Gauging distance to ATC waypoint for landing?
mxmadman replied to bunraku's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
If you want a steer point quickly that is less accurate than the method above you can do so quickly using your TAD. If he tells you to head bearing 90 for 35 or something, zoom your TAD out to show 40 miles and put a mark point down due east of yourself about 3 quarters of the way between the first second rings on the TAD. It's not super accurate but will help you from going off course and can be done in just a few seconds. -
Check to make sure your rudder pedals are fully centered when not in use. Might turn out it isn't your stick at all. Just a guess though, good luck.

Zoom View axis unable to assign
mxmadman replied to mxmadman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I could only find one in the axis assignment section? Where is the second one and does it serve the same purpose? Seems odd they would duplicate it and make only one work. -
Hello everyone! Hope it's okay to post this question here, couldn't find a more suitable section. Currently I'm unable to assign anything to my zoom view axis in the 1.5 beta. The problem doesn't seem to be with my TM Warthog since it's working fine with everything. The issue is that I can't highlight the boxes necessary for the Zoom View axis only. The other axis assignments work flawlessly. Everything to do with zoom view is unclickable or greyed out, including the assign axis button and the add button. I have a hunch this may have been caused by using VR on a different instal a long time ago. I've disabled the HMD option in misc settings but that didn't do the trick. Any help is much appreciated!

Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas (NTTR/A-10C/SP)
mxmadman replied to mxmadman's topic in User Created Missions General
@Soupdragon - Glad you liked what you've seen so far! I don't really think it is worth the voice work that it would take, but now that I have my feet wet and I feel like I could make some worthwhile missions I'll try it next time. According to what I've seen so far it doesn't seem too difficult, and I did put sound files in the mission specifically to test that for future use. @Mike77 - That is exactly what this mission is for! Currently I cannot do any quick missions or instant actions in DCSW 2.0 (crashes to desktop), so I needed to put together a quick flight plan right after I installed it. I figured other people might be in the same boat, so I made this mission. I also live a few hundred miles south of Vegas, so what I think of as common knowledge may not be common to folks like Soup in Wales. Thanks again guys. Hopefully when I have the time I'll put together something more complex and involving combat. -
I already created a thread specifically for my mission, so I'll direct you there: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=161707 It's called Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas, and it is a non-combat single-player A-10C mission. Basically, it is an extremely unrealistic guided tour of Las Vegas and the surrounding area. Hope you enjoy it.

looking for a good sightseeing mission for Nevada
mxmadman replied to the_soupdragon's topic in User Created Missions General
I made a mission for you pretty much entirely because of this thread. Check it out over here if you want to give it a go: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=161707 It's called "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas". Hope you enjoy it! -
Note: This mission contains NO COMBAT! Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas is a guided tour of Las Vegas and the surrounding area. You'll take off from Creech AFB and visit some of the most popular land marks in and around the city before landing at McCarran International. There are trivia facts that will be displayed as you pass near the landmarks, but aside from that the sole purpose of the mission is to see the sights and get familiar with the area we're all sure to be spending many hours exploring. This mission is not supposed to be realistic in any way. You are encouraged to fly as close to Las Vegas Boulevard as you can, and flying under the bridge before passing over the Hoover Dam is advised as well. :pilotfly: This is my first mission, so any and all constructive feedback is welcome. Enjoy the flight! Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas.miz

I am stumped trying to figure out how to get DCS BIOS installed correctly. I have gone through the installation steps multiple times and I'm fairly certain I've done it correctly each time (just copy/pasting into the Saved Games/DCS/Scripts (or something similar - I'm reciting from memory right now). I'm positive that I did not duplicate the Scripts folder (.../Scripts/Scripts/DCSBIOS). *EDIT* - I have only copied and pasted the file into the Scripts folder and edited the Export.lua with the one line of code, also via copy/paste in Notepad++. I am only reasonably confident I have done these two steps correctly, but if there is anything else I have forgotten to do aside from those two I am not aware. When I run the Chrome extension to get live updates it doesn't seem to be connected to DCS at all. It does not know any values, and it cannot change any values. I'm trying to get DCS BIOS running to support the Flight Panels mod to run a Saitek switch panel. I've verified that the Flight Panels mod is working by assigning the switches to basic keyboard commands and using them in-game. The problem seems to be with DCS BIOS not working in order to use all of its wonderful features in conjunction with Flight Panels. I'm sorry I don't have more information. I haven't been presented with any actual errors to post. I am running DCS through Steam, and I'm on Windows 8. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks! UPDATE! I seem to have it working by getting rid of the old Export.lua and using the one that was provided with DCS BIOS. I don't know why it took me 3 hours to try that, and I'm not sure it wasn't working by editing in the line of code with Notepad++ because I'm pretty bad at this sort of thing. At any rate, I think this should only render one or two other unrelated things inoperable, and that's acceptable for now at least. Thanks again!

A-10C CA Campaign Offensive CAS mission...ordering units to move
mxmadman replied to Viper482's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I believe you're referring to the very first mission of the default campaign (the one that has nothing to do with a bridge - there are two "first" missions) Don't take this the wrong way, but is it possible you have been killing the friendly tanks instead of the enemy? Also, you do not have to take out 100% of the enemies before you tell them to move - these guys will do a lot of the killing for you if I remember right, but you need to thin the crowd before you throw them in there. Regarding your last question, I think you can still complete that mission without actually landing, but this is not a rule that applies to all missions. Sorry I don't have a concrete answer, but you've already stated you know how to do it (just a matter of f10 comm menu and telling them to move), so I don't think it's necessarily something you've done wrong. -
Hey folks, just feeling a bit bored today, and thought I might offer some assistance to beginners in 1 on 1 training so that you can ask questions in a more relaxed environment than the forums here. I'm definitely not claiming to be an amazing pilot, but I can help guys with all of the basics. As examples, things like inputting coordinates into the CDU as waypoints (for use with JTAC). choosing and setting up your ordinance (such as HOF and RPM on CBU's based on your target), inputting wind into the CDU, etc. No skill level is too low, but please fly the training missions first (at least the one related to your issue) because they're actually very good. Basically, if you're relatively new or inexperience and are frustrated with "X" not working right, or you just don't know what you're doing wrong, let me know by posting in this thread or sending me a PM and we'll get in our birds and figure it out. :pilotfly: You'll need Skype (or your own teamspeak server) so we can communicate. Skype is free - my handle on there is joobacca2 Edit: Haven't had a single response. It appears I underestimated how effective the recent sale for A-10C would be, or folks just don't require the help. At any rate, though, the offer stands if someone needs it.

I've experienced this, as well as the very confused JTAC folks who tell me they have an assignment, only to tell me to ABORT ABORT ABORT! When they explain that they have a new assignment, that one is automatically ABORT ABORT ABORTed. This cycles continues indefinitely whether or not I respond, even when I tell them I'm bailing out. Something along the lines of, "ok, safe travels...ABORT ABORT ABORT!"

Hey sorry for slight hijack, but how do you scroll down in that list? I believe page 1 is the closest 4-5, but is there a way to see the 5-10th closest? Thanks.

Thanks and you too. Multiplayer is great! I found the 76th open recruitment server and hooked up with one of their guys, TrueAlph, and a guy named Whadupman in teamspeak. The two of them basically gave me a two hour free lesson which was invaluable, especially regarding countermeasures. I no longer tuck tail whenever I see a SAM, and my SA improved greatly in those two hours. Looking forward to settling down and finding my group. The community isn't making things easy on me since anyone I've run in to is very nice and willing to help, so its harder to narrow it down. This, by the way, is not normal for any gaming communities, including other sims. Now that I'm fairly competent the game becomes more fun each time I log in. To all the newbies out there, I recommend learning countermeasures IMMEDIATELY and sticking that thing on Semi mode. This has to be one of the most crucial things I've learned so far and its not as complex as I originally though. Thanks again to all the folks who've helped me, it has not gone unappreciated.

I've tried finding this server, 76th Open Recruitment each time I log on to play (in these few days) and I've not found it. Is this not a dedicated server, or am I doing something wrong? As far as I can tell there are no filters available. I'm certainly available to joining a squad also, but trying to find one that matches up with a server I see available, and actually flying with folks first. Only been a few days so I'm not in too much of a hurry, but if anyone out there reading this and is in a North American timezone oriented squadron and is interested in picking up a newbie, please let me know. Aside from that I will surely be going through the wiki and trying to find one as well, but id much prefer joining one by actually meeting someone first - call me old fashioned. ;) Thanks again.

Its been great! Multiplayer is already more fun for me than singleplayer. I've been in teamspeaks, it seems basically recessary. Thanks for your help guys! One thing I want to work on is teamwork. So far I've just been becoming familiarized, and I've learned how to join net groups and share SPI's, but I want to find a place to fly in formation and attack specific targets. A more strctured environment if you will. Any further suggestions specific to that would be great. Thanks again.

Hello all! This is my first post, so the obligatory thanks to all the great posters and Youtubers out there who've helped me make the learning process of this complex sim very enjoyable. Fish is the only name that comes to mind (most likely because it is one syllable), but there plenty of others. I'm planning to jump into multiplayer tonight after work and this weekend, and am looking for pointers to help me with any pitfalls that folks out there on 'the internets' have already run into. First, I'm confused on how MP actually works. Do I need to join a server before a mission starts in order to be a part? Are there specific server types where I can simply jump in an ongoing mission and serve some sort of purpose? Do I need to be a part of a wing in order to get the full suite of features available, or does the solo pilot get the same enjoyment? I imagine the answer is: join a squad, so in that vein, are there any newb oriented squads out there that focus more on training then an 'average' squad? If so, if you could point me in that direction it would be appreciated. I've had a look at the different lists in the forums here, but it seems most are not actually focuses on the a-10c, and are from years ago. Also, any general tips would be great on things that I may not have learned in SP. I'm fairly competent in start-up, flight, and munitions. Thanks in advanvance for any tips thatsmooth the transition for me. See you all in the skies! P.s. posting from my phone I sorry for typos and bad grammar.
