obvios mistakes but din't found any at the moment. At least there is an improvement. I have tried softth a few months ago and there was not even some kind of display - just a crash. Now at least I can see the "SoftTH" Screen on the right monitor, when DCS starts. Unfortunately it's black and the left monitor works with no AA, but perhaps we will resolve this too - but not today.
  18. Argh... now I'm notice this. I have set keepComposition=1 some day. Now its set to 0. Dunno why... So another try... (but I dont think thats it, because there is nothing to see even with helios NOT running). No... I have postet a wrong softth-config by mistake. It was just C&P from the editor; unfortunately there was an second config open, locatetd at C:/tmp/config.SoftTHconfig and I have choosen the wrong one. I will correct this in the last post ASAP.
  19. I'm using a mix of my own files and some included in the "Loz SM V2.1" profile for helios. PS: But I'm exporting them to the RIGHT (!) monitor, not to the left one. And yes, they work in windowed mode like a charm. But in 3840x1080.
  20. System specs: - Win-7, 8GM RAM - GTX-560ti, driver: 320.18 Ingame-Config: Monitor-Setup (Helios.lua): Softth.config (the right one this time): I will add screenshots in the next days.
  21. I will do this, but not today. PS: At least I can post some system specs in the next posting "destop screen magnification"? Well, I'm working in the IT (some kind of linux/db admin and developer) but I've never heard of this. But obviously there is always something new to learn. ;) But: Im using Win-7 so there is no "destop screen magnification". I can change the dpi, but this is already at 100%. Now I will give antialiasing=2 a try... PS: won't work. with force res=0, again no AA; with force res=1 the launcher wont work. Regarding the launcher I have to be more precise I think: 1. the launcher is centered over both screens. 2. the menu items at the right side are highlighted, when the mousepointer moves over them. 3. a single mouse click is consistently NOT detected. 4. several mouseclicks in a short interval ARE detected. It's a bit late today, so we will have to delay this (exspecially the screenshots) a few days.
  22. Ah! This is an useful finding. :) I will try it asap. PS: Done. 3920 was a type in the posting. All configs have 3940x1080, so they are equal. :( I will look into the other advices...
  23. This won't work also. If I set force resolution to 1, the launcher extends over both screens but don't accept any mouse clicks. I couldn't start a mission this way and I will have to kill the process with the task manager. Again, softth won't work. Well, perhaps the path for d3d9.dll is incorrect? I have copied it into "DCS World/bin".
  24. Well, nobody will build a system with less than 8GB nowadays. So it gets down to the question, if 12GB or 16GB boost the performance of the system. For DCS... maybe (I'm using a SSD-drive for DCS and I don't get any stutter because of I/O). For most other games applications this is rarely the case - at the moment. But yes, if someone could afford 16GB, he should spend the extra $70. I would do it in any case - even without any performance benefits today. RAM is cheap so just buy it. But if I had to choose between 16GB and an i5 or 8GB and an i7, I would go for the i7. If the system is well build it's very easy to upgrade to 16GB later. A cpu change is a whole other story. It's also way easier to upgrade a graphics card than a cpu, so some compromises for the graphics card are ok too, if you can't spend $800 for the best graphics card alone. Just a few months later the now top notch grafics cards are only half of the price of today... Unfortunetely after 18 to 24 months some components of the system get obsolete... so we have to upgrade anyway some day. For me it's a new PC every 24 to 36 months. Just the case get's recycled and some hardisks are reused...
  25. Well, I don't agree with you, because the answer isn't that simple. If you know for sure, you will never upgrade the cpu and your budget is limited so that the additional $100 for the i7 is out of question without to compromise other things, then: yes, go for the i5. But things change if you plan to upgrade at later time. Upgrading a CPU (and doing it right) consumes some time. A skilled person could do this in 20, 30 minutes - depending on case and motherboard. I have done this a few times and for me it took about an hour. And most often you need a new cooling-unit. So let's do a calculation: One hour work time: $40 (my spare time is costly ;)) Cooling-Unit: $30-$50 (we won't buy cheap, if we build such a system ;)) One half hour for buying (driving to shop and back): $20 sum: $90-$120 without cooling unit: $60 Not included the price of the new cpu or the cost for a good cooling compound (you could use the mediocre one delivered with the cpu or buy a better one at extra costs). The (minimal) risk for breaking the cpu isn't included also. A complete new system costs about $1000, so $100 is about 10%. So the performance boost justifies the extra costs. It's ridicolous to compare the price of the cpu alone (that's teh way some people do it), because you couldn't do or play anything on a cpu without other hardware. ;) The performance-price relation only makes sense for a complete system. Conclusion: - if you can afford the extra $100 and just not sure if you get a benefit from it, buy an i7 - if you can't afford the extra $100 go for a cheaper CPU but don't complain afterwards - if you can afford the extra $100 and are absolutely sure you don't need the extra power - well it's up to you, to waste money. ;) I would choose the first of the three cases most of the time. BTW: I have very bad experiences with point 3 of the list. Done it sometimes to save money with big regrets a few months later.
